For me there is a fun build that I affectionately call the "sheepdog" Nelson.
This requires you have at least one (although preferably more) allies with area attacks. And it largely relies on titanomancy mesh as a core bonus and a few different talent trees:
    Hunter III
    Duelist III
    skirmisher II
    And the ramjet
Activate the ramjets as a protocol, then barrage, if your to far away from your target (which you probably shouldn't be) you can use lunge from the hunter tree to close distance, otherwise you can hit with your pike, kb2, but titanomancy mesh says you can push them one space further so effectively kb3. Hop 1 Duelist 3 gives you a dice you can spend immediately to grapple or ram (take the ram) that I think should also kb 3, titanomancy mesh states that whenever you would make a ram or grapple you can make a ram or grapple for free so we are going to hop 1 and make another ram hop 1 now we can use our power knuckle if we didn't need to lunge earlier and lunge now, kb3 hop 1, disdainful blade triggers literally throw hands kb3 hop 1 and then have 2 power knuckles on the flex mounts both of which we can throw.
All of this kickback and free movement means that the Nelson can totally heard 3 or 4 enemies into the same area so your allies can pound them with artillery. Even more so when you pop core bonus and those 1 square hops between attacks become 4 square hops

Thermal Charge as a mod is so funny to me, like, hey, I have this bundle of explosives, just punch someone with it. Or put it on the War Pike to turn your lance into a lunge mine

Nelson might be my favorite mech aesthetically. Looks like a Warhammer 40k Knight

Ramjet’s 2 knockback seems like anti-synergy with the frame’s ability to move one space after attacking, because you don’t step far enough to keep the enemy in fist range.

I think thats to get into engagement with an enemy that wants to be engaged and then backing out

The +5 HP ipn core bonus and personalizations is HUGE if you are agility building with Nelson. For that 10% of the time you get hit there is a huge dif between say 8 and 15 HP.
One level of Tortuga grants a decksweper, and if you are going to take a range weapon on a mech that gotta go fast it might as well be one that does 2d6. Pike, push and shotgun is just a cool combo full stop.
Reactive mesh is also solid for when a crit happens you might be forced to brace and you might as well get somethjng out of that.

I can't stop thinking how the Nelson is the space paladin (5e) mech. It's the frame of choice for the Albatross, and it has a weapon mod that works like a divine smite? How can it not be so?

I found, that combining ramjet, with momentum, and the LUCIFER protocol from Tokugawa, with the plasma gauntlets from the Tokugawa is a super fun way to deal one, super attack, in a fun anime style.

War Pike is great, it's a melee weapon with 3 threat, knockback, and is one of the few Main weapons that you can Throw by default. With all the Nelson's bonus movement, it's easy to get to where your pike falls to the ground after throwing it to pick it back up. Threat 3 with knockback 1 means if an opponent tries to get past you, you're able to attack it and push it back, interrupting its movement.
The Power Knuckles might be the strongest Aux weapon in the game, numbers wise, and the crit knocking enemies on their butts kills their movement too. It pairs great with the Hunter pilot talent tree to give you a Rocket Punch with 5 range! Said tree also gives you 3 extra movement towards your target, which makes its range effectively go up to 8. Combine it with the Skirmisher pilot tree for 2 more bonus movement, and that range becomes 10. And that then also applies to your war pike, since nothing says you need to attack with your main weapon first on your Main/Aux mount.
Bulwark Mods is just nice to have, letting you move through water, zero-G, enemy wrecks, and forest areas without losing speed, and it only costs 1 SP. Difficult terrain comes up more often than you'd think, and on some slower, smaller frames, it's a godsend. On something as mobile as the Nelson, it's just ok. But on anything with 3 or less speed? It's the difference between moving 1 space and 6 spaces, sometimes.

The stupid thing to do with a Nelson is to run all 3 levels, spend your core bonus on adding a flex mount, and piling on a War Pike and 5 pairs of Power Knuckles, then getting 2 levels in the Hunter talent so you can rocket punch for days.

Sources of knockback stack, so im pretty sure the Ramjet makes the War Pike knockback 3

I usually get 1 rank for the bulwark mod, if I can spare a license because the GM I roll with loves difficult terrain. Like every other battle, most of the battlefield is difficult terrain. If I'm going melee then I usually go 2 ranks into Nelson for that +1d6.
I have a crazy setup with the tempest charge blade, thermal charge, and overpower caliber, with no resistances it's 5d6+4 on damage. yes, I know it's overkill but at least I know I'm killing them. it also works crazy well with the executioner trait.

That's easy enough to do on Nelson as a frame though if you run Nuclear Cav. War Pike is just solid for this because of the reach and knockback giving you room to breathe doing so. Easiest way to get to half heat is to use an EVA module's partial flight system, then you use the Boost bonus to clear an entire battlefield and snipe enemies, except you yourself are the bullet, with 5d6 total damage along with 2 heat.

I think the nelson suffers alot from gm dependencies
The speed is incredible on massive maps, and when there is one particular high priority but kow hp npc that needs to be removed from the field **now**
But the less difficlut terrain thwir is, and the smaller the map, the less you need it.
And agaisnt a single large boss enemy, yeah, the cycle is incredibly repetitive.
A simple and effective problem solver that is outcompeted in versatility
