The band is: Darren Percival - vox Joe Bonamassa - guitar (produced this album for Mahalia) Franco Raggatt - guitar Lachy Doley - keys Ben Rogers - bass (Mahalia’s partner) Dave Hibbard - drums
As an Australian that grew up with Jimmy Barnes on the radio all the time and loving it, watching your reaction videos has given me an even greater appreciation of his talent. I’m also really glad you have introduced Mahalia to me. I remember when Jimmy’s kids released music as the Tin Lids and I pretty much dismissed them as just kids. But she really has her Dad’s talent! Great post.
I wanted to be a Tin Lid when I was little, I had their Dinosaur CD on repeat, sure my parents regretted buying it at one point. ** Edit: I search Spotify for the album, but Dinosaur Dreaming isn’t available, Snake & Ladders does have “Walk Like A Dinosaur” though 🤷
Love that Mahalia reached out to you! A very talented family. And she's an incredible artist in her own right. Your genuine passion for music and great voices makes these reactions so enjoyable to watch. And we're learning things and finding new appreciation for artists right along with you. 😊
Wow- I knew Mahalia was a singer like her dad but hadn’t ‘sat down’ and listened to her stuff and just wow- I love it! Time to put together a new Spotify playlist I think!
Loved it! Mahalia Barnes is a chip off the old block aka Jimmy! Yes that was Joe B. on the Les Paul guitar, his name is inlaid in the fret board BTW. Glad you are discovering the Aussie and New Zealand Talent. BTW Jimmy Barnes Too Much Aint Enough, with Joe Bonamassa on guitar is Killer too..
I’m pretty certain the background singer is Darren Percival. He was on first season of The Voice Australia years ago and came second. Great singer too! You would love his voice! Joe is on the guitar
Just gotta say, I don't think you realise that the guitarist there is Joe Bonamassa again. :) Mahalia Barnes has a phenomenal voice and yes genes are a major part, but she has also worked hard and trained her voice well. I admire and respect those who combine talent with skill!!
This was a cover. It was originally done in the 70's by Miles Davis's wife Betty Davis. I believe the whole album is Mahalia's version of the record Betty did. Joe on guitar, and production. The Soul Mates are Mahalia's band in Australia. She is the female version of her father. Mahalia has also sung as one of Joe's backup singers on many tours. She's currently (2024) rehearsing in Australia to play Mary Magdalene in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar
I have to admit that I haven't heard this song before myself, it has been cool that you have been discovering Aussie music and now you show me something new.... Amazing song and an awesome singer.... I would be interested if you watched Stevie Wright "Evie parts1,2,3" considered at the time Australias Bohemian Rhapsody it goes for about 11 mins
checkout an Oz artist called Tones and I with Dance Monkey and Fly Away she was busking two years ago in Brisbane and she is now the owner and writer of the MOST streamed song in the world (Dance Monkey) and her song Fly Away has been used by Qantas to sell travel, she don't need to busk no more
Yeah it's Darren Percival, who was runner up on the first The Voice Australia. He was runner up to Karise Eden, who you've reacted to before and you loved her. You seriously need to do some more Karise. She has one of the best voices on the planet.
Not her husband singing, her husband is a Bass player I think. Definitely Joe on the guitar. Another great reaction! I can’t wait to see you react to all The Barnes’ together!!!!!!
Mahalia is from Aussie Music Royalty, Her dad is Jimmy Barnes, Her Uncles are Swanee and Diesel, ( You need to listen to Both Swanee and Johnny Diesel and the Injectors), And All her siblings sing also. From David Campbell all the way to Elly-May Barnes. THE WHOLE FAMILY IS AWSOME
OK. So you have checked out Jimmy and daughter Mahalia... Now you need to check out his grand daughter... Singing with her mum!! It's called "little light" and she is AMAZING to. Her name is Ruby.
Nick you gotta watch Jimmy Barnes ‘Working class boy’ doco. You’ll get A great idea of where Jimmy came from and why he and his family are so tight despite everything. You don’t have to react to it but do yourself a favour.
Yep, that's unmissable for anyone to watch, not just fans of Barnes, or even music in general, great story about overcoming a rotten upbringing and the ensuing personal demons
What a great song. You really need to check out Darren Percival. He did his part here as a back up singer.. You wait til you here his soulful voice up front. He is unreal!
This is from Mahalia's tribute album to American funk singer Betty Davis. You need to react to some of her stuff because she was the bomb! I suggest starting with her song, F.U.N.K. and the working back from there.
Joe Bonamassa on guitar. Lachie Doley on whammy clavinet. Lachy has been dubbed the Hendrix of the Hammond. He has a developing solo career and many collaborations. He played on Glenn Hughes last solo album. If you don’t know Glenn Hughes (Trapeze, Deep Purple, Dead Daisys etc..) - he is the ‘voice of rock’ - possibly one of the greatest rock singers / bass players of all time and guess what ? Glenn has also played with Jimi Barnes.
I had to comment again... this girl is FIRE 🔥 You nailed it Dude ! I love love love her voice and her collaboration with Joe Bonamassa....I believe she's one of his backup singers . Correct me if I'm wrong but either way I'd crawl through a Damn Blizzard just to hear her sing .
If you want to hear somebody “screaming” and singing for their lives, watch Devin Townsend singing “Kingdom”. And also under quarantine, he sings the song called “why?”
Fantastic Betty Davis cover (Queen of funk don't get enough love) Mahalia definitely seems like a chip off the old block! You need to check out Betty Davis!!
The band is:
Darren Percival - vox
Joe Bonamassa - guitar (produced this album for Mahalia)
Franco Raggatt - guitar

It's a cover of a Betty Davis song. Mahalia did a whole album of Betty Davis songs. It's great.
David Campbell also reached out for Reaction Video watching “Today Extra” but the show was sadly cancelled before anyone knew it was broadcast 😂
Listen to Vika and Linda Bull
Love this, I knew you would love Mahalia. I’m not 100% sure but I think her husband is the guy on the couch.

Well well looks like I'm losing my mind again this morning. Mahalia Barnes is one of the best . That's Joe Bonamassa playing the guitar .
