While only having to sadistically hunt, torture, and kill dozens of other children; Knowingly torture and kill other innocents (Elodie's father repeatedly shouted to the dragon he came only to save his daughter, which should of tipped off the dragon that Elodie wasn't of the line it hated, it even used the connection to her father to try and draw Elodie out as it slowly tortured the father to death); and incinerate a castle full of servants and minor nobles that had no power to go against it or the royal family. Great morals.

Idk radically accepting Mediocre media just because we are severely missing out on the genre and are just anemic for it at this point will just mean they’ll continue to push out low quality stuff, if we will mindlessly consume it.
I want my epic female historical fantasies just as much as the next person, but I rather go without if the product they’re trying to give me is cynical, lazy and patronizing towards its audience.
If you told me chatgbt wrote the dialogue I’d believe you.
I’ll give them flowers for the lovely costumes and dragon design, but i can’t trick myself into liking something that leans on style over substance.

    • @surette2012

@@zoeshaclarke8315 it’s a shame. You can’t be critical anymore in fair bounds without being accused of being nit-picky or doing so in bad faith. You can’t even say something is just the middle of the road and average. You have to love it or not say anything. They assume I’m not letting people enjoy or have fun. If people like it more power to them. I like my fair share of ‘bad media’.
Bad media, and mediocre writing is inevitable. Filmmakers and writers have to learn and grow somehow. I don’t think these mediocre projects should have 100 million + dollar budgets, however.
If you’re making a big epic it has no room for juvenile writing or rewrites requested by marketing teams. It’s disrespectful to the hardworking filmmakers and assistants showing up everyday to make your uninspired media.
I’ve never seen a more tonally confused film, that wants to be perceived as mature with gore and a sadistic dragon, but the dialogue is so formulaic and childish.

I liked this movie a ton! My only complaint is we didn't get enough dialogue bc most of it was Elodie keeping quiet bc she didn't want the dragon to hear her. But what would have made this an even better movie if the girl from the night before was still alive. Like severely wounded, but Elodie helped her and they work together to get out. Then at the end when they save the last girl from getting married and sacrificed as well, you got all three sacrifices defying the queen. In my humble opinion, I think that would have made the movie even better.
But I still think the critics were too harsh on this movie. Millie was amazing taking a character we don't get to see talk a lot during the most important parts of the movie, and still show case just what she wanted to say and made you feel the distress that Elodie was feeling

It’s funny to me how people have an issue with the kingdom saying there’s no way neighbors wouldn’t have realized what was going on or would have questioned it/put stop to it when in real life women have literally been sacrificed with their families knowing full well they’d die. Henry the VIII much?

it was fine, I personally have a lot of issues with the pacing and a lot of dangling plot threads that are left unaddressed but it was a really cool concept and I liked it as a movie to watch with my sister

This movie is amazing like yes the writing is bit how you doing and like you know the plot within four minutes but like yes it’s amazing and I actually still enjoyed it like even if I guessed things I was still bit shook of the story but the elements all together I love

I watched this film yesterday with my mom who already watched it. At the start of the movie I was throwing the theories and I was so right 😂 but I ended up really liking the movie. I feel the film had good flow, it didn’t get boring and Millie was able to carry the film too.
