Dude I hope you’re getting a paycheck from line 6 because this is some seriously good content. I just got my Stomp and your videos are by far the easiest to understand.
The best Stomp tutorial on RUclips. I understand the stomp much better. I have to watch this video again. Thanks mate. It is very valuable and helpful.
I really appreciate that there is no fluff in the video and it's all usable information. It was easy to sit through the whole video. I'll be watching it again just to hammer it all in and I'll be watching your other videos.
I've had my HX Stomp for months, and have been somewhat intimidated by the deep complexity of this device - I didn't know where to start until I found this video. Thanks so much for providing it!
I paused at 3:10 to comment. Thank you for going through the basics! I had watched other videos and felt completely lost. I am no audio engineer. I'm just an amateur musician. :D I appreciate this video!
Late to the party, but just got one of these kind of amazing pedals, and this video is as good as the pedal. Thanks for explaining it in a way that anyone can understand.
Hey Scott, I am so grateful to you for doing videos like you do. I am a professional musician who has worked with many artists in most scenarios, tv, videos, award shows, stadiums, arenas, theatre, jazz club, olympic games etc. When i am at home and doing local gigs in London I like to record my gigs, keep up with the latest tech with IEM, digital mixers, bass tech as I am a bass player and auxilary tech to make a gig easier for the musicians, akin to my pro life. Your videos are wonderful, easy to understand and very informative. I received my HX Stomp yesterday evening and am now wanting to edit for a gig this evening. After looking through 10's of videos in my research of the HX Stomp vs the competition I have watched yours and loved them along with your enthusiasm and attention to detail, your videos are by far the best for my needs. Thank you Scott.
Incredibly useful video, even after I've used the HX Stomp for 1.5 years. Initially, I used HX Edit to make all my setting changes, but discovered I wasn't really "listening" to the sounds closely enough. I was relying too much what I was seeing on my computer screen. I changed that a while back, and started using the Unit itself to make the setting changes. This turned out to be faster, and I get better sounding results. I highly recommend that method, and this video also taught me some button shortcuts I can use. Scott, thanks for making such outstanding videos. It's really helped me a lot, and this video is a good way for new and experienced users to learn and be reminded of the HX Stomp's many powerful features. 👍👍👍👍👍
Great tutorial with nice edits! Two tips that I found very useful and that might help others are: 1) You can access the tuner without a footswitch by pressing Action + Page > and 2) to quickly copy a preset just rotate the top knob while saving the preset. Enjoy your hx stomp everybody!
WONDERFUL video. Much better than the manual (which isn't bad either). Of note: 3:04 - the pedals go in reverse order on the HX Stomp compared to a traditional pedal board, with the input on the right. Might be helpful for us visual folks.
Brand new to the whole digital modulation, midi, record on a computer world. A little late to the party….but I just play at church and for friends. Looking to up my game a bit. Bought a HX Stomp and am clueless how to proceed. This video is just what I needed. There is so much information to absorb. Thanks for making it easier to understand for the technically challenged.
Mate, I just purchased HX stomp after watching your video. You explained it so well I was able to figure out most of the things on my first try. Thanks a lot!!!
I picked up the Stomp XL yesterday and was looking for a video like this. Thank you soooo much for sharing your knowledge and making it easier to understand this amazing pedal. As soon as I can get the kids to school I will be working on setting mine up.
Great video. Very clear. I used to think the HX Stomp was way more complex than I wanted to deal with, but you laid everything out really well and was easy to follow.
WOW. WOW!!! Got one of these coming in the mail and this looks like a perfect place to start. Thanks for adding the little squares to highlight your overdub, it really helps! Just watching this I can already begin like I know how to use it without even touching it yet! Part of that is of course Line 6 (what a great, intuitive design) but your instruction is really great here.
So intuitive. Like I was already looking at that page over to scroll through the individual pedal settings on the three knobs. What a stellar piece of equipment.
Insane good walk thru. Really appreciate the text on screen and the red boxes to draw my eye in. Makes walking thru the HX much easier! Keep up the good work, this was extremely helpful.
So my buddy from work just let me borrow one of these. I’ve been a “les Paul -> small pedal board -> orange ad30” guy for the last 15 years (i swear im only 31 but I feel like a boomer) so there is a lot to learn, but damn if I’m not having more fun than I have in years. And a headphone out lets me play with killer tone at 3am in my apartment. Thanks for making this video because its helped me A TON. Definitely getting a sub from me.
