    In the interest of fairness and balance, here are all the things I LOVE about the Pixel 8 Pro. Enjoy ✌🏻

    Great video. My irritations with the Pixel 8 pro:
    - Switching between lenses is so jittery (how are they that bad at software - they're Google?!)
    - While stills can be great, there is a specific issue with portrait mode, where it massively overexposes light sources it looks like there's a huge streak through the photo
    - Snapping photos isn't 'clean'. You take a shot, and about 5 seconds later it's ready to view. Maybe that's because it's doing 'best take' or AI stuff to identify the best shot, but makes for an irritating UX
    Glad content creators are pointing this out. All my gripes are with the camera.

      Hi, thanks and all great points! I don't get on with the portrait mode too, I find the blurring around the subject always looks a bit off 🤔 It has the potential to be a great phone, but some of the features are still a bit rough around the edges so long after release.

      Yep all recorded on the Pixel... Apart from the shots of the Pixel itself, I had to dig out my P20 Pro to record those. That did quite well too considering it's 6 years old now!

    I also have the pixel 8 Pro but all those features you said that you don't have. I have I'm here in the States. The summarize feature is definitely a great feature to have. I use it often. I also picked up the Samsung S24 Plus. When it dropped in January and I've made it my daily driver and my pixel 8 Pro my side piece. You should try the Samsung S24 plus or the ultra. Reason why I went with the plus is I got it for such a good deal I couldn't pass it up or I would have went with the ultra. Take my next pickup will be the Samsung z fold 6 or possibly the pixel fold 2. Which everyone has a better battery life I'll go with. Thanks for the video. I really enjoy your content, you got a new sub. The AI features are pretty good on the Samsung

      Hi, thanks for watching! I'll deffo be checking out Samsung next time I'm due an upgrade. I've had them before and they've always been spot on in terms of features and performance 👌🏻I've just upgraded my pixel 8 pro to the latest beta version of Android, and I now have HDMI out and the experience generally feels a bit smoother too! Complaining about an HDMI port not being in a phone is nitpicky

    • @NerdZap
      @NerdZap  2 месяца назад +1

      Hi, thanks for watching. I don't want an HDMI port specifically, I want to use the USB C port to be able to connect to a TV or monitor. Either via HDMI (adaptor) or straight into a USB C display. For me, it's not really nitpickiy as it's something I find useful and I've been able to do on every phone beforehand.
      These kind of videos are always going to divide opinion as they're based on personal use cases and experiences. Things that don't affect you always seem trivial.
      Since recording this I've upgraded to the latest beta version of Android, which has enabled display output on the Pixel 8 Pro. But I believe that this won't be in the main build for another month or 2. So my point is, if the phone has hardware to do it, why does Google make us wait almost a year before enabling it? Just a personal frustration of mine!

    HDMI out is coming next month for the Pixel 8s, BUT video out (which is a desired feature for me) has been possible on all Pixel's before that through a Displaylink adapter. It requires an Internet connection (mobile or wi fi) which stinks, but it is possible.
    Amazon is where I buy all my accessories. They are much cheaper, and you can find almost whatever you'd imagine.
    Android video editing while not native is pretty functional through a variety of applications.

    I get wherever you’re coming from. I had a similar rant about soo many little things that i liked/ i got habitual to when i switched from my old xiaomi to iPhone 13. It is about the small things that we don’t expect would bother us so much when switching phones. For about 1.5 years i was so annoyed on apple for all the little things that my 4 year old android could do despites being that old. Things like connecting seamlessly with my windows laptop, being able to micro manage in the file system of my phone, using my phone as a portable storage device since it was so easy to move files around and seamless too, certain apps that aren’t available on ios, inbuilt app locking, initially face id annoyed me as well, etc. i can go on and on about these things but lately I realise these are just some things that we have to deal with. Everything comes with it’s pros and cons. It’s almost impossible to have something that is custom built for one individuals wants. We need to adapt or move on. iPhone 13 was surely an upgrade for me in terms of camera quality, performance, better data security and it came at the cost of those things that i miss about my old phone. The funny thing is, i was also thinking at some point of making a similar video on my iphone😂

    • @NerdZap
      @NerdZap  3 месяца назад

      Absolutely spot on, it's about the small things that we don't consider when making the switch, and as you say there will always be something that's not perfect. I got drawn in by all the shiny AI features and specs, without considering the things I would miss. As yes, no doubt if I switched back to Apple, I'd have a whole new list of things to complain about 🤣

