Debussy - Clair de Lune | Played on an Out of Tune Piano

  • Since Covid came along, I've had ample time to practice piano again. This is my three-month completion video of Clair de Lune. I made a few mistakes and I am still slow in a couple areas, but I still hope you enjoyed this playthrough DC al Fine.
    As cliche as it may sound, Clair de Lune has always been one of my favorite songs. I had thought about learning it in the past, but I was scared away after watching @Rousseau's playthrough. It was so fast, complicated, and looked well beyond my skill level. When I started learning my goal was to finish the first section. I took it one note at a time and was slowly able to piece it together. In a couple days I finished the first section and decided to keep going. The learning process became addictive. Every morning when I woke up I would practice for an hour or two, typically the exact same chord progression over and over again until my hand got tired or I got too frustrated. This piece is important to me because it showed me that if I set my mind to something new, I can learn it. I have had no previous training or piano lessons prior. I can't read music and I most certainly didn't know what an arpeggio was before this. I hope you enjoyed this piece. Let me know what I should learn next. Maybe I will make another cover, hopefully with a piano that's actually in tune.

    I love untuned piano music. It just makes it sound… nostalgic? Just. Familiar in a way. Like those photos with nobody in them of playgrounds or childrens play areas. Familiar. But like something is missing, like how that memory will never be the same from when you first had it. Like when you laugh a lot about a joke but when you hear it again you dont laugh. Like the humor is missing,

Oh, superliminal is the thing you describe, its like a bride between something... like something is missing, its a really popular way of thinking abotu photography, its often referred in the backrooms, Where something feels just off but yet famillar. Search it up its really cool

    I would kill for a genre of piano like this… I don’t know what it might be called or if anyone would fully embrace it, yet, hearing the keys and strings holding near chaos while staying in melody has such a movement on me and in everything and everyone here.. it’s a perfect harmony of false harmonization. Thank you, for this piece of magic and wonder.

      Yeah, I love it. It gives me a weird feeling of devastation and dread, while still sounding hopeful. Like something is falling apart, but still able to be put back together, if barely.
      It's a weird feeling, but I love it. Music played on an out of tune piano completely changes the feeling and emotion, and I think the piano is the only instrument that can even pull it off. On most instruments, being out of tune means the all (or most) of the instrument is out of tune by the same amount, while on the piano every single note can be differently out of tune.

      I'm under the impression that when the piano is untuned, the strings have more room to vibrate freely/over an extended period of time, which enhances the level of sympathetic resonances you get when playing with the sustain pedal. That, and (amateur way of describing things incoming) since they are not tuned in unison anymore, each of them are vibrating with their own unique personality (compare it to a choral where everyone have "the same kind of voice" vs a choral with mixed voices).

    I was somewhere. I think it was glacier national park at a campground. There was like a food court but very rustic and there was a pool and arcade section as well as pool tables. It was a fairly quiet evening and their was a family mumbling near the low drone of the pinball.
    There was a piano sitting in the corner and I went to check if it had worked. It was the most echloey untuned piano I'd ever heard. Q fewinutes later my brother was talking and my brain drifted to this. I couldn't play it and i was looking at musecore but my phone was actually recording.
    That recording is somewhere on the internet and I often go back to it because it reminds me of one of those moments that just happen. You can't force it, you don't know when it's happening, and there's no pomp and circumstance.
    The out of tune piano isn't special because it's ethereal or sounds of an older time or place, it's special because of the literalness. It's real, it's not perfect, it's not preordained, it's not stylistic, it's the realness that encapsulates what living day by day is like.

    I both hate and love this because the piano in my cousin’s old house sounded just like this, very out of tune and old. I had always wanted to learn how to play it but only got to watch as my uncle played some small parts of songs, and I was really mesmerized by it. I miss that house, I miss that piano and I miss my uncle, but I will always love an untuned piano cover.

    I listened to this song a year ago back in may and it helped me feel better because my grandma was in the hospital after suffering a stroke and I wasnt able to see her in person because i was a year too young to enter the hospital room because they dont want kids making too much noise or other disturbances so you had to be 12+ to enter and i was 11 at the time so this helped me calm down so thank you :)
    I came back to listen to this because of today, July 5th, it had been an entire year since her death. She had survived the stroke and was able to go back home but wasnt expected to survive by the end of the year. It was painful for her because she had to stay in a bed all the time and she had bed sores but she kept on fighting for 2 more months so she could see all of her family for the last time before deciding to take her final leave. My mom was in the room with my grandma, her own mother, when she died that morning and some of my other family members were there (my grandpa, my aunt, and one of my uncles.) It was a sad thing to hear when my dad told us the news but at least my grandma wasnt in pain anymore. I want to give my mom a hug today but she has covid 19 so I can't. :(