Thanks for your video Scott, they are very helpful. I wanted to clarify from 25:56 send/return. Example, For just one mono external pedal, we could use the block FX loop L, instead of Send L, I believe. Beats having to waste another block just for the return. Then again with this, you've also opened an experiment to have other blocks between one send L block and the Return L block, for an external delay pedal for example. 🤔👍🏻
Ahhhh that definitely makes sense! I don’t use it with other pedals, so that definitely makes way more sense that they would do it that way! I thought that was just a more advanced setting. Thanks for the comment and the correction! I appreciate it
I'm looking forward to watching your other videos on the HX. I was ready to give-up on the pedal simply because I thought you had to be a rocket scientist. thanks for taking the time.
Holy cow. This has gotta be the best review for the best pedal 😂. Can’t wait for mine to come! I play for my church quite often and this will be perfect for that. I also bought a dual footswitch
I’m not sure I understand why you put the amp/cab as the first thing in the chain, but all the other info was useful. I assume you can put the effects before the amp like a normal setup, with noise gate as the first effect, and then pedals, then amp/cab. Mine arrives Thursday, I’m excited
Glad to help! All Helix family products are amazing... it's mostly how many buttons/pedals/snapshots/presets you need. Most gigs I use this... if I need more, I use my Helix.
I’ll say. I just borrowed this from a buddy. I just wanted to see if I could program a delay/reverb in switch 1, a fuzz in 2, tuner in 3. This video was way to complicated for a first time user and for someone that wants to just use this to replace several pedals 😂
Man thank you for the content! I have been wanting to try going amp-less and pack light but I’m still stuck in the tube amps are the only option mindset, I’m starting to embrace the digital world. This really helps.
Hey Scott, As always …. Love Your Tutorials for HX Stomp. Thank You for taking the time to make and share them. 😉👍👍👍 Snapshots - I also do 1) Clean 2) Rhy Dirty 3) Lead Dirty / Boosted *** Love Snapshots for that!!! ❤ 😊👋
Finally someone actuslly explained it from the start. Thank you. Very disappointed in Line 6 instructions in the box, which simply says to go to their website.
Thanks man! Best tutorial I've found so far. I had an HX Stomp a little while ago but didn't really take the time to learn it properly, I basically just used HX Edit and used it for recording and such, but would have been completely lost trying to use it in a live scenario so this helps. As soon as I sold it I regretted it, so just bought another one again today, this time I'll really learn it, hah.
Great video Scott. Just got one of these and went through your tutorial. You saved me a lot of time! Just subbed. Updated to v3.5. It is absolutely amazing. No more buying pedals only to find that they're not the sound I want and then chucking them in the pedal graveyard (cupboard). Plus if you're a bedroom guitarist you can plug your headphones in and you don't even need an amp! Absolutely totally definitely for sure recommend getting one. Namaste x
Hi Scott, i m a great fan of your tutorials. I have a question regarding the HX Stomp and Midi. I want to send midi from my hotone ampero to the Stom using midi-cables. What have I to configure on the stomp to make it listen/respond to the midi from the ampero? Thanks!
Thanks! And it should just be under your global settings. Make sure midi is on, and the correct ports are enabled. I go over that in my global settings video: ruclips.net/video/4AezAmIiwXA/видео.htmlsi=aDOCDD2Es1VGrSc6
Great video... you are very good at explaining everything. I looked into the extra switch unit, and there are other much cheaper options... HOTONE Dual Footswitch Pedal Momentary 2-Way Pedal Switcher Foot Controller Ampero Switch 1/4-Inch is one.
Hey bud, great video once again. I'm having a problem with the footswitch assignment. I did all 3 methods you showed and none of them are working. I had the Helix LT prior to the stomp and the method you showed actually did work, but for some reason the on the fly method isn't. Lightly touching the footswitches does nothing, bypass asisgnment and "learn" do nothing as well. Anytime I try, it just switches to a new present channel. It's brand new out of the box. Any suggestions?
Kudos for the very detailed video! What's worry me is the state of your device though, they should send you a new one cause this lights look pretty disturbing and i'm not comfy about the state of the switches...
Exremely helpful (Typing without glasses on) - my HX XL did not come with the presents labeling bass and other mods. I dont know if there, well i am sure there is, software that would import that.
