One of the most comprehensive, yet clear explanations of how the HX family (I have a Helix floor) can be used as an audio interfaces. Thanks for making this video.
Just got one. Now I have a full blown Helix floor unit, HX Stomp, and Helix native lmao. Being able to just throw the stomp in a backpack with a laptop and record di's while monitoring a nice full patch is amazing. The floor unit is now reserved for at home and gigs and I use Native to mess with everything after it's been recorded. What a time to be alive.
dude i love that you focus alot on the budget of players and show such useful shit all the time man, you really put out awesome content and i been able to implement alot of the things youve shared man, especially with tech aspect of guitar recording and playing. thanks for the hard work brotha!
I think you just solved my issue with my LT which other RUclips channels were lacking in explaining and go over. I will try it later when I'm home. Thank you so much Trey!!!
This video came in extremely handy, thank you Trey!
Great video, Trey! Thanks for making it happen, cheers!
This is the most Informative video i have found on this little guy. Thanks T.
Wow, I didn't know this was possible. Amazed by the possibility! Thanks for sharing.
Great little piece of gear and a really, really great little tutorial!!!
Pro tip to resolve something that occurred during the reamp - a DI track that was recorded with an input gate will sound awful if put back through a patch also with a gate active. (This occurred for me through helix native as well)
This was super useful, thank you!
Excellent post! Thanks for a great demo and subscribed! :)
Thanks so much for this tip. My interest is not in recording but in performance. So, I'm now applying this HX Stomp USB DI connection to a Gig Performer Eventide H9 plugin effects chain (on a Lenovo W530 laptop) to process my electric violin audio. Works great.
Hold the phone. I can monitor my wet channel while recording it without latency while simultaneously recording a DI on a separate track!? Am I hearing that all correctly!?
Great demo on how to work with the HX Stomp!
Well done. I have the Helix floor unit, have no plans to record or use DAW but I still found this interesting and understandable. Thanks bud.
Thanks buddy! My first day with one and this is really useful
Thank you so much for this video! I was not sure what to get, the PodGo or the Stomp. I have a pretty crappy AudioInterface, so the one in the Stomp would come in pretty handy. Keep up the excellent work and stay healthy \o/
THANK YOU! I've been trying to figure out, without reading the manual, now to get a direct feed from the Stomp into the computer without any modelling or effects, just a straight unprocessed signal. Turns out the trick was to use inputs 5 and 6. Doh!! All that time I wasted and all I had to do was watch your channel!
Great job detailing this killer feature on the Swiss Army knife of guitar pedals 👍
Great video! It answered all my questions! I’m gonna get one of these! 🤟🏻😝
thanks for the great information
Thanks for this!
So great! Thanks for this :D
Excellent tutorial, thank you
So helpful. Thanks!
Thanks for the gain stage tips
It's possible to record 4 channels simultaneously with the stomp - the 3rd and 4th channels can be recorded from the Return / Aux In L + R channels. These will be unprocessed and I think work best at line level, but it's still handy if you have an outboard pre-amp or mixer to run in-between the audio sources + Stomp Return / Aux in. Quite handy, in a pinch.
(Edit - this is touched on in the video, but just to make this completely clear).
Y'all can catch me buying an HX stomp
Awsome! This bedroom reamping function is what I missed in the mooer units
I guess they are now available in firmware update?
@@riffheart No idea. I actually never ended up buying any of the modellers I was checking out and now I'm just using neural plugins
Thank you!!
Thanks for awesome video man - I just bought the stomp! :)
By the way, are your presets available somewhere?
Awesome! This was a major PITA with Logic and a Focusrite Clarett because you have to change the Input and Output Device to the Stomp or Clarett as needed, but it works!
What is needed to change when using a focusrite Claret?
super thanks for this video.
Tx. I setup my new Tonex One to run via my HX Stomp as an audio interface. NOW i can finally edit the presets!!!
Really good tutorial...thanks
Holy crap this is amazing. The price is also great
Nice reference to History Of The World by Mel Brooks! Great video.
Very cool tutorial man!
Is it possible to use this technique to reamp using the 4 cables method?
Thanx :)
cool!!! thanks for sharing 👍!
It would be really cool if you could do a video on how you set up the Cymatic to run the hx stomps.
Thank you for your videos! They’ve really helped me record with my hx stomp as an audio interface. However, I’m still unable to adjust the input gain when I’m trying to take levels before recording since the hx stomp does not have a knob for adjusting the input gain. I found that I can reduce the input gain by lowering the volume on my guitar but can’t raise it once my Guitar’s volume is at 10. I made
sure that the amp in the chain’s channel volume is at 10 as well but I still can’t get the input past -15db on my daw (logic) when I would like for it to be closer to -12 or -6db to get a nice, healthy signal. The volume knob on the hx stomp acts as a monitor and only affects the volume at which I’m hearing it in my headphones and not the signal itself. I thought about maybe adding a gain plugin while recording in the track’s channel strip but I don’t know if that would distort the signal or do something else to the take’s audio quality. Is there anyway to adjust the input gain? Thanks and have a nice day!
