I've been binging your videos again, and I'm just so happy you make us content. Love your opinions, even when I vehemently disagree. Just wanted to say, from a fan, thank you for what you do.
Great list (I love your voice, so strangely soothing and romantic) My top 10: 1. Rosemarys Baby (1968) 2. Eyes Wide Shut (1999) 3. The Shining (1980) 4. Alien (1979) 5. Black Swan (2010) 6. Under the Skin (2014) 7. Scream (1996) 8. Perfect Blue (1997) 9. Midsommar (2019) 10. Psycho (1960)
Thank you! Under the Skin was such a great movie. I need to watch that one again. Strange to see Eyes Wide Shut on there though. But I guess it is kind of a psychological horror. Especially for any married couples.
Great video. Great list. We appreciate your clarification of the difference between thriller & horror. We prefer the films that combine the 2. Were working on a list. This video is inspiring. The Fly is a great classic.

I love that u included Lake Placid. I love that movie. It's probably the best crocodile/alligator film ever made. Life is a very scary movie that is very underrated. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Omfg I love that you brought up the relic! One of the only creature films that ever got to me. It's both mesmerizing and horrifying at the same time. Perfect.
Isn't it! That film just doesn't get talked about and it's so bloody good! That scene where the security guard goes to the bathroom and he hears "the killer" enter. The sound of it breathing before we get to see it freaked me out first time I saw it.
@@BryanLomax for me it was when it runs at her and she has to get the door closed in time. The way it moved was so intentional with combining characteristics - I could never figure out why it got to me as much as it did for years but that's it. You can see so many details in just that one feature that gives me chills. Plus I always kind of love when there's an intensely intelligent woman as a lead.
Great list, Bryan! I do appreciate the variety you and Cody had, including some that I haven't seen but now really want to. I'll admit I thought "Psycho" would make your Top 5 and was surprised the original "Nightmare" wasn't on the list. To each their own though! 😊 Was interesting to see what movies you added that spark debate on whether or not they're horror. There were some I personally wouldn't count as horror but your explanations as to why you see them as part of the genre are totally valid! It's always fun to see how others view certain films cause it shows how blurred the lines can be. Well done sir ✌
Not done watching this yet. I just wanted to say thank you for making this awesome video great list so far love your channel can't wait to see what you do next
I get what you say about the blurred line between "horror" and "thriller" - but "Zodiac" ? Maybe it's just me, but I strongly disagree that this is a horror movie. A few movies I expected to be on this list, but didn't show up: - Hereditary (easily in my top ten of all time) - Martyrs - I Saw The Devil - The Howling - Event Horizon - Audition - Cats (the 2019 remake)
I watched a tv series called Invasion which aired on channel 4 years ago which was about aliens in the water taking over people's bodies really underrared series!
Saw Aliens in the cinema in October. Fantastic experience. Loved it since i saw it in 94 the first time. A perfect 10. Saw Psycho also same month. Great too. Thank God for film clubs!
Thank you for giving love to Manhunter and Critters. I feel like my taste in horror movies much more jives with your taste than Cody's. Not that that makes his choices bad or anything, but i like when i see new movies on your list because i have a greater chance to enjoy them myself. Also, i completely agree about the idea of losing your mind being horrifying. I am not scared of death, we all die in the end, but losing my mind is terrifying. Just toss me in a volcano.
I am genuinely surprised you put the second Alien movie at number one instead of the first one. It is always, of course, a matter of personal taste, but Alien is more of a horror movie. By the way, Sigourney's character from the first one is one of my favourite "final girls" in horror aside from Nancy from ANOES and the girl from You're Next is so good that she verges on being a Mary Sue but dodges that just well enough with a satisfactory explanation for being so competent with the survival skills (still a refreshing contrast to the cliche nitwits that only seem to exist to feed the slasher villain or monster's body count or the final girl that only really survives because they were hunted last).
Thank you for giving The Hitcher is credit. Disagree on It Follows, I was bored with the story and characters but I understand that is a very person to person movie. Top20 1. The Shining 2. Scream 3. The Hitcher 4. Let the right one in 5. Hereditary 6. Trick r Treat 7. The Blair Witch project 8. The Host 9. Videodrome 10. Lost Highway 11. Housebound 12. Halloween 13. Get Out 14. Ginger Snaps 15. The Craft 16. The Exorcist 17. H3 Season of the Witch 18. Night of the Creeps 19. Jaws 20. The Witch
Really enjoyed this list. Are there really people who don’t think Sixth Sense is a horror movie? I’d like to study these people for science. That kitchen scene with the lady in the pink robe and her cut wrists screaming that dinner is not ready is one of the most purely terrifying scenes ever filmed.
The dead zone! Absolutely adore this movie. Walken is incredible, you feel so much for him. I have to say I think that you calling Dog soldiers the best werewolf movie sounds like an heresy, but I have not seen it! I'll watch it ASAP so I can make my mind. Very interesting list, great taste in horror.

