  • Are you unsure about the importance of Lifetime Insurance (LTI), or if there really is any importance to it at all? This video is for you!
    Not much information has been provided by CIG on this important topic, but I do my best to give some perspective. Watch in its entirety to hear some key thoughts and ideas that may help you better understand what LTI is and will be once the feature is implemented.

    The fact that they have been using insurance as a selling point since day one, but have yet to actually specify what insurance actually means in the game after launch, is one of the shadiest things about their business model in my opinion.

      Yeah I can get behind a lot of stuff but this is uncool.
      They might actually plan to make it matter a lot, but they can't expect us to go off of guesses. Likewise we can't expect them to already know how exactly it's going to work, so IMO it should come with a money-back guarantee on launch for the value of the LTI itself.

      So you mean the insurance stuff really don't matter when I'm buying ships with money on pledge store ? ( 3 ,6 ,24 months)
      After that time do I lose my pledged ships and out real money .... because if that is the case. It's totally not worth me buying and supporting this game anymore ...please someone HELP . IM A NOOB LOL

      @@Crob92 You'll never permanently lose anything which you've paid real money for. You simply may have to pay a bit more in terms of in-game money (UEC) to reclaim a destroyed ship, when compared to a ship with LTI. LTI is really just a convenience in the form of lowered ongoing maintenance costs ingame, in exchange for providing CIG more real money *now* to increase funds for development.
      Longtime backer here, and I do not own any LTI ships. Actually my only pledge is a Cutlass Black package ;)

    The fact that 12 years into the project, 11 years into development, 10 years into public crowdfunding, and worse of all 8 years of the delayed release..... And we still have no clue how insurance will ultimately work, and we are still "theorycrafting", is utterly ridiculous.
    With CIG being purposely coy. I refuse to own ANY ship that doesnt have LTI. Luckily its cheaper to build CCU chains with LTI than buying the under insured fully priced vessels and often cheaper than the Original Concept Warbond LTI ships. So, its stupid to ever buy any ship that DOESNT have LTI.

    Your point of view on this topic is refreshing to hear. The worst part of it all is the uncertainty of the insurance gameplay, and let's not add the fact that contract/mission payouts will definitely change at some point before release, so another unknown variable.

    I look at LTI purely as a means of saving $5-$15 off the cost of a ship. LTI is just a side benefit of saving the initial $5-15 cost off a ship pledge. Last year’s warbond $65 Spartan saved $15 off the cost of a more expensive ship pledge. Getting the $80 Spartan allowed you to use store credit and came with 120-month insurance.

    If you know Star Hangar, you know its IMPORTANT, because on secondary markets, the price difference is gigantic, if you ever want to sell some ship you got tired of.
    Aside from that, LTI is excellent to have - can't loose your ship neither by malice nor by mistake!

    This was a great video! I have 10 year insurance on my entire fleet. I figure that is enough. Getting LTI on everything has a USD cost that is not worth it to me. If I'm too broke to pay for insurance after grinding for 10 years, I really am doing something wrong. Or else CIG implemented a space casino, because I'm a degenerate gambler.

    Nice work in this presentation. There is so much FOMO and speculation on this topic.
    With CIG using insurance as a marketing ploy, they are going to be walking on egg shells when insurance finally matters. I am sure they will eventually make it fair and balanced. But the old saying goes, "you can't please everyone".
    I can only imagine the flaming internet when insurance starts to matter.

  • @realnerdyviking812

    To add to what you've said here, I imagine there will be some additional value to LTI holders, similar to Kickstarter pledge rewards. Something that is objectively better than anything you can get post launch, but not game-breakingly so. For example, it might be that besides the fact you never have to renew, you might have lower deductibles, or free parts (i.e. custom module replacement), instead of just a stock pledge. I don't think it's JUST going to be that you don't ever have to renew, though depending on renewal costs that could very well be enough (e.g. if the renewal cost is several times the purchase price of the ship).
    There is also a question as to even how long insurance IN GAME would last. Maybe buying insurance for a ship only lasts a week or a month. Having 10 years or LTI insurance then has some extreme value, since it would be an extremely frequent expense.
    I do also want to note that besides the FOMO effect that is absolutely real, I think there is a certain piece of mind that comes with LTI for certain casual players, which brings its own value. It's not expensive to get LTI (look at the cutter), which you can then upgrade using credits to w/e ships you want. So, for casual players who might take long breaks from games for whatever reason, they get the peace of mind knowing that they'll always have insurance on SOME ships, despite if their insurance has lapsed on others. So they won't have the fear of having their ship blown up while they are getting the credits to repurchase new insurance.

