Ordering at a Mexican Restaurant on a Carnivore/Keto Diet

  • This was my first time at On the Border and what an awesome experience as a Carnivore!!
Anytime I'm at a Mexican restaurant I always start by asking if I can add meat to the fajitas...but On The Boarder was super accommodating and had "sides of meat" already as an option.
Next time I might skip the shrimp which was only three pieces of shrimp and get an additional portion of steak instead (for almost the same cost). But overall I am super happy with this experience and will definitely be using it again as I travel.
Are there odd oils or seasonings in this you should be concerned about? Maybe 🤷🏼‍♀️ It definitely depends on your health goals if this is a good option for you. Not something I would recommend for every day, however, it's a really fun treat when you want to go out to eat but stay on track. I travel so much that when I'm in another state this is an awesome option.

You can't imagine it because it doesn't happen and you don't actually understand how the human body works. I've heard so many people with auto immune diseases who have cured it with this diet. People who have IBS and have struggled with it for years swear by this diet, it's actually great for digestion. Instead of parroting age old ideas that have been debunked by real medical research, just try it. It's not really that hard, only then will you understand how it works.

Fiber is actually unnecessary. If you eat enough fat, it lubricates your bowels and you don't get constipated.

People are so pressed that she ordered something unique. 1. She asked nicely first. 2. The waiter suggested her ordering in oz, because he could ring it up that way.
That is not being inconsiderate. She didn’t demand anything. She was kind and worked with the restaurant’s policy. I’d be happy to serve Laura anytime.

Exactly! I have friends who were or are now servers. This lady made it easier as substitutes could be just side orders. Those that want many things on one dish tweaked to their tastes are a little more of a challenge for servers to figure out how to present it and whether it can be done. I'm guilty of that sometime and I give bigger tips than 20% when a server at least tries to accommodate. Ex: can I have the 3 egg omelette but only 1 yolk? Omg, does that confuse everyone😅.

Over half the adults have prediabetes or full diabetes. Heart disease comes along with that, all due to carbs, NOT meat or saturated fat. Our food pyramid was built on a lie. The guy that started it was Ancel Keyes. He fed meat and cholesterol to rabbits, and they got cholesterol in their arteries. But rabbits eat plants. Still, he thought it was a good idea for humans to go low fat, so that's how it started.

Yea, you have to rework your relationship with food on this diet. That’s why i like it though. Ive always struggled with things like emotional eating, binge eating, and just general over eating, but with this diet im actually seeing lots of progress. I see food as less of a source of entertainment and more of just a fuel source. I notice that i think about food a lot less now and i am able to just focus on and enjoy the rest of life much more without constantly being hungry or thinking about when im gonna have my next tasty treat and then feeling guilty after. The problem i had with every other diet I’ve done is that I never fully felt satiated. Now i just eat when I’m hungry and eat till im full and my body takes care of the rest. No more worrying about calorie counting or checking the scale everyday. This got long mb lol

Yeah, I'm finding that, after so much time barely getting by during the virus, many restaurants are willing to give you whatever you want as long as you ask nicely. I have a neighborhood restaurant that does a special on prime rib on Fridays. I order two plates minus the spuds and veg. They know me on sight now and don't even bother giving me a menu. Places like Chipotle and Subway are willing to give you just the "good stuff". Subway calls it "Sub in a Tub".

You have to be cognizant of where you're eating - sometimes you just have pay for the "meal" and not get the sides. Always scope out the menu first to see what they have. It's easier and cleaner to eat at home obviously but sometimes you need to go out to be social (and that's important in your life too) or if you're out of town for work, etc.

@RUclips Account And that's the truth. You shouldn't ignore how important it is for your MENTAL health to get out and be social with friends and family. I have some friends where we'll go for a long walk or to a museum or similar instead of eating out, but for the most part - a get together is about eating out. Even so, if you shift your mindset to the "the food is not the focus - spending time with loved ones IS the important part", that helps immensely.