I don't typically comment on these. I just love horror and love watching anything horror related. I felt the need to comment on your list because I think it's a very fine/diverse list. I love a very very wide variety of horror and have favs in almost every sub genre and your list seems that you are similar in that way. Your list is different than a lot these favs of all time horror lists. I normally see a lot of the same films on people's list, which I also love, but I love so many more as well. There are many films I would agree with and some that I wouldn't put on my top 50, and that's what great about being a horror fan, diversity in taste. I would also agree with your thriller/horror take. Every film that you labeled horror that others might not, I would agree that they are definitely horror. Some of the best horror of all time for sure on this list. I have never made a fav of all time list of any kind, I don't know if I could narrow it down to be honest because I love so many, within so many sub generes. I also agree that horror films are subjective and very few lists would be the same. I actually say that a lot to people, art is definitely subjective. I also really enjoy horror documentaries, "In Search of Darkness 1&2&3", "Eli Roths History of Horror", "His Name Was Jason", and many many more. I love horror docs almost as much as i love horror films. If you like horror docs, maybe consider making a best of all time horror documentaries list. Id definitely watch it. Anyway, great list, I had to comment because your list is more diverse than most the lists I've seen and I agree with your takes, for the most part. Have a good one man and horror on. 🤘
This is my first introduction to this channel & this RUclipsr. I like all of these pics, although I feel that his definition of a Thriller & a Horror are to basic to understand well. I always thought of a Thriller as something meant to excite you & a Horror as something meant to scare or unsettle you, as opposed to a Thriller being to thrill you & a Horror being meant to horrify you. For me those definitions are too basic for me to comprehend
Here's my top 10 horror/thrillers: 10. Shivers - 1975 9. The Babadook - 2014 8. Don't look now - 1973 7. Taxi driver - 1976 6. The dark and the wicked - 2020 5. Joker - 2019 4. Pet cemetery - 1989 3. Magic - 1978 2. Jacob's ladder - 1990 1. X and Pearl - 2022 Bonus: The machinist - 2004
No arguments regarding his choices here though, top notch as far as the ones I am familiar with go. I can't speak for the ones I haven't seen, but even they look or sound compelling to me
So glad to see that someone likes sleepy hollow like I do. I bought it for ten bucks at a target here and I watched it the next day. The ending weirded me out but I’ve thought on it and I really love it now! :)
Brief PS: Hi Bryan, I too absolutely Love the movie Aliens, & 1 of my Favorite quotes of all times is when Ripley says "Get Away from her you Bitch!"😊♥️
Both you guys didn't include American werewolve in london, the howling, and hellrasier. All three should be in there somewhere. Explain yourself 😆 🤣 I do agree with your list overall more than his.
Fave Horror Films : The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) The Thing (1982) Halloween (1978) A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984) Zombie Flesh Eaters (1979) Day Of The Dead (1985) An American Werewolf In London (1981) Fright Night (1985) The Beyond (1981) The Hitcher (1986) The Evil Dead (1981) Let The Right One In (2008)
I've watched both yours and Cody's list which are both great and have some classic films in there, am surprised with all the elements to explain what is horror that Jaws is not on any list (unless I missed it) this scared the shit out of me when I watched it has to be a horror film IMO 🤔 doesn't mean you have to have on your list though just my opinion
@@chrisgavin2794 I've digested it. Did a video essay on it over on my other channel. If this were a list for best directed and scariest horror films it would be in my top 5. But I hate the ending.
Here's the fifty floors of horror: Jerry Dandridge and his gang of vampires, Samara Morgan, Chucky, Bridgitte and Ginger, a giant crocodile, Patrick Bateman, the animal masked trio, Michael Myers, a bunch of body snatchers, a pack of werewolves, the Creeper, the Critters, a bunch of zombies, Calvin, the Tooth Fairy, another bunch of zombies, the Blind Man and his dog, Sylvia Ganush's demon, Greg Stillson, the Headless Horseman, a ravenous horde of vampires, the Kothoga, Rose the Hat and the True Knot, Candyman, Jesse Hooker and his gang of vampires, Seth Brundle mid-transformation, Lila and Emma Spool, the Vangers, a few eyeless monsters, the Babadook, Michael and a few Xenomorphs, the Follower, Kevin Wendell Crumb as the Beast, John Ryder, the Alien, the Predator, the Thing, Ghostface, Norman Bates, John Doe, Buffalo Bill, Curtis LaForche, the Pale Man, the Xenomorph, the Shimmer bear, Jack Torrance and the Overlook Hotel, Eli, the Zodiac Killer, a few ghosts, and the Xenomorph Queen.
No Conjuring? No Insidious? No Annabelle? I’m 100% sure some of those films are definitely scarier than a lot of those movies on the list. Good list but it’s mind boggling that you or Cody Leach didn’t have any of those as top 50.
This isn't a 'Top 50 "Scariest" Horror Movies' list. As you can see from the title, it's a 'Top 50 "Favourite" Horror Movies' list. There is a big difference between the 2. If this were about scariest then, yes, Conjuring would definitely make the cut. Most likely in my top 10. But it's not one of my favourite movies, for a multitude of reasons.
Stanley kubrick's the shining An american werewolf in london A nightmare on elm street Child's play It follows The omen John carpenter's the thing Bram stoker's dracula Fright night The lost boys John carpenter's halloween Saw the sixth sense Psycho American psycho From dusk till dawn The silence of the lambs John carpenter's vampires Salem's lot Carrie IT Misery Hereditary Get out Midsommar US Drag me to hell Wolf Se7en Interview with the vampire Let the right one in John carpenter's Christine Orphan Geralds game Doctor sleep Pet sematary The girl with the dragon tattoo The last house on the left Eden lake I spit on your grave Rosemary's baby Devil The perfection the invitation Evil dead
Going off of your analogy of the definition of horror. Zodiac is definitely not a horror and it’s not. Zodiac might be “ horrifying “. But it wasn’t tended to horrify nor to scare people. It was telling the true events of a real life killer. Zodiac is a mystery/crime. Maybe a little thriller because of the dark tone and a few of the extra added parts which comes from creativity. But no true story can be considered a horror movie. Horror movies are fiction and are created specifically to scare you
I completely agree about Aliens. I used to go back and forth on whether to include it on horror lists, but decided (like you) that it's pretty much equal sci-fi, horror, and action...so it belongs. Awesome list man 👍🏻

