  • September 22nd Today in History The Anti-National Act Punishment Act (反民族行爲處罰法) is a law enacted to punish pro-Japanese collaborators who collaborated with Japan during the Japanese colonial period. This law was promulgated on September 22, 1948. The Anti-National Act Punishment Act defined pro-Japanese collaborators as pro-Japanese collaborators, traitors, war criminals, and traitors, and established a legal basis for punishing them. Under this law, the Special Investigation Committee for Anti-National Acts (Special Investigation Committee for Anti-National Acts) was formed and began investigating pro-Japanese collaborators. The Special Investigation Committee for Anti-National Acts began its activities in October 1948 and conducted preliminary investigations for the punishment of pro-Japanese collaborators. However, the activities of the Special Investigation Committee for Anti-National Acts faced difficulties due to various political and social factors. In particular, the effectiveness of the Special Investigation Committee for Anti-National Acts was greatly reduced when it was disbanded in October 1949 by Jang Gyeong-geun, who was a pro-Japanese collaborator. The Anti-National Acts Punishment Act was abolished on February 14, 1951, and the abolition of this law resulted in the liquidation of pro-Japanese collaborators being left unfinished. The Anti-National Acts Punishment Act is an important law in the history of the Republic of Korea, and is evaluated as part of the effort to punish pro-Japanese collaborators during the Japanese colonial period. There was much controversy and conflict during the enactment and enforcement of this law, and it reflected the conflict between social demands for the punishment of pro-Japanese collaborators and political reality. The Anti-National Acts Punishment Act is an important attempt to solve the historical tasks of the Republic of Korea, and its meaning and limitations are continuously being discussed.