In addition, I’m very glad you are doing all the editing on the unit itself. A few videos I’ve seen so far have used a computer to edit, and I’m happy to see you can edit everything just as much within the unit itself
Holy shit! EVERYTHING I WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS DAMN THING!...😅 Well done my friend! Thank you so very much for this breakdown. I got so overwhelmed when I started digging into it. There is so much you can do, it's easy to get lost in it. Was for me anyway. This really cleared things up. Really appreciate your effort and work. I can't wait to start looking into how midi works with the HX Stomp, but I need to get the basics down first. Thanks again man. Means alot to so many of us dummies. 😂 Take care! 🤘
Hello, I have 2 drive pedals, 1 compressor pedal. I'm thinking of using these with the Hx stomp and using the modulation effects from the hx stomp. The Hx stomp will also act as an amp and cabinet. I wonder how the slot arrangement should be in the preset I will create in the Hx stomp?
With the send/return option you can place your pedals wherever you want in the chain on the stomp 👍 you do only get one out (because of the compact size of the hx stomp). You get more moving up in price on he Helix levels
Very useful and detailed. Sorry if i missed this answer but can anyone help please - I already have Boss Waza headphones how do headphones with the stomp compare for sound quality/‘real amp’ effect?
Tone is up to the user and your ears. I’ll tell you that I sold all my amps after I bought a helix and an hx stomp, because I never used my amps again after that. 👍
OK Scott so in the short time since I found your work you have already turned me on to using Stagetraxx 3 to run our live tracks, a great cheap wireless that breaks down to a 3.5mm tip so I can run the iPad on wireless to our ui16 mixer and now after I decided to move for the POD GO to the HX Stomp xl, you have come up with the best overview of that product. If you ever make it to south Florida for any reason, dinner is on me.
My reference for amp modelers is a Zoom GM-200 (over 20y old tech), which has a couple of decent sounds (Crunch, Metal Panel). Two weeks ago, I ordered a HX Stomp and a Boss GT-100 (over 10y old tech, still sold new). I played through the presets on all three units. My gear: Fender Am Perf Tele BTB, AKG 240 DF. My surprise: The Boss GT was the most fun to play with. Kinda that fun, I would have expected playing through the HX presets. And the 2 or 3 Zoom patches were still decent. Then I came across your excellent tutorial, because I felt the need to do sth with the HX. For the Zoom you don't need a tutorial, it is self explanatory how to dial in tones. And quite a few Boss tones were usable and conducive to playing right out of the box. So I am really asking, what am I missing? How is that possible? Shouldn't the HX be in a different league altogether? I was looking for three sounds: clean, crunch (nice breakup point), shred lead
I do personally find the helix and hx stomp to be very easy to program. Especially compared to Kemper or Fractal. But just like any other piece of gear, you just have to get to know it 👍
Dude I hope you’re getting a paycheck from line 6 because this is some seriously good content. I just got my Stomp and your videos are by far the easiest to understand.

Thanks for this video. I’ve had a Kemper for years and just got the HX Stomp XL. Information you provide makes the learning curve so much quicker!
Thanks! And Kemper is quite an amazing unit for sure. I do think helix is easier to program than Kemper or Axe FX, but they are all great for tones!

With the send/return option you can place your pedals wherever you want in the chain on the stomp 👍 you do only get one out (because of the compact size of the hx stomp). You get more moving up in price on he Helix levels
Excellent video & very helpful.
Wonderful video. You are a good teacher; I learned a lot and subscribed.
Thanks!
Just the vid that I needed. Thank you Scott!!
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much!!!! The best video about how to use the Line 6 Stopm!!!! Very clear and easy to learn) Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad to help!
Great instructional vid. Concise and clear , easy to understand with no EGO involved. Thank you .
Thanks! Glad so many people have found this helpful
Thanks for the detailed video. If I have three presets lined up with few effects on/off (in preset mode), then how is it different than snapshot mode?
There is no “pause” between changing patches in snapshots. But if you like it as it is, there is no worries to keep it how you are using it 🤘
OK Scott so in the short time since I found your work you have already turned me on to using Stagetraxx 3 to run our live tracks, a great cheap wireless that breaks down to a 3.5mm tip so I can run the iPad on wireless to our ui16 mixer and now after I decided to move for the POD GO to the HX Stomp xl, you have come up with the best overview of that product. If you ever make it to south Florida for any reason, dinner is on me.
Thanks Katie! 🤘 Glad the gear has been doing so well for you. Great choices 🤘
But just like any other piece of gear, you just have to get to know it 👍
@@ScottUhlMusic I absolutely concur, especially after watching your great tutorial. Line6 might want to reconsider their presets, though.
Exactly what I needed. Thank you.
