Im 230 lbs and there aren’t alot of big guys like me in my gym so I focus purely on technique and not using my strength or my size as an advantage. This gets me plenty of reps with smaller guys/gals in higher belts. I’ve been getting tapped alot but Im still learning.
This is the way. You will get more reps in so you'll build more cardio and get more and better feedback. Your taps/mistakes will be ingrained in your mind so you will make less of them. You'll think more clearly because you're not gassed out from using your strength.
Im 6”3’ 216 lbs. Second day of BJJ, big fat 260 lbs purple belt told me “fight like a small guy. Don’t rely on your size. Small guys whoop ass.” He was right!
Idk how I stumbled onto your gold mine of a channel but here I am. Keep it up, you roll like you have the experience of a very high level blue belt or even a purple belt.
You have an awesome foundation. I am a newly promoted blue belt, but can tell I have long way to go to get to your blue belt level. I am a Marcelo Garcia, Neil Melanson, Silver Fox and Andrew Wilste fan, so I use a lot of their techniques in escapes. I do have to get better at unerstanding leg locks and knee line. I am cognizant of them and haven't yet got caught in one, but I always respect when my partner goes after some sort of 50/50 or foot hold. Great content. I noticed a technique used by Karel Pravec (Silver Fox) that you can get quite a bit and it is the shotgun arm bar. You had it several times when you get side control as their arm is trapped between their head and your near side leg.
Thanks man I appreciate the kind words. I actually do go for the shotgun armbar sometimes and you’re right it was definitely open a few times during the roll
@@JoshRichBJJ with leg locks do you try to control at least one leg? And, with the knee line do you try to get your knee passed their hips or better yet their butt?
@@guam58 There are different leg lock positions that require different defenses, when I'm escaping ashi (single leg x) or double outside ashi I try controlling at least one leg to break their control and to stop them from re attacking. But I don't do that for honey hole( inside senkaku) for example. With the knee line I just try to get it so that my knee isn't between their legs, so basically passed their hips. Hope that makes sense
@@JoshRichBJJ yes definitely our gym is known for leglocks, but have been concentrating in my defense, sweeps and pinning control. I have a very good straight ankle lock, but am slowly getting around to heel hooks. I am just learning about the defense of leg locks, so like to get different persepctives.
Shout out to 'Big Josh'.... really nice roll from both players and I feel though he could have, he didn't use his size/strengh advantage (and was also clearly playing with a stomach injury). Enjoying the content from you 'Little Josh' ;). Keep it up.
I would like more fights with commentary and your genuine opinions as well as your sense humor. Essentially what you are doing rn with your videos. It’s great.
Man, you have a great game.. you don't seem a normal blue, you're a beast. I like that transition you hit from the arm bar setup to reverse triangle. 👌
When you train at 10th planet your just taught by the best i wish i had the opportunity to train there i train but not at 10th planet i wanna move somewhere where i can be close to a great gym
What you initially had was a yoko sankaku/side triangle at 1:50. When he bridges up to defend, I think you're supposed to switch to gyaku sankaku/inverted triangle.
Hello Josh from Spain am 46 years old 73 kilos who just started nogi if you can what is your best advice for a white belt and the best defense? Thank you... Oh see you in the near future in Europe championship 🥋
i just watched again, even if u say ur safe, i think he hurt u on his first leg attack, even if he didnt get the knee line im pretty sure u felt it the next day, that's what it felt watching it altough i think u have a brown belt level at least i loved ur north south escape, and the armbar defense of ur oponent was stuning
I'd like to see some specific skills to use against larger opponents. I'm around your weight and shorter. And the big guys get tired and lay on me hahahaha
I rolled with a 5'5 120 lb woman last night. I'm a 6 ft 255 lb man. I basically let her practice all of her passes on me while applying half strength on her.
I do, specially when they use their weight to purposely injure you. I remember this lady that because she couldn’t pass my guard, she literally put all her weight on my neck. 😩 I told her “ you need to be mindful, we don’t want to injure our training partners”. I roll with bigger guys and they never do that.
Question. I been tryna get into bjj. I’ve done some classes but I still don’t know too much. Should I watch matches online even though I don’t know what’s going on sometimes? Would I benefit?
are you stil technically a white belt? thats crazy man I was a green belt 4 years ago and Ive come back after finding a good work/life balance and im starting back as a white belt i feel liek maybe Im cheating a little lol but anyways I love your jiujitsu bro keep making the good vids !
I believe that the talent/intelligence aspect of Bjj is vastly overlooked. Some people just have a natural grappling intuition that some people will never posses no matter how long they train. Combat sports are part of a selection of a few sports where you can have beginners excel to world class level in a very limited time. Not sure why this is the case but I do know for sure, some people just have IT
You look a bit better in this video than you did in that Naga video. But, you still don't look high level at all, not you or the guy you're rolling with actually. And tbh the tips you're giving are not really good at all. Keep training you have lots of room for improvement. Godspeed
Why aren't the tips good? What needs improvement? Are you just trying to seem knowledgeable? This isn't constructive and a simple glance at the neighboring comments from much better people than yourself are proof. Keep deluding yourself that you're an athlete, bud.
I'm just checking in before you become a world champ.
Me too. This young man looks like a prodigy.
Maybe B.J. Penn the second.
this guy is brazy wit it
Yup he’s pretty good. Hide your girlfriend

I am 230 too. I realise i coudnt sparr with any of my friends. So i took 3 months to loose those 30 pounds. I recomend it.

