New subscriber here. I’m a 35 year old, 5’6” 130lb 4 tip blue belt. I also happen to have a 5’10” 195lb BJJ Black Belt older brother, Randy Melton (under Danny Dring, Team LDMA in Arkansas). This is exactly the content I’ve been looking for. Thank you!! 🙏
Ok - no problem with technique or skill but we start this tutorial process with a scenario that only applies to rolling in training. What purpose does the sitting technique serve in some type of competition scenario whether sportive or more serious as far as attack potential goes ?
Awesome tips man! Addressing the immediate dangers a big guy can put you in before they come in and smash your ribs to pieces. I like to have at least one foot pushing on their hips at all times to maintain distance. The problem is when the bigger guy invites you to come in and attack. Being a smaller guy on top isn't as effective as defending on the bottom. Any advice?
Personally I prefer to put gravity back on my side opposed to being stuck underneath them for prolonged periods. If you can’t get the sub it’s still a win in my book if you can maintain the top and control.
@@DavidvsGoliathBJJ hey coach, thanks for taking the time to answer. I'm 5'6 and 135lbs. Most of the guys in my gym are around 6' and 200lbs. I always have a hard time maintaining mount even when they give it to me. It's easy for them to use their strength to sweep me, and when they get me in their guard it's devastating for my ribcage. What strategy is most efficient for this situation?
Great tips as always! Would you consider making a video about takedowns for smaller vs bigger opponent? I seem to find this more challenging from the knees than from standing, for whatever reason.
@@DavidvsGoliathBJJ from knees. I haven't seen much on RUclips about this, even though most sparring starts from there. I find it harder to outmanoeuvre someone when I'm shuffling around on knees, and also struggle to ankle pick unless they happen to be in combat base position.
@@pandabear7444 my rule of thumb from the knees is try to go for a collar tie and snap down, if that doesn’t work after one minute I always coach my students to just pull guard because wrestling from the knees is unrealistic
@@DavidvsGoliathBJJ that's a good idea! You're right, it always feels awkward and unrealistic. Thanks, I'll apply that philosophy next training session
Look up Adam Wardzinski he’s a long lanky guy that plays butterfly very well. That might help. My legs are short so I may not have the advice you need for that particular position
The technique at 5:41 is horrible... if the guy turn his weight over your knee you will give yourself a wrist lock and you will have no time to defend it... The other ones are really cool and effective.

Oss solid techniques. All I play is butterfly and I definitely find myself in these same spots when rolling with bigger guys.
Thanks Ben 🙏🏻
That elbow on the ground frame/pillar thing was genius. I have never seen that before. Thanks.
Works like a charm 🍀
@@DavidvsGoliathBJJ You're not worried about the big guy lunging in and as your elbow is anchored on the mat, your bent wrist goes 'Crack'?
Thank you so much for your little guy jiu jitsu contributions
My pleasure Josh 🤙🏻
Great pointers! Thank you from a 145 lb., 73 yo white belt.

Just for clarity, you wanna see takedowns from standing? Or starting from the knees?

OSs. Great stuff
These just seems like good fundamentals to have in general tbh
But either way good isht
hes a black belt nowww!!!
what happens if you shoot your feet to his hip n then he grabs your anklkes?
I usually try to go for arm drag if opponent grabs my legs
We have a 400 lb student that pretty much just crushes as his main tactic. Trying to find content that shows how to escape 400+ lbs.
At what point do you become considered a big guy?
There’s no bench Mark really.. I’d say a big guy is anyone close to 50lb heavier than you are. It’s all relative
How tall are you?
I saw that BJJ is not for short guys 5”0-
5”5
You seem like you know what to do!
As a lanky skinny guy, I unfortunately cannot relate because I have no strength. My body type doesn't permit me to butterfly guard
Look up Adam Wardzinski he’s a long lanky guy that plays butterfly very well. That might help. My legs are short so I may not have the advice you need for that particular position
What about when the big guy is stalling grabbing both your lapels inside your guard?
Punch him in the face
👊🏻
👊
Butterfly guard in 2021? Really?
What does this comment even fucking mean?
😑

Not really your putting your palm there at worst youd knee yourself in the hand
