    I hope your post xpac review hits upon how the writers completely ignored our promise to G'Raha to take him on our next adventure. Once as the Exarch and once in Ultima Thule we promised to do it with him.
    And instead we head off with a completely new character we know nothing about but we for some reason agree to put them on a throne of a nation we know nothing about.

    The honor thing in the daddy fight happens constantly in media and doesn't stand out to me at all. Happens in historical war films all the time. The resolution of larger conflict via duels. I can understand why some didn't like it for sure.

    That scene was rough. It's so easy to fix, it should have took place meanwhile we were helping outside. We walk in on daddy just as he is killed, Wuk & WoL kill Zoraal Ja. He rezzes, then retreats by teleporting/going invisible or some shit. Without his leadership we push his army back to at least secure the city.
    There is no reason why we let him walk away! That's what so ridiculous. Afterall his motivations are ridiculous, he wants to spread peace by showing them war.... But that's what already happened when daddy brought peace, it's never explained/shown why Zoraal Ja thinks this time will be different.

      Allowing Zoraal Ja to withdraw also means he recalls the robots.

    Regarding *that* scene, i dunno i feel like the whole ‘father wants to be the one to put down his son because he feels responsible for his sins’ is a very common trope in this kinda media? Gulool Ja Ja basically says as much before they fight.

      We honored Wuk Lamat wanting to take on Bakool Ja Ja on her own even when dirty tricks were employed. Gulool Ja Ja wanted to take on that fight on his own as he believed he was the one to bear the weight of having caused this problem to occur in the first place. It makes full sense why we stood there and let the fight play out, even if it was rough for everyone to see.
      We didn't want it to happen, but interfering would also be a disservice to Gulool Ja Ja's wishes.

      I would argue it doesn't get any better until the very last zone, for reasons beyond the villains. Everything about Dawntrail is so rough around the edges. The last zone is amazing, but because it's so easy to connect with people on an emotional level when it comes to the prospect of one more day with a lost loved one.
      Zoraal Ja and Sphene are laughably one-dimensional, and Wuk Lamat never really gets any better in being insufferably suffocating to the plot. The last two zones should have been Erenville and Krille's show, instead it's about Wuk's dynamic with Sphene.

    • @Thalagos
      @Thalagos Месяц назад +2

      I suspect that some of the rough edges of the story are also a result of having more funds go to things like the graphics update as well as Yoshi P directing ff16 concurrently with ff14. If I recall correctly this was pushed back because of ff16 but it seems like they could have used another 3-5 months for QA/QC with how clunky the story is at some parts. Just my speculation but there's only so much staff time allocated and funding for these things in the corporate world...

    Yeah the “standing around and letting the villains chew the scenery” is a FF14 problem, not a DT problem and yeah it’s bad but this wasn’t anymore egregious than Emet Selch standing IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CRYSTARIUM TOWN SQUARE and being evil for like 10 whole minutes and no one kicked the shit out of him, it’s always been like that

    • @thebigidea9659
      @thebigidea9659 Месяц назад +20

      You do actually remember what happened when the scions eventually fought Emet right? They got the shit kicked out of them. Just because the big bad is right in front of them doesn't guarantee victory if they all attack. The scions are strong but they aren't all on our level.

    • @TheDeadlypixels
      @TheDeadlypixels Месяц назад +4

      @@thebigidea9659 yep, they got their asses kicked because they waited to jump him when the WoL was in their worst state, and not the other 8 times he shows up to make fun of us to our faces when we could’ve easily jumped in as well and helped. That’s what I mean when I say the standing around and waiting until the final trial is a FF14 problem, not something that dawntrail invented. At this point to play FF14 is to accept that the villain has plot armor due to protagonist paralysis until the last fight of the expansion

    • @TheDeadlypixels
      @TheDeadlypixels Месяц назад +2

      With that being said I would LOVE if the next expansion had multiple scenes where characters went: “No, fuck this, FUCK your speeches, we’re fighting. Right now.” But just know that it would be the first time in this games history where that happened 😆

    • @thebigidea9659
      @thebigidea9659 Месяц назад +5

      @@TheDeadlypixelsI don't Emet Selch wasn't any less powerful then that when we fought him at the end. The scions were not ready to fight a prime ascian. Hell, we couldn't even do it without summoning other players to help us.
      They are strong enough to face some opponents like Hydaelyn(though she was already quite weak at that point) but then get squashes by the endsinger and nearly obliterated.

    • @crushme2233
      @crushme2233 Месяц назад +3

      At that point in time, we didn't even have enough of the light of the dawn wardens to use as a weapon to kill Emet. Nor did they have the white auracite prepared to keep him from fleeing.
      Also, there are times where you fight the bad guy when you're not strong enough and get your ass kicked. Zenos beats you twice and almost kills Yshtola the first time. Ran'jit also beat everyone to the point where they had to flee.

