- A video highlighting, what I believe, is the most undershot railfanning region in Virginia.
Strasburg, Virginia is a small town in Shenandoah County with a population of 6,617. While the town once received much more train traffic than it does now, CSX and Norfolk Southern still operate one train each into town. This video highlights both of these trains on their respective lines, the CSX Shenandoah Subdivision, and the NS B-Line Extension. Enjoy! - Авто/Мото
My in laws lived here in Strasburg while working with Southern RR as an engineer, has been retired for 33 years now. He used to run steam locomotives before diesel came along, never was trained on the diesel engines. Back in the early ‘80’s I had my picture taken on his unit he ran that day. Love this little town, thanks for sharing and giving some history of Strasburg, Virginia. Great video, I enjoyed watching it very much, Thanks :-))
That K91 chase was haaaaard... Thanks for showing me the ropes out there. Great vid!
When I worked out of Manassas symbol was the E-95, usually a couple of Geeps and it went as far as Edinburg. I held it on vacancies now and then. The press received a lot of cars back then. We live in Strasburg now, and it's nice to see the line still receiving some traffic although for the life of me, I haven't seen an NS train. Hear it, but not seen. Hear CSX local nightly, actually right now I hear it at the junction 8:23pm Tuesday. Good videos, I'll keep posted. Joey Ricard
Nice box cab
When 611 did the Manassas excursions a few years back, I wish they’d brought her to Strasburg. She would have looked great there. But I guess there’s nowhere to turn around past Riverton Junction.
I enjoyed the video thanks for sharing it with us
One southern steam special reached Strasburg in 1979 and now it’s Debating that it should be rail trail or shortline
There was a Y there at the other end past the museum
Is the Strasburg mUseum in The town. Was a Southern RR station and Depot so that’s part of NS
BRAVO!!!!
Southern Railway
Rip the B-line from front royal to strasburg
Very sad indeed!
that GP38-3 is spicy
Do any trains still roll through Strasburg? I've read that some of those tracks were abandoned recently.
Norfolk Southern doesn't run into town anymore, the rails have been cut off in Front Royal - CSX still runs to my knowledge
Good ol standard cabs
They mostly come at night and I live but later I moved
Great video. Do you know if the K91 ever crosses the Route 55/King St crossing? That crossing looks really well maintained, especially for one with little to no activity on it.
The power will occasionally go up that far when they run around the train
Washington District Railfan nice! Sometime I hope you can catch it there if you know when it’s coming.
WICH crossing next to the Southern Railway station (museum)
Southern Railway yup. Years ago I had ice cream just up the street from there at the appropriately named Ice Cream Depot.
I’m talking about museum not the ice cream depot
That last K91, especially, seems a bit overpowered.
It’s a shame not a lot of trains run thru Strasburg, Strasburg has a lot of historic things!
It is a shame. I’ve always been interested in the operations between Front Royal and Harrisonburg, it’s too bad the Broadway to Strasburg section is abandoned.
@@WashingtonDistrictRailfan when was it mothballed?
