I don’t think I have a single idea of what I’m doing when it happens but this was super helpful and a great starting point for me. Thank you very much.
I would recommend staying away from big cities. Find a place in the county where you can park so you don't have to deal with the large crowds. Another reason to stay awary from the large crowds is once the event is over everyone is going to leave at the same time. I live in Louisville so I'm going to drive about a 100 miles so I can get 100% totality.
Also, prepare yourself to be mobile! You never know when the clouds are going to show up and spoil the fun.
I also live in Louisville, my family and I are up near Indianapolis for the totality
Looking forwards to your images Mallory and wishing you all clear sky's. 📷
Wow, totally amazing! Thank you for the info. Enjoy!
Great wee video Mallory, wishing you all the very best & clear skies for this. By pure luck this Kiwi is going to be in the States (NYC) on the day, so of course I'm going to be set up somewhere in Central Park hoping for clear skies.
All the best & can't wait to see your post eclipse video.
Thank you for sharing 🥰💐🥰😊
Excellent tutorial!
Great breakdown of what to do!
Excellent tutorial. To the point. I will be checking the weather forecast 3-4 days before the event and will drive to the nearest pockets of high pressure along the path.
I’m honestly trying not to even think about the weather 🫣 but you’re exactly right! Great call! Wishing you a great eclipse!
Great video and I too echo Mallory's advice; PRACTICE! I too shoot Milky and the moon and shooting the sun's different. I realized today during my practice session to focus on the moon's leading edge if you don't see any sunspots. The sun moves surprising fast across your frame so check it each shot unless using a tracker. Hope everyone's under clear skies and enjoys the experience.
Great video! I learned a few tips and I am looking forward to April 8th! My wife and I will be in Little Rock. Sending out good photo vibes for the day to all.
Next one (kinda) in North America is Greenland/Iceland in August 2026! See everyone there- going to try to finally photo it. Need to do some $$$hopping!
I was going to buy this specific filter anyway so I'll use your link since its the same price for me either way.
If you don’t have a lens with a lock, gaff tape is your friend! I always have a mini roll in my camera bag.
Excited to finally get some pics of the ring of fire. I got a lot of flack for not capturing it back in 2017... because I procrastinated and I didn't plan or get the proper gear.
Great video! You put 2 difference ND filters in the description, which one do you recommend for this event?
I came for the info... But I stayed for the bloopers! 😂🤣😆
nice tutorial :) thanks! other photographers on RUclips recomend using ND filters that alsco come with UV and infrared protection. the ones you recomend come with that protection too?
This will be so dope! How do you set up the star tracker in the day with the North Star visible?
Hey Mal !!!! You and I have the same lens!!!!!! One thing you may have forgot was use a cable release on the camera.
She showed her intervalometer.
Do you recommend the 100000 or the 1000000?
Awesome! Got almost the same kit (A7IV and Sigma 150-600). Unfortunately, I am in Europe .... 😞
Question the filter is 95mm but isn’t the lens 105mm diameter? Did u use step down rings ?
Im in the area of full totality. I have a smartphone very basic camera. Its a 120 dollar phone with 1080p at 30FPS, its nothing compared
to the stuff you have. Is there any tips I can use, can I still film when the sun goes behind the moon ? Im dealing with some cheap gear.
Im probably gonna get a lot of blurry or grainy picture.
Mallory, that was a great tutorial about the partial eclipse phases. And I loved your bloopers reel at the end! However, you literally say nothing about photography during the most critical phase of the eclipse - totality, when you should be shooting a large group of photos at various shutter speeds and ISO's in order to capture the corona. Your light meter will not be much good there, you just need to shoot a slew of photos from 1/100th of a second all the way down to a 60th of a second for a ball head, and then ramp up your ISO to keep that shutter speed still 1/60th but get out to 3200 ISO to capture the fringes of the solar corona. If you get that tracking head polar aligned, then you can go with much longer shutter speeds and not need to jack up the ISO past 400 or so.
Every time I try to do this I get the shots set up everything is ready and a stupid ufos keep getting in my way and stealing my shot How do you get them to stop doing that?
What camera setting is used for Diamond/Bailey beads picture ?
I will definitely be bracketing!! Probably 5 exposures to make sure i grab options!
Question about bracketing. My Canon will only do a maximum of seven stops, so I can’t cover the whole range of 1/1000 to 2 sec needed to capture the bright and faint details, so I’m planning on taking one set and then changing my middle exposure time and taking another. Are you doing this also and if so, what midpoints are you using?
she didn't talk about shutter speed......