Good tutorial dude.
Any chance of a metal demo of the HX Stomp? Also, that preset you used sounded freaking massive! Is there anywhere I can get your presents? :)
Great info
So glad I came across this! I love my HX Stomp already, but I didn't know of the interface capabilities. I mean, I knew it could be an interface, I just didn't know it could do DI, as well as the processed sound. Thanks for putting this together!
Do you sell presets for the hx stomps? I saw that you have an IR pack for sale. I was curious if there was an IR and preset package available? I’m only interested in Metal patches.
thanks a lot !
Yeah I am going to have to get this... right now I have an old audio interface that doesn't really cut it... I am getting back into guitar after playing around with some synths, but I kinda cut back and sold a lot of my stuff. Just the the audio interface io's with all of those nice cab and effects... pretty fucking useful.
Great Idea! I'm in the market for a guitar USB interface and had been thinking along these lines. Are there latency specs reported by any DAWs?
Great video
Thanks for the video, really helpful. Quick question (or anyone seeing this), when you use headphone did the tone get very harsh and thin? When I use hx stomp only for headphone, the tone is terrible. Or when hx stomp is working as a interface, the sound is going through DAW and so it is more authentic?
watched the video and loved the simplicity of it. Right away I was able to record with Logic Pro X the wet signal and a dry signal simultaneously. What I cannot get to work is the re-amping part. I set my HX Stomp input on USB 5/6 and my track to record on input 1 and output on stereo output. But my reamp track isn't showing any signal though I can hear it through the stomp in it's dry unaffected sound. What am I missing? Any help would be awesome. My global settings on the Logic Pro is set to both input and output with the Helix for audio.
So how can I do software monitoring only, or turn down the direct monitoring volume (mix knob)?
i would like to use the hx stomp as an audio interface to a daw (cakewalk, reaper) for internet jams (ninjam, jamulus). if i connect studio monitors to the hx stomp, will i hear the other players or do i need another audio interface for the monitors?
I was going to buy a mustang micro, but now I’m thinking hx stomp and some headphones Very cool!
BTW what are the right headphones for this unit impedance wise? I assume studio monitor headset is better than consumer headphones for this use?
Thanks for any advice!
Awesome video. I understand so much more than I did before. All set recording dry signal but having trouble reamping. DAW (studio one) set to output 5, HX stomp set to USB 5/6 for input on preset yet no signal coming back to DAW for reamping. Any ideas on what to check. Thanks
Great up to, how do i output the signal after recording my 2 tracks in studio one as i cannot see any out out tabs to send it back with pro tools look simple can you or anyone advice thank uou
Hi, How do you regulate input gain when using the HX stomp as an interface. Like the Focusrite interfaces which have a dedicated gain knob, is there a way to regulate the gain of the signal going from the Stomp into the DAW?
What if just want the Stomp Guitar sound straight into my iPhone (direct, or via iRig or jam+) where I want to add my playbacks, drummloops, metronomes, etc. for practicing. Is it possible without losing Block? What cables do I need therefore?
Would there be any drawback in putting a Shure SM58 through the audio interface using a $10 XLR to 1/4" jack? Couldn't you record vocals in this way?
Hi Trey! Did you, by chance, run into DI track cliping? I can't make it work. Every time i try to record a DI, it's just too hot and keeps cliping so the track is useless. Any tip on how to solve that?
Thanks for sharing this dude! if we use additional pedal, can we reamping it with the stomp?
Put it to the fx loop and add that to your signal chain.
Got big question. I got phantom power and condenser Mic. Will it be possible to use it through hx stomp as an audio interface? Really want this one to be answered. Thank you
do you know if works fine the HXStomp as a Audio recording interface powered by the TrueTone cs6 or another power supply, instead of his regular power adapter?
how do you like the sound of the stomp? I dont know if I should by an overdrive, delay, tuner, chorus, separately or just buy a stomp?
Nice guitar!
Trey, if I am going for metal/progressive metal, is the block limit relative to the LT a factor that you think would be restrictive?
I'm not Trey, but I'd like to give you my 2¢.. I was in the same predicament as you, and I went ahead and got the Stomp. Personally, 6 blocks is sufficient for metal. I go Noise Gate > TS > EQ > Amp > IR > Reverb and it sounds great and is just what I need. If I want a modulation or delay I just take out the EQ or Reverb. Hope this helps!
Good video pal.
Awesome
So the real question is whether we can use the other audio interface(such as Yamaha UR series or Scarlet) and hx stomp simultaneously while re-amping. I'm asking it because I think it's inconvenient not being able to balance and mix the sound coming out from DAW on hx stomp
When you reamp can you add outboard effects like a wah? Or it only runs internally thru the usb
It runs it through the HX Stomp, so if you have the outboard effects in the Stomp's effects loop I imagine that would work.
Yeah, that MacBook Pro is pretty old...*me realizing that I still do everything on a 2011 MacBook Pro* 😅
mid 2012, if it ain't broke don't fix it ha
@@bassmanleviathan3239 late 2011 for me!
2009! LOL!