Dude, I love the editing and the commentary here! This is awesome, thank you MegaJosh
I've tapped because my "Stomach Hurt" it's usually when I'm exhausted hahaha

I am my self a judo guy but i really like to watch your videos. There is a lot to be learned here even for judo.
When rolling with the big fish knees and legs are your friends
I feel you being the only guy in the gym at 150
Fun challenge to be honest
Word rolling with bigger people really can be a fun challenge
Wow I'm a blue belt too but I nothing compared to you on understanding of transitions like you do. Amazing
The upper right dude at 4:58 is vibes, me just contemplating why I even roll after getting smashed for 9 rounds
😂😂
Buddy, Im a blue belt and no where near how good you are. This is nuts
All about hard work man

The commentary on rolls is great! Thank you. Please keep them coming
I’d love to hear other josh’s commentaries
i came across your video when i was watching mma , very good tutorials on grappling . became a fan of your channel, good stuff god bless ..
Your videos are funny! You’ve got a great sense of humor, brother!
Literally last night, I (145) tried a triangle on a dude (200) and he pressured me so hard it forced my knee into my own head lol
Dude! Great! Your thought process is amazing
Man, you have a great game.. you don't seem a normal blue, you're a beast. I like that transition you hit from the arm bar setup to reverse triangle. 👌
I love your videos Bro. You explain well, and keep things interesting. I'll continue to watch and learn. Thanks again!
I appreciate the commentary. Great to listen too as a new white belt.
Amazing content as always 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾please keep loading more awesome content with great commentary💯💯💯

Yeah it’s a known fact
Agree, lol.

I want to be in one of your videos 😂😂😂 whenever u trying to show off let me know lol
Will do haha
the wholesome ending with the belly ache lol
Dude How long have you been training JiuJitsu and How many days a week do you train?
That blue belts just holds your gi, your skills speak otherwise 🙏🏻
You mentioned you’re blue belt? Awesome awareness and technique, very impressive 💪
U going up Fr fr
back flips away lmao XD
You remind me of myself a year or two ago. I would add bolos and crab rides to defend these heel hooks that's where the sport is going.
Josh’s Jiu Jitsu is amazing.
Literal Goat
No u
Didn’t know you rolled there. Subbing for my 10th planet brother!
you had me subbed at 'paused for dramatic effect'
You know us big guys and our tummy-wummels.
Hello Josh from Spain am 46 years old 73 kilos who just started nogi if you can what is your best advice for a white belt and the best defense? Thank you... Oh see you in the near future in Europe championship 🥋
Great match bro!! How you get so good as a blue belt?
Hey, sweet vid. Are you guys going full on or holding back a bit?
Good transitions!
this was amazing, thanks!
Man, do I hate...um, I mean, respect, smaller, faster and strong people on the mat. 😊
3:25 is hilarious lol
Well done, loved it.

I'd like to see some specific skills to use against larger opponents. I'm around your weight and shorter.
And the big guys get tired and lay on me hahahaha
I needed this! Lol
Have u ever done an absolute division?
I haven’t but I want to soon
@JoshRichBJJ big inspiration bro, I'm only a white belt and afraid to do my first absolute division haha, I can't even imagine at blue belt level
Great roll
um your jiu jitsu is beautiful
Lol thank you my dude!
@@JoshRichBJJ no doubt fam. your vids are just as creative. you got a bright future and i hope it includes not working for anyone but yourself
wow great job. im like a buck twenty, went up against a 200lber, it was terrible
Awesome
why didn't you switch triangle sides to get him in a reverse triangle you had him. 1:57:) Awesome stuff
Dude, round 1 what did you finish with
Thanks bro

Squash in the city
I wanna see you fix your glasses🙂. Great roll.
Im 6'-4" at 175 and get smashed by the bigger guys at my gym. Love it and hate it :) Love these kinds of vids. Cheers.
How is this even possible ? I'm 5.8 at 185 and im not even big :O

where there is a big white belt there is always a small mat enforcer ready to smessh
Lol homies a blue belt in this video but one of his more recent videos he is a white belt
Yes. People can get promoted
@@erickrodriguez2813 lol people don’t get demoted is what he’s saying lol
Very cool🤙
Does 3:18 happen often? Funny how they both got back into positions after that
Good roles! What belt are you?
Thanks! I’m a blue belt
Question. I been tryna get into bjj. I’ve done some classes but I still don’t know too much. Should I watch matches online even though I don’t know what’s going on sometimes? Would I benefit?
Yeah I think you should, I would as a white belt and I definitely did learn some things even if it was just subconsciously
@@JoshRichBJJ thanks man. advice will be taken and was greatly appreciated
why heelhook at the blue belt level its not really allowed in competition anyway
i think if he had bend ur knee the two times he tried k guard entries at the end he would have leg locked u
Out of curiosity, how tall are you ?
Btw Your content is solid. Learning a lot as I watch. You got a new subscriber in me.
Great video my man
I forgot to ask, also about how tall is the guy your rolling with ?
I’m 5’8 and he’s about 6ft

is this judo or jui jitsu i have no idea but looks fun
1:54 😦
Let’s go, lads!
What happened to your glasses?
I’m 160. Every dude in my gym is minimum 100 Lbs heavier than me.
A few days ago I had to roll with a guy who's 240 pounds (I think, I couldn't hear him that well).... I'm only 95.5
So it's a 10th planet gym? But no one's doing rubber guard?
I wanna get the taste of it.
I'm the big guy