  • @LC-sc3en
    @LC-sc3en 18 дней назад

    I like DT and actually love Wuk Lamat. I feel the second half of the story I love for different reasons than the first half. The expansion does have issues with pacing. Some things seem really rushed. To top it Zoraal Ja is boring and moronic and the weakest part. And most scenes surrounding him are the same way.
    Honestly though, the solitary duel seems fine at the beginning. If a father thinks his son must be killed it makes sense that he would want to be the one to do it. And at that point it could be believe that it was only fancy armor and not enough to mean Gulool Ja Ja would loose.
    Which with that assumption was the right conclusion.
    But as soon as Zoraal Ja died and Rezzed it should have been a free for all and the Scions should have intervened. I get the siblings not making a move in shock or whatever but then you were fighting an unknown power and you might need everyone’s strength including Gulool to emerge victorious. They should have contrived something to keep us distracted. Like when he died a bunch of bots come in and start fighting us or take our attention to force a second one on one duel. Or at the very least have Gulool push back physically when we tried to help. Make it a character flaw and address it before he dies.
    After the death though when you are clearly out matched it makes sense to not goad him into further combat once he promises a withdrawal. For the people’s sake but also time to regroup, gather info, and prepare.
    I do think they put a lot of time in setting up the might makes right culture in both Mamook and XakTel as part of prepping for this scene to be more acceptable to viewers.

  • @calebnelson58
    @calebnelson58 Месяц назад +6

    Now you understand why Zoraal Ja is one of the worst villains they've ever introduced. His motives make no sense at all. At the start he wanted to use Tuliyollals army which is the least technologically advanced nation existing right now to go to war with everyone including Garlemald a nation that is currently being protected by the Eorzean Alliance which has one of if not the most powerful army when combined on the planet. How does he plan to achieve this when Tural has no boats, airships, and little to no actual mages like you see two in the whole invasion while everyone else wields a sword. He's a joke and when he arrives in the throne room 30 years later his time he still can't beat his father at full power when we stalemated him levels earlier. Leading to the discussion that the WoL should be leaps and bounds stronger than Zoraal Ja and could easily handle him at this point when we could and should have intervened to try to save Gulool Ja Ja. The point is the only reason he even gets this far is because nobody bothers to stop him when we are more than capable of doing so.

    • @gregorysmith9114

      His motives make perfect sense. He has intense daddy issues. His father united two continents, so he wants to unite the world. His Father did it by kicking ass (and empathy), so he had to prove he can kick bigger ass. He is also a stupid trust fund baby that doesn't understand anything which is how he gets such wild goals. The part where literally anyone in story takes him seriously is the stupid part.

    This has been really hard to watch. I'm still trying to sit through it. It's fine to say that someone doesn't enjoy the scene with gulool ja ja, we don't all enjoy the same things, but to say that it doesn't make sense is just dumb tbh. You've got a guy who can understand and watch western and samurai movies, but somehow when it comes to ff14 the one-on-one honor fighting doesn't make sense suddenly. But it's a good way to farm engagement i suppose.
    And I'm also glad that I don't normally engage with the community online, because it's been super one-track lately and intolerable. I'm glad that I was able to enjoy the story on my own time without outside influence. The story is slow to begin with, but it's groundwork that makes later events hit harder. The scions being gone is a very welcome change, I got really tired of everything being about them. My biggest feedback personally is that the msq should have more kill quests. And I couldn't really sympathise much with Sphene, which it seemed like the story wanted you to do. But overall the story as a whole was pretty good. Nice change of pace

    I think he should get back to the single player titles.
    Any good single player title.
    Lost Odyssey, definitely
    Myst series/similar puzzle games, good
    Silent Hill remake, might be good
    Elden Ring DLC, not bad
    Legend of Dragoon, not terrible
    Final Fantasy X-2, good rage content
    Golden Sun, not bad
    Besides these there's really not much left. Maybe that's why he pivots to the mmo games.
    Because he has to draw out on the good content for at least another decade. I suppose if there's no more good content, challenge playthroughs or 100% games could become content. As long as he doesn't go down the Dragon Quest rabbit hole, same stuff as Persona and FF14.

      @@dimcules3264 Oh yeah those types of games are pretty good. Shenmue, Yakuza. There's also Hitman, but he might have played that already. But there will come a point when there's no more good content. If you don't drag out on it you're going to have to fall back on 100%'in games, challenge playthroughs and speedrunning.
      And that's quite difficult and probably boring, I can see why you'd want to put that off and the mmos are like infinite content. They're designed to last for decades by taking advantage of peoples need to be socially accepted. Which they aren't in real life for one reason or another. But then you've got a moral conundrum, you're sort of partaking in that abuse. Especially predatory towards the people that spend hundreds of dollars in the ingame stores for imaginary items.
      But I suppose that's in the job description of some streamers, funnel people towards cheap predatory games by taking sponsorships. Got to pay the bills. It's not ideal but an acceptable compromise, some quality single player content, some predatory brain rot content for monetary gain.