Great list, I would add The Hills Have Eyes 2006 and 30 Days of Night 2007, glad you had 1408 on there, that was one of my favorites. Basket Case 1982 was also great and Bloodrage 1987.

@@BryanLomax I haven't seen the third one in a long time but if i remember correctly it's just as good as the 2nd one. But the first one is absolutely the best.
Take shelter was fantastic. Took me way too long to finally see it but man am I glad I finally did. I’ll just do top 10 cause 50 would be a little boring to scroll though 1. Blackcoats daughter 2. Black Christmas 2019 :) just kidding 1974 3. Suspiria 2019 4. Sinister 5. It follows 6. Ouija origin of evil 7. The conjuring 8. The witch 9. The neon demon 10. Autopsy of Jane doe I’ll throw an honourable mention to hacksaw ridge. That movie really makes you feel how horrifying war is. One more honourable mention to terrifier! Such a deep and intriguing plot with so much to say and fantastic acting performances and the introduction of horrors greatest icon Art The Clown!
Yes, but what are the 50 SCARIEST movies? Not just fun, stylish, thrilling, metaphorical or nostalgic, but actually SCARY. It’s all subjective but scary can stil be identified. All other adjectives aside, what are your 50 SCARIEST movies?
Let the right one in is my number one. I couldn’t believe how compelling it was. But ZODIAC? Did we see the same film. That was a very boring movie which fell apart in the middle and lost its tension it felt diluted horror
Schindler's list horrifies me, the girl in the pink coat. Horrific. Film definitely not a horror film. Not trying to be clever or a dick. It's all open to interpretation and opinion.
Definitely! But for me it's all about how it's weighted. Schindler's list is like 15 percent horror, 85 percent historical war drama. You look at a film like Aliens it's equally weighted in action, sci fi and horror, so it qualifies in all 3 for me.
Hi Bryan, I'm watchin this for the first time at 5:15 am 6/1/23, & so far I've Seen & Liked far More of the horror movies on Your Top 50 list,😊 than I have of Cody Leach's top 50 horror, even tho I've seen way More of His movie & TV reviews overall than of yours. To clarify, I really like Cody's thorough, often funny & Honest way of reviewing, even when he avidly Disagrees w/Popular opinion on certain films (e.g. Cody really likes & defends Rob Zombie's Halloween 2, which most people Hated, & I think was ok but did NOT like Meyers Extreme Brutality w/More gore, etc ). So, recently I found I also really like & appreciate Your style of reviewing movies.😊🩷
Yours and Cody's 'this is just my opinion' disclaimers always make me grin, always done with an air of "I can't believe I live in a world where I feel I have to say this at the start of my vids"
Dude, tell me about it! I hate doin them! Like, c'mon people, common sense! Turns out common sense ain't that common.
Interesting ranking too say the least. Here’s my top 10.

I love that u included Lake Placid. I love that movie. It's probably the best crocodile/alligator film ever made. Life is a very scary movie that is very underrated. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Under the skin was one of the loneliest and saddest movies I’ve seen.