    Commenting at least to help you in some way and in the same time suggest some different perspectives eventually.
    1. Being not loyal to a brand is much needed virtue - many more people should refrain from being loyal to a brand these days just because it became quite evident the companies care for your loyalty only to move ahead with their own agendas (that's not only the profit, unfortunately). The companies know this of course, so what they do to counter the increased lack of loyalty is to try to lock you in a "ecosystem" - more or less successfully, but that's a powerful game in fact.
    2. Most of your points/issues/challenges are valid of course, but are quite "niche" and will not be considered seriously by most people. It is important to realize that someones "blacks and whites" are reversed in others view on the things.
    I'll share some of my own "niche" challenges.
    3. I'm with Apple's band the last 10 years, but in fact started before that with Android. One can imagine back than how atrocious the Android was and eventually I jumped to Apple. This said, I don't want to stay with them anymore, the reasons being technical and also non-technical. On the tech side the primary reason for me is the "face unlock" - in no way I accept this as the only offered biometric protection. Now imagine me actually stuck with iphones with fingerprint sensors only and that's no longer sustainable as Apple keeps these devices intentionally in the dust. For some people (like myself) the allure of Apple's smooth experiences, despite how powerful it is, just broke because of those tech decisions for their direction. Again - this is one of those either Black or White things people either love or hate. Btw that huge notch on the screen will be very hard to avoid due to their tech direction, as seen for several generations already. This will lead eventually to the way Google does it, with the inherent (un)reliability, but at least Google is not imposing it as the only way.
    4. Looking at the Android bandwagon all these years, it seems surpassing Apple in most directions, except the unpredictable experience one will get from the mountain of devices being offered. No matter flagship or not, in fact. But I guess that'll be the thrill to jump in that jungle I guess.

    • @NerdZap
      @NerdZap  3 месяца назад +1

      Hiya, and thanks for watching ✌🏻 I agree with your point around brand/OS loyalty. 10 years ago I was Android through and through and wouldn't even consider an iPhone, but then I realised that I don't owe anything, and switching was a great way to keep things fresh! Especially in a time where every phone release is only a slight alteration of the last.
      They are relatively niche points I'm making, and these kind of videos are always going to divide opinion. At the end of the day the Pixel is a good phone, so it would be hard to find anything about it that was totally unacceptable to everyone. These are just my personal experiences and it's good to rant sometimes about these things 🤣

    I have to use an iPhone for work and iOS just sucks as a user experience. It's just not intuitive to me. The hardware may be good, although the phones always seem top heavy and unbalanced, but the usability is so archaic.

    • @NerdZap
      @NerdZap  Месяц назад

      I've heard a lot of people say that about the iPhone (that it's not intuitive) and I had the exact same experience when I first switched from Android. At the end of the day it's what you're used to, how you use it, and personal preference. IMO there are pros and cons from both sides, but you just have to go with what works for you. @NerdZap  3 месяца назад

      It really depends how embedded you are into the apple eco system, and if there is anything you'd miss by switching. My preference would have been a smaller phone such as the pixel 8, but that didn't have the telephoto lens so I went for the 8 Pro.

    Mate, every other major Android browser apart from Chrome has an option to move the address bar to the bottom of the screen? Both Brave and Firefox have built in options in the settings, you don't even need to edit flags. Oh, and the swipe left/right on the tab icon on Brave or swipe on the address bar on Firefox, does the exact same thing! Changes tabs...

    Regarding the last point. The fault was with Apple that Google couldn't bring tracking network to Android. They wanted to also include detecting unauthorised air tags of Apple travelling with an android user. While Google did its part of job in less than two weeks for Apple devices to detect Android trackers, Apple took its own sweet time of more than a year to simply add safety support like this.
    Goes on to show how much Apple wants to build a monopoly, even at the expense of user safety.

    • @NerdZap
      @NerdZap  3 месяца назад

      Hi, thanks for watching ✌🏻 Yea that does sound like typical Apple behaviour to be fair! The point is that Apple have a really good network for Airtags and Android don't have an equivalent up to the same standard (yet). I'm not even expecting my Airtags to work with android (though that would be cool), I just wish Google/Android had their own tracking network that was on par, or even close to that standard. I have read that the new Google tracking system can track the Pixel 8 even when it's turned off... Sounds like magic to me 🤣
