کچھ تو احساسِ زیاں تھا پہلے
دل کا یہ حال کہاں تھا پہلے
اب تو جھونکے سے لرز اٹھتا ہوں
نشّۂ خوابِ گراں تھا پہلے
یوں نہ گھبراۓ ہوۓ پھرتے تھے
دل عجب کنجِ اماں تھا پہلے
اب بھی تو پاس نہیں ہے لیکن
اس قدر دور کہاں تھا پہلے
غم نے پھر دل کو جگایا ناصر
خانہ برباد کہاں تھا پہلے

اُس طرف چشمہ رواں تھا پہلے
اب وہ دریا، نہ وہ بستی، نہ وہ لوگ
کیا خبر کون کہاں تھا پہلے
ہر خرابہ یہ صدا دیتا ہے
میں بھی آباد مکاں تھا پہلے
اُڑ گۓ شاخ سے یہ کہہ کے طیور
سرو ایک شوخ جواں تھا پہلے
کیا سے کیا ہو گئ دنیا پیارے
تو وہیں پر ہے جہاں تھا پہلے
ہم نے آباد کیا ملکِ سخن
کیسا سنسان سماں تھا پہلے
ہم نے بخشی ہے خموشی کو زباں
درد مجبورِ فغاں تھا پہلے
ہم نے ایجا کیا تیشۂ عشق
شعلہ پتھّر میں نہاں تھا پہلے
ہم نے روشن کیا معمورۂ غم
ورنہ ہر سمت دھواں تھا پہلے
ہم نے محفوظ کیا حسنِ بہار
عطرِ گل صرفِ خزاں تھا پہلے
اب تو منزل بھی ہے خود گرمِ سفر
ہر قدم سنگِ نشاں تھا پہلے
سفرِ شوق کے فرسنگ نہ پوچھ
وقت بے قیدِ مکاں تھا پہلے
یہ الگ بات کہ غم راس ہے اب
اس میں اندیشۂ جاں تھا پہلے

My father passed away last year at the age of 98 in Indore. He used to speak so highly of her. I had never heard her before. Thanks to RUclips and kind people like you, who have uploaded this recording, that I could hear this gem. ❤🙏
She is in a league of her own. It is unfortunate she didn't get the recognition she deserved internationally. I happened to hear about her after Jamia protest. What a class! One of the greatest singers in the subcontinent...!
