Alessandra Ferri & Massimo Murru in Giselle's grand pas de deux and finale (act II) - La Scala 1996

  • Patrice Bart's choreography for the Teatro alla Scala in Milan alludes to the original by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot, who had created it for the Paris Opera ballet company. The costumes and sets by Angelo Sala, reconstructions of those designed by Alexandre Benois at the beginning of the 20th century for Sergei Diaghilev and his "Ballets russes", succeed in evoking the unique flair of the originals. The orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala under Paul Conelly interpret Adolphe Adam's colourful score masterfully and in perfect correlation with the magical images presented on stage.

    ACT II
    Giselle has been buried deep in the forest and has now become a wili. The wilis are ghostly apparitions of folklore, girls who have died betrayed by their faithless lovers on the eve of their weddings.
    Hilarion is discovered mourning at Giselle’s grave. Myrtha, Queen of the Wilis, summons her maidens, who haunt the forest, luring wayfarers to dance with them until they die from exhaustion before the dawn. Hilarion is forced to dance until he dies.
    Albrecht, full of remorse, comes to mourn at Giselle’s grave. The Queen commands Giselle to come from her grave and entice Albrecht to join her in dance. Giselle continues dancing with Albrecht through the night. Although she has been betrayed by Albrecht, Giselle still loves him, and helps him to stay alive until the dawn, when the wilis lose their power and will not be able to destroy him.
    With the arrival of the dawn, Giselle vanishes back into her grave, and Albrecht is left alone with his sorrow. But his life is saved.

    I love how she keeps her petit allegro movements small and discreet - she's not showing off height in the jumps or trying to be spectacular - she's letting the character drive her movements, not the other way around like so many of today's ballerinas.

    Une merveille. Alessandra Ferri, Prima Ballerina Assoluta aux yeux immenses, séduit par sa fragilité, sa technique, son interprétation. Massimo MURRU est émouvant, passant du jeune séducteur à l’ homme conscient de son erreur devant le corps inerte de la toute jeune fille qu’il vient de tuer. Le deuxième Acte nous plonge dans la forêt peuplée des Esprits vengeurs, les Willis, dont Myrtha ( Isabel Seabra, extraordinaire dans son rôle d’Esprit tueur sans pitié) tente tout pour faire périr le Prince d’épuisement.
    Mise en scène magnifique, la Scala au sommet de cet Art. Merci.

    Angelica ed elegante....una grandissima interprete...! Grande interprete anche Murru. È eccezionale l'espressività del suo volto...mi commuove Alessandra e Murru è magnetico

    La più grande interprete, dopo la Divina Fracci Alessandra è qualcosa di splendido. Stupenda e perfetta nei movimenti con una drammaticità incredibile nel volto e nel corpo. FIRMIDABILE!!‼️ Dopo averla vista, come si può guardare le altre interpreti?

    Какой же прекрасный Массимо в Жизели Как он танцует Как проживает драму Что за артист Величайший Какие прекрасные длинные руки, стройная высокая шея Как идёт ему эта роль Нет более чувственного, трепетного Альберта Невероятно гибкий, со своей прекрасной пластикой Как вдохновенно воспринимает образ Огромное спасибо за это видео Ферри тоже очень хороша

    Обожаю эти сцены, преклоняюсь перед хореографией Ферри и нет слов, как восхищаюсь мастерством Массимо Мурру Кажется, что нельзя танцевать лучше и выразительнее Массимо Мурру исключительный танцовщик Он чародей танца Колоссально сильный танцовщик, на грани какого то необыкновенного мастерства

    Wonderful to see that in this production Giselle slowly descends down into her grave, unlike in some productions Giselle simply drifts off stage, which isn’t as effective dramatically.

      Totally agree! Not all theaters, though, have the mechanism to do that... unfortunately. Every Giselle I danced (when I was still dancing) except one, had Giselle drift off stage. I never liked that at all.
