@@KleWdSide Bullshit. She already adressed this in an interview a couple of days after it this very performance and said that she way deeply honoured and touched that a great song writer like Springsteen would cover her song.
She has every reason to be proud. She wrote a great great song. A song that a 45y/o heavy metal guy like me likes to sing along. And Springsteen being one of my childhood’s biggest heroes - this is just beautiful.
The 70's are in they own way a golden age... today day we're living in a generation of covid, social media and deformed reality. So in a way he's trying to save the today's generation by saying you can be cool too if you try...silly stupid beautiful kids.

So yeah, for some people, they'd never truly "get" the song if it isn't played in a certain way, a certain style, a certain aesthetic that they associate with the themes of the song, the expression of the art.
@@Quoxozistyes!! Think about all the people from his generation who discovered the song through Bruce. I’m young so I got tired of the song since it was played too much. But his interpretation renewed my appreciation for it and I prefer this honestly.
Made even better by the slight smirk during the "I'm in love with being King" line. He knows he's the best, no matter how modest he acts. No one can touch him.
She could learn more than a thing or two. Haha. With Bruce, you got someone that has been considered the best live entertainer there is for 40 years...and was considered the best live entertainer in NJ and VA until he really hit. Someone could watch him all their life and not learn anything, you just become more and more amazed at how good he is.
Hell, Ella's is only 18, and she already has the greats doing covers. Might need to give yourself an upper cut there Greg. ps Dave Grohl is raving about her too.
What no comment here seems to realize is...the lyrics of this song talks about a character very very very similar to the characters that Mr.Springsteen wrote since his very beggining in his body of work. It make the whole sense at all that he sings this song the way he does. And yes...The Boss is The King Bee! Hail the King!
I would have never thought of this combination, but if you think about it, this song does kind of fit in with Bruce's whole working class vibe. Makes sense.
Songs exist to be sung. The greatest tribute one artist can do for another - is to perform her song. All that crap about who did it the best - just the heartless tuneless noise of lazy minds who can only appreciate it one way and wax negative about “what’s best.” There is no way Lorde wouldn’t be honored. He sang it with heart. Who cares whether it is as good or who did it better. How simple and flat minded. Just to spit out a little negativity. A little turd of an opinion. It is her song - she should do it better but his version is powerful. He was paying tribute- why put him down for that. Ah just more misery...
I've been loving Springsteen for thirty-five years, and he's kept giving me more to love and think about all that time. Music is deeply deeply personal. A song you love is yours. An artist who speaks to you you'll defend fiercely. I think that's because we're so lonely and deprived of our own love and joy and freedom and purpose. So I absolutely get a young Lorde fan who wants to fight off this stranger like he's a burglar. But here's what we love about Bruce and about this cover. He cares about it. He finds the heart of the thing. He finds the heart of everything--he don't give a damn for just the in betweens. Take a tour of his cover versions. He doesn't learn the chords and do the song. He gets inside it, looks in all its corners and finds its heart, then he wrings every last drop of life out of it. Here are good songs he made unforgettable: Dylan's I Want You, Detroit Medley, Quarter to Three, Sinatra's Angel Eyes, Mona, Lonesome Train, The Animals' It's My Life, Tom Waits' Jersey Girl, Dream Baby Dream, Give My Love to Rose, I Hung My Head. And that's just off the top of my head. So hold tight to the music and artists you need. And at the same time remember you're not alone and neither are the artists. The music brings us together. Peace,
Exactly! Bruce is the best at doing covers bc they are always songs he LOVES and often that really mean something to him! His cover of "It's My Life" is so amazing bc it meant something so personal to him that was beyond what the song was written about. I think what is such a huge compliment to Lorde is that he chose to sing this song acoustic so that the lyrics were front and center, bc he thinks they should be heard!! And every Springsteen fan immediately gets why he loves this song, it is about the same thing he's been writing about since he was her age. So cool that he did that.
Good God is this a GREAT COVER! He sells the song, every word of it, Bruce's gravelly but expressive voice bringing out both what is both risible and poignant about the Lorde song's wannabe-wealthy ghetto dwellers. Springsteen's no-look guitar strums at the end remind us all how the E Street band was a well-oiled machine of virtuoso musicianship. "Born to Run" is still the quintessential American rock album, opening as it does with the glorious poem-bomb "Thunder Road."
Bruce would not cover crap obviously he has some respect for the lyrics that 16 yr old girl wrote - The man is a master of lyrics just listen to blinded by the light - He obviously gets whats she is saying - I don't I honestly think its over my head and that's ok I still enjoy it and of course Bruce made it his own.
I don’t know. The guy can cover anything and do anything and make it work. Believe me, I’d be worried about the cringe factor but it probably wouldn’t be totally bad. He’s already done and released sample heavy and songs with “hip hop” beats. “Missing”, “Rocky Ground”, and even “Streets of Philadelphia”.
Something to consider: Bruce is notorious for forgetting the lyrics to his own songs. He's a slave to having the lyrics telepromptered. He sang this song (which is lyrically complex) WITH HIS EYES CLOSED. This was an act of mad respect. Game recognizing game.