  • @jacobliefeld9248
    @jacobliefeld9248 Год назад +2

    One important thing to note with regards to insurance is that it’s measured in in-game time, not real time. This has been confirmed over spectrum.
    10 year insurance is 10 in-game years, not 10 real world years.
    Even if we assume that time in Star Citizen moves at only twice the speed of the real world (and I should mention that this is what I consider to be the absolute slowest I expect it to move - I personally expect a factor of 4 is more likely), that 10 year insurance from the IAE will only last you 5 years in reality.
    I don’t mean for this to change any minds one way or another, but I did feel that it was important to take note of. You will often hear people saying something along the lines of “you will never need more than 10 year insurance”, and this often overlooked fact makes that statement strictly untrue… at least for any ship you actually expect to keep long-term. After all, it’s long alpha cycle and persistent player base in spite of that means the game will have an expected lifespan FAR LONGER than a mere 5 (real world) years once released.
    My personal opinion on LTI is that you should only really look to get it on your larger or more exotic ships (large alien ships like the BMM and luxury ships like the 600 and 890 in particular due to their size and the luxury/alien/rarity/exotic material tax that affect their price and replacability in game).

  • @Darksoull.
    @Darksoull. Год назад +2

    LTI tokens are pretty cheap really. I mean during a sale you can usually pick something up for about $40 that has LTI, and then CCU it to a bigger ship you actually want using your store credit. ATM I see LTI as just a chest puffing exercise, like "All my ships have LTI " bragging rights.
    If I remember rightly years ago CIG said that insurance will be fairly inexpensive once it is implemented. I mean it kind of makes sense, since you are going to earn and buy ships in game, and they won't come with LTI. So if you grind hard and end up with a massive fleet of ships in game, you are going to want insurance to be pretty dam cheep or you will be grinding just to keep up with your insurance costs.

  • @jvoodoochild2755

    Imho, LTI was offered, in the early days of development, as a marketing ploy to create FOMO to concept sales which was key to raising money
    After CCUs (for those who don’t know means cross chaise upgrades) were introduced, the LTI token was born
    To me, pledging is spending money outside the game to save time inside the game. The value of that ratio is completely speculative and subjective. I happen to be an advocate that game packages offer more value than LTi tokens in a lot of situations

      Plus, it would be shocking to see LTI being "less" than a 120 or 6 month plan. Every ship that is over $1000 comes with LTI as a bonus. If that "bonus" was actually worse than a 6 month policy, that wouldn't go very well for CIG.

    for me, medium to light ships I don't care about LTI unless its a ship I manage to pick up during war bond since its a ship I really want to pledge. Now for all my large to capital ships all have LTI for the sole reason that CIG stated that insurance may depend on ship size and price. Now sure maybe getting a renewed lease on something like a cutty black or Andromeda won't be too draining but something like replacing a Polaris or hull series would be insanely expensive.

  • @Nosdeblack
    @Nosdeblack Год назад +4

    I'm just afraid of LTI sense becomes lesser then we all imagine. We know it isn't that hard to happen. But on the other hand, I still have afraid of losing time and spending lots of Uec with insurance ingame, depending on gameplay pirates and pvpers will create there.

  • @Mike5Brown

    I think they'll chicken out with insurance and store-bought ships. I wouldn't be surprised if in the end, LTi is basically free, premium and free deductible (on some sort of cool down for use). store-bought ships I bet will be recoverable even without insurance at a much higher deductible amount.
    Personally, I'm keeping a very small fleet(2 ships), so getting LTI on everything isn't that big of a deal.

    LTI is a very good thing, especially for people who don't have much time to grind. I bought a Carrack package with LTI but not all the ships that are in the package I like. So those ships with LTI that I don't like I can change to ships that I like but do not have LTI. This way I can get LTI for the ships I like.

    I believe it would be more accurate to say that LTI is typically available for new concept ships/vehicles, Straight-to-Flyable Ships, referral gifted ships, concierge rewarded ships, and standalone ships / game packages which exceed $1000.
    Warbond refers to pledges which are strictly cash only, with no option of using store credits. CIG typically ties warbonds with discounted ships which mostly have 6 month insurance unless it falls in one of the other categories or is part of an event which warrants 2 year or 10 year insurance.
    Specifically, your example @1:30, both included 6 mos insurance. The Warbond version is discounted while the standard version is not.

    You missed three quite important pieces of info/points. First, CR said LTI is not going to be important, it's just a perk. But, there are some reasons to believe subcapital and capital ships will have very high maintenance costs, including insurance. There LTI might prove extremely advantageous. And thirdly, you are much more likely to be able to sell a ship in grey market if it's LTI (whether there is a rational reason for that is another matter).

    Ways to fix LTI once the game takes off.
    - You will be granted life time insurance on your ship, but only in your home planet. Which would be in Stanton. Would suck if you were journeying 20 systems away.
    - Your ship takes a considerable amount of time in game to be claimed. Like 1 hour of in game play. Can be expedited but its still essentially free.