    You step forth in front of the cathedral. It seems so utterly massive it takes your mind ages to even process it, because after all, this is where your mission led you to. Although it's not the end, it's definitely a major point in it. The sheer scenery around the place is although mundane at first glance, breathtaking on a second. After your moment of walking around the front entrance, you hop your way over some seemingly random pedestals and attempt to unlock the front door, only for it to be locked. You sigh in disbelief before turning around, connecting the dots in your head the moment you do. Maybe these pedestals mean something! Must an object be placed on them? One of your relics perhaps? I mean, you do have a skull with you, it's even the same color as the pedestal! Shortly after this connection, you place the skull on the left most pedestal, only for nothing to happen. maybe there's two more? You go out in search for these two skulls, hopping right back into the building you came out of.
    You scour every room, every ceiling, every floor, and every wall. Every pot, every rug, window, and every chandelier. You do manage to find one skull, but not the other. You go back to place it on the middle pedestal before going back into the building, only to find... something. No, someone, the second you open the door. They darted by so fast they looked like a big red and a small blue blight on your eyes. Was the small blue blight the third skull? Maybe, just maybe. You also dart in that direction, determined to get to the bottom of this sudden mystery. Reaching the end of the corridor, you do manage to find the skull, although not where you expected. Oh well, at least you have all of the skulls you wanted!
    Putting the third one on the last pedestal, the front door suddenly swings open, as if inviting you in. You've known automatic doors, but not wooden doors that swing open once skulls are collected. Well, it doesn't matter at this point, because you're already inside. You take a breath in, and then a breath out. The scenery is even more wonderful. Stained glass windows lining the walls, plants surrounding you, columns only adding to the rich atmosphere, it's all here. You sit down on the floor, inspecting your weapons as this song plays in the background. You get up, feeling refreshed wonderful after taking a well deserved break. But as you step forward, the complete unexpected happens...
    The stained glass window on the back wall shatters, as a tall red figure slams on the ground with such force you're sent a ways up in the air before slamming down yourself. Is this... you? No, this can't be right. How can there be you, if you're the only you there is? Your rampant thinking is suddenly cut off by 'you', who bows down with their arms to their sides as if they're ending a performance. You take this time to look around once more, only to realize nothing has changed. Nothing was affected by what had just happened, as if this was all glued to the ground. You look back at the figure, who now brands your pistol? Wait, YOUR pistol? But you have your pistol right here! How can they be an EXACT copy of you?! WHEN WAS THIS TECHNOLOGY INVENTE- oh, they're shooting at you now.
    Bullets hit your arms as you immediately fire back, nailing some body shots and even a head shot as you dart around the room just like they do. Such a dance has never been seen by your kind before, but it will not be the last it will appear. You toss a coin in the air, prepared to preform your signature move, until they decide to take it one step further, and throw their coin against yours, knocking them both out of the air. Who does this guy think they are, denying you your own skills with their own carbon copy versions? Enough is enough. You toss three coins in the air simultaneously, and fire at them before they could be knocked down. You even gave them some karma by having your bullet ricochet off of his own coin and nail them right in the head. This euphoric rush overtakes you as you move faster than you have ever done before. You swap to weapons over and over again, and they do the same. You charge your railgun, and they do the same not even moments later. You dodge, they dodge. You take cover, they take cover. This truly IS a copy of you. No matter though, you have the advantage. You fire and fire and fire in an attempt to overwhelm them, and it mostly works, although you take some hits yourself. You keep this up more and more, unloading bullet after bullet, blast after blast, nail after nail, saw after saw. Until...
    You see them almost collapse in the middle, barely keeping themself together as you stare them down, You don't want to execute them, you need answers. But after that gruesome fight, you can't even open your mouth thinking about everything that had just happened. You sit back down on the ground again, your pistol and coins ready just in case they try anything. And to your surprise, they don't. They jump into the air, shattering yet another priceless window, this time being the one on the ceiling. You see something fly off as they do so, though. A stick? A red stick? No, something much more gruesome. Their arm. Somehow, you dealt so much damage to their body, one shattered window was enough to send their left arm flying off their body. You pick it up, before it suddenly attaches to you, replacing your now former left arm. Surprisingly, this doesn't hurt at all, but you will have to get used to your new arm.
    The back door of the cathedral opens, leading to yet another passage downward. Even in times like these, you can never truly catch a break, can you? Regardless, you walk forward before turning around out of curiosity. You look back at the scenery again, pondering why this had to be such a hellish battle in the first place. But then, you look up, and notice something quite peculiar.
    *Has that window always been cracked?*

    //danganronpa v3 chapter 1 spoilers.
    *And so it starts. A killing game, huh?
    *You believe in them, don't you?
    *You think you'll get out of it with them.
    *Your thoughts begin to clutter with "What if"s. All you can think of is...
    *Maybe piano will help...
    *a body has been discovered.*
    * *You choose to investigate- You'll get out soon, you keep telling yourself.*
    * *The trial begins.....*
    * *The trial ends.*
    * *And so do you, with the the song you always held comfort to yourself being your death. The people you loved the most watching your struggles as you try to break free. You failed, not only that but the song that's only to be played in white keys is played in black. At least it's over, as you take your final breathe, and the game continues.*
