New File Block

- I came up with this idea for a file block. I used a file and cut it in 2 pieces then added a comfortable handle.
It works better than sandpaper and better than a regular file. Great for removing, sanding and shaping wood.

I always enjoy the simple yet very practical workshop tools you make. Thanks for sharing with us.
Thank you.
Great idea Jack.
Something I learned, is to route the end grain first so when you route the long grain it takes care of the chip out.
Nice idea. I managed to break a file and I still have the broken off piece. This is a great way to get more use out of it. Keep up the great work, Jack !
It's been a long time since I've seen a new video of yours, but as with the rest, this one was well worth the wait! Keep it up Jack! You're my Small Workshop's HERO! I'm off to create File Blocks!
Magnificent Jack, a great job and a new and good tool more.
Thank you very much for your channel and your ideas.
Perhaps some may want a slightly rounded end of the file to prevent some gouging sometimes.
That is a good idea, easy enough to do on a belt sander.
Great idea Jack, your ideas are always unique and real practicle
I just came in possession of some old files so this is a great idea. Thanks brother!
Love this idea. Will help a lot when carving turbine blades!
Good idea! Looks nice too. Thanks for your ideas.
a very very very good idea that is exactly a tool what I for sure will build and use in my guitar shop flat like yours and also with 35° and 45° angle
Thanks a lot for this great inspiration
Cheer Tim
Sweet. I made something along the same lines for fret end filing on a guitar which incorporates a 90 and 33 degree bevel.
That's a clever idea. Thanks for sharing. I should have somewhere a file without a handle. If I can find it I can make a pair of
those file blocks.
I have some of these in short lengths for shaving paint drips.i will have to make this size for woodworking, thanks great instruction!
Man I like the way you work. Another great idea. Thanks for sharing.
Very cool! Classic luthier's tool. Cheers, Chris.
Haven’t watched this one in a while, Jack, but it’s still a good video and tip. Thanks.
I can think of a lot of good uses for this all ready! At work, I work at a auto paint and body shop, we use a short stubby version of this for de-nibbing trash and runs in paint jobs.
Excellent Jack, I have files I never use, now I can put them back to work.
Good one Jack! Nice way to reutilize an old file...................Thanks
Nice job, Jack.
Most excellent idea Jack! Thanks for sharing!
Jack this is a really great design. It's simple but effective.
Great job!!
Thanks for sharing and God bless
This is such a good idea.
There might be a way to hold the file with strong magnets so you can use both sides.
Damn I was just thinking of this. Recessed magnets so the file bites into the hardwood first so it doesn't wiggle about and erode the magnets.
I hagree!!! and I agree!
Those strong magnets out of hard drives could work.
@@jan-reiniervoute6701 those magnets are just neodymium magnets. the reason they feel strong is due to large surface area and small N/S pole distance therefore tighter magnet field therefore more power. Any neodymium magnet would work.
Or make a slot
Good idea however it would be nice to use strong magnets so you can use both sides of the file what do you think
You could just clean the file with a brass brush
Brilliant idea!!!
Nice work Jack!
Great idea.!
What a neat idea! Thanks for sharing this.
Very clever! Thanks for sharing.
Great idea, thanks for sharing
excellent idea! this is called a fret levelling file in the luthier world! thank you for sharing!
I can see that it would be very easy to use for that task, thanks for pointing that out. All the different experiences people share like this are so educational.
I didn't know that, they took my idea, haha.
Nice one
Good use for old files! Someone please send Jack some “Microjig Grippers”?!
Very useful , thank you Jack
Great idea, thanks for sharing.
Hello Jack
That's a very good idea 💡 it's great 👍 👍 👍
Excellent idea
Muy buena idea, como todas las que usted hace ,le felicito
I use a file like this when I work on frets on a guitar.
Gracias por compartir sus ideas AMIGO, saludos cordiales de parte de su servidor José María González Íñiguez desde Tonalá Jalisco México
Excellent!
Many of us would Knot of thought of this idea... Thank you for sharing : -)

What a neat solution
Sei un grande, You big, great idea
jack your a mad mann!!!!
Greetings, clever and useful. A few of these will be showing up on my shop. Soon I hope. But the way things get done around here it may be a while. Thanks for the share. pax, PL
With a course would rasp I could see a real use for this idea for fine-tuning some wood turnings.
You're such a stud Jack...
Great idea Jack, but how can you see what's the using direction?
hello ... we have things in common. It makes me very happy to see you on my channel. thank you. Yours truly. You're doing great things. congratulations....
Did you mention that on one, the file is flipped over, to provide a different "grit"?
I'll bet this file system will last longer than emery paper!
And it is cheaper.
Will last longer than sandpaper too. Thank you.
And save me money, the file cost me $8.00.
Nice
Hello my friend 👍
De Brasil
Don't rasps do this?
Rasps are very course.
@@Jacka440 I'm pretty sure there's some cheap rasps, but now that I think back to it, they're expensive as hell and have painfully uncomfortable plastic handles; AND they're not hardened so they wear out too damn fast.
I just think it's kinda a waste for the other side of the file that's glued to but I can't come up with a trivial way of attaching. Just complex ideas of drilling it, or magnets, or some metal jaws clamping onto the sides.
In the long run, this is cheaper than sand paper. Eh?
$8.00 for the file.
I hope you patented this idea. It is superb.
nice tool, good idea, good skill and last longer and longer and......