2010 here... 😕
Hey mine is a 2012 MBP and it still does all I need (and your comment 3 years old)
Hey! Great video as always. I got one question which is a deal breaker to me and I have not found an answer yet.
Is it possible to use the headphone output parallel using the stereo out? My goal is to send the headphone signal to my IEM set up -which gets the other instruments from the mixer- so I have full control of what I hear without having to fight the sound guy during a song. Once again: I want to use the main stereo out with the headphone out at the same time while performing.
Thanks for your answer (Y)
Yo yo.
It's a year later...did you manage to figure it out?
If you can get a TRS jack that splits it should do the trick.
Can you use softube amp and cab sims through the stomp when using pro tools?
I just bought a Scarlett. Can I return that and just use this as an interface with my mic‘ d amp going through it? As well as using it for effects and amp sims as well. I guess what I’m getting at is do I need to keep the Scarlett for the times I’d like to just mic my amp and put it into my daw or can I run that through this? Does the stomp work as just an interface without using it for the effects and sims?
Is there some way of turning up the gain level on the DI?
Hi, dude i wonder to play differents instruments simultaneosly and use some guitar processor to do it; on pc i want to use plugins for each instrument to play with my friends; do ýou think that i can do tha with hx stomp?
Do you have a video where you talk about how to get the signal to be so loud coming through USB?
So in theory, you can reamp an actual amp with it.. you'd have to move the fx block between the amp and IR blocks though. I do this with my Eleven Rack all the time. Just make sure you've got a load on the amp, and if possible turn down the master.
Here's a tough one.
I've been using my stomps FX return as an aux in so I can jam with MP3s and video guitar lessons from my laptop.
Now what I want to do is free up my stomps FX loop so I can put my fav od pedal in the loop but if possible still jam with my MP3s and video lessons via USB ( using USB as aux in. )
Is this possible and if so how can I do it?
Any input would be greatly appreciated thank you.
Ive been having issues using headphones, as you described. The tone is terrible for me. What headphones do you use with your Helix?
You should upload your tones to the Line 6 site!
Can I use/install third party cabs sim like a Two Note Mesa cab sim?
Can you use the pod go as a audio interface? Is it the same?
Can use this live straight to the mixing board ?
so can I just use the stomp and play and record I don't need an amp ?
Is it maybe also possible to use the audio interface of the hx stomp on the road with an iPad Pro 2018? If yes, is there a manual or video, does somebody know that? I tried it for an hour and didn't get it working
Can I also use an Helix HX Effects as an audio interface? It looks like it is possible, just as the Stomp, but I can't do it, and I don't know if i'm doing something wrong, or the HXFX just won't record without using an external interface like a Scarlett
Oh and as I plug it in via USB, my Logic Pro X recognizes the new MIDI interface but I'm not being able to find it and record
I just want to plug my guitar into the HX and then into some powered monitors and jam. How do you set this up?
Male 6.3 to female XLR
I am running into problems here and I desperately need some help. This is this second day I'm trying to get this sorted out and it is not working the same way for me. I have a Patch in my HX Stomp top that I am on. I have all my cables setup just like the video.
* I have my stomp as my interface in Pro Tools.
* I have 2 audio tracks ready to go, the first to set to input 1 the second is set to input 5.
* For some reason Both Input 1 and input 5 are receiving the same output which is the effected preset I am on.
* The second thing that is very annoying is through my head phone on my STOMP I'm hearing my Guitar even when the tracks in pro tools are muted. When I unmute input 1 I hear my guitar 2x and when I unmute input 5 as well I hear my guitar 3x. Is there a setting in the HX stop I need to turn off or mute so I don't hear my guitar straight out of the headphone first??? And why do you think I am not getting a clean output on input 5?? Totally lost sorry. Thanks for your help
While I'm waiting for my HX Stomp to arrive - can you split signal without cab sim for your amp and second signal with cab for PA, BUT for 2x guitars? I know it's easy for one guitar.
He is probably talking about "parallel paths" that lead to separate outs?
Wouldn't you need 4 Outputs then..?
Hi Guys, it would be very cool to see how you would reamp using helix but going into a real amp, so passing the signal from the helix usb through the stomp out to an amp and then back into the PC.
How would I set this up in Ableton?
Hi, I use headphones directly into my Helix Lt, but the overall volume seems too low. Is there anything I could mess with in the settings?
Use headphones with lower ohms and they won’t need as much power to play loud
@@PainterDans thank you...the problem was a quit destroyed cable... everything is fine now! 😅
How can I hear my guitar from my amplifier and record on pc at the same time?
Can I record voice too with this?
So my question is can you recommend a descent free recording software other than Pro Tools? Thanks for doing this for an old rocker and a newbie to DAW recording. I love my HX Stomp and this was perfect because I don't have a interface, but I knew it was possible with the HX Stomp. Cheers
reaper. Just say still evaluating forever. Pro tools kinda sucks ngl. I use logic, so look at that if u have money
Late to the party, but you just got a sub. Neat.
I see a Mel brooks reference and I subscribe. I’m a simple man.