I'm not of the thought process that you *can't* call some of these films horror, they just fit much more snugly into another genre first and foremost.
Great list, Bryan! I do appreciate the variety you and Cody had, including some that I haven't seen but now really want to. I'll admit I thought "Psycho" would make your Top 5 and was surprised the original "Nightmare" wasn't on the list. To each their own though! 😊
Was interesting to see what movies you added that spark debate on whether or not they're horror.
A few movies I expected to be on this list, but didn't show up:
- Hereditary (easily in my top ten of all time)
- Martyrs
- I Saw The Devil
- The Howling
- Event Horizon
- Audition
- Cats (the 2019 remake)
🤣
Just watched Cody's, can't wait to see this list!!
You're gonna have a heartache with my list

I disagree with Annihilation. That movie sucked ass. That is two hours of my life that I'll never get back. It Follows wasn't bad though.

78. The 56 original is very good too but the Donald Sutherland one is the best.
@@BryanLomax ok thanks, ill check that one out first then.

Horror movies are fiction and are created specifically to scare you
What type of music is playing in the background
I completely agree about Aliens. I used to go back and forth on whether to include it on horror lists, but decided (like you) that it's pretty much equal sci-fi, horror, and action...so it belongs. Awesome list man 👍🏻
Awesome!
I agree halloween is in the top 50 just not top 3
Love doctor sleep so much

I always class Jaws as a horror movie.
What do you think about the other movies in the girl with the dragon tattoo series. The Swedish originals I mean.
I still need to watch the third film tbh. Second one was pretty good but definitely not as good as the first.
@@BryanLomax I haven't seen the third one in a long time but if i remember correctly it's just as good as the 2nd one. But the first one is absolutely the best.
@@AFalk86 I do own the boxset which has extended editions of all three films. I need to get on them.
No Exorcist or The Omen in your top 50 horror wowwwwwww.
C. P. Says hi brian
Take shelter was fantastic. Took me way too long to finally see it but man am I glad I finally did.
I’ll just do top 10 cause 50 would be a little boring to scroll though
1. Blackcoats daughter
2. Black Christmas 2019 :) just kidding 1974
3. Suspiria 2019
4. Sinister
5. It follows
6. Ouija origin of evil
7. The conjuring
8. The witch
9. The neon demon
10. Autopsy of Jane doe
I’ll throw an honourable mention to hacksaw ridge. That movie really makes you feel how horrifying war is.
One more honourable mention to terrifier! Such a deep and intriguing plot with so much to say and fantastic acting performances and the introduction of horrors greatest icon Art The Clown!
Now I know you're just messing with me.
@@BryanLomax I'd laugh my ass off if he was being serious 😂
But still a pretty decent list.
Yes, but what are the 50 SCARIEST movies? Not just fun, stylish, thrilling, metaphorical or nostalgic, but actually SCARY. It’s all subjective but scary can stil be identified. All other adjectives aside, what are your 50 SCARIEST movies?
That would be a completely different list.
The music between each movie is ear wrenching
Sad times!
@@BryanLomax made your video unwatchable for me. Thought you should know
That's a bad ass Louis CK Cyborg behind you
Several stages and types of dementia
Without watching the video number one is the shining
You're wrong! 🤣
@@BryanLomax 😂😂
Doctor sleep was great!
Nothing from the Golden age of horror?
the evil dead or cannibal holocaust and terminator not in your top 50. But a lot of quality horror films there.
I understand the argument for Terminator. It's in my top 20 movies of all time. But it has always been more sci-fi action to me than horror.
@@BryanLomax that's fine with me Cody Leach thinks otherwise lol
The Terminator?
Jaws is my favourite horror movie.
It's a great film.
Let the right one in is my number one. I couldn’t believe how compelling it was. But ZODIAC? Did we see the same film. That was a very boring movie which fell apart in the middle and lost its tension it felt diluted horror
Agree to disagree on that one.
Zodiac is a brilliant film
NO, Aliens is not a Horror movie. Defenetely not!
Sure! Because aliens bursting out of people's chests, spitting acid at them, and ripping them in half has nothing to do with horror.
Tell me Halloween H20 was your 51 and I will subscribe.
Err... no.
😂
Schindler's list horrifies me, the girl in the pink coat. Horrific. Film definitely not a horror film. Not trying to be clever or a dick. It's all open to interpretation and opinion.
Definitely! But for me it's all about how it's weighted. Schindler's list is like 15 percent horror, 85 percent historical war drama. You look at a film like Aliens it's equally weighted in action, sci fi and horror, so it qualifies in all 3 for me.
ALIENS👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Under the skin yasssss 😇😇😇😇
U sound like u need water so bad
It’s actually * favorite *
Actually, it's both, depending on what side of the world you are on. Favourite is the correct English while favorite is American English. Google it.
Hey bryan hope you are doing well bud love your content ❤
