    To be honest, I believe that my lack of mindfulness plays a huge role in my forgetfulness. I normally do things without mentally connecting to my action.
    For example, if I go somewhere in the house then just rest my phone on the table, I might forget to pick it up from there. However if in my mind I acknowledge that I'm resting my phone on that table I stand a better chance at remembering to pick it up.
    I hope I make sense here.

      @@preciousadorable7416 Not OP, but I’m sorry that that comment has had that affect on you! I have ADHD as well and this happens to me several times a day, but it is not something that only happens to people with ADHD. I think you’re right in your assessment that it’s related to a lack of presence in the moment, which also overlaps with ADHD, but again, is not necessarily the root of that kind of event. I’m sure there could be many other reasons why this happens, and not all of them point to mental illness.

    One thing NOT mentioned is dehydration. Sadly people don't even realise they are dehydrated (normally because they don't want to "keep going to the toilet") but this has a huge effect on thought processes, mood, and memory.

    • @Lyonessi
      @Lyonessi 3 года назад +3

      Could you please elaborate on this, I have bladder issues and hate having to rush to the toilet so admittedly I don't drink as much as recommended.

    • @combatwombat71
      @combatwombat71 3 года назад +6

      @@Lyonessi Severe dehydration can cause confusion, drowsiness, memory loss, and other symptoms that look like dementia. It's important to stay hydrated (aim for 6-8 drinks per day). Be particularly vigilant if you take diuretics or laxatives or suffer from diabetes, high blood sugar, or diarrhea.
      Additional studies indicate that dehydration can accelerate cognitive decline in people with dementia. Decreased water levels in cells can cause proteins to misfold and prevent the clearance of these toxic proteins, causing them to build up in the brain.
      Many other studies, with subjects ranging from children to older adults, have shown that even mild dehydration can impair mood, memory, and brain performance.

    My life-long depression has definitely effected my memory. For example, I worked for nearly 20 years in a tire factory and its like it never happened. I don't have much memory of it all. Secondly, my older son moved out of home 4 years ago and sometimes I forget he even exists or existed at all. This is not new. I have only a few childhood memories. Mainly surrounding food and school.

    I can’t recommend writing your life down enough (or another way of recording your life if reading/writing is a challenge, like video diaries, or drawing a picture a day, tracking mood, etc.). ADHD causes so many different memory challenges for me, both short term and long term, and nothing has helped me remember events of my life better than keeping a paper planner and a long-hand writing journal/scrapbook. I flip through them every so often, and can recall my life a lot easier because it’s saturated with different cues in my journals.

    • @RumbleFish69
      @RumbleFish69 2 года назад

      At your age, forgetfulness can be caused by many things that have nothing to do with Alzheimer's or dementia. In most cases, at 28 years old, it's usually associate to normal memory loss. However, in order to truly get to the bottom of your concerns, you should start by considering your daily habits and routines as a possible cause for what you are experiencing. At the risk of coming off as crude, if you drink alcohol on a regular basis, this routine could cause tremendous lapses in memory. Alcohol has a tendency of effecting memory tremendously, so if you drink, consider this as a cause. In fact, experiencing losses in time and memory does not only occur while one is drinking, it can also extend well beyond the time of consumption.
      If you don't drink, then it could be something as simple as your diet. "Junk" food, if you consume it, also has the ability to effect memory loss. Junk food is filled with, well, junk, so when you put junk that into your body, it can do a lot of damage; especially where memory is concerned. Consuming large quantities of sugar could have a great effect on memory.... Things like cakes, sodas, fast food in general, will definitely make a dent in one's ability to process memories properly.
      I am going through my own memory issues right now, which I am pretty sure are associated to dementia; only because it runs heavily in my family. This is another thing you should look into, whether Alzheimer's or dementia runs in your family; or if it doesn't. If it does, then that would be something else to consider. If it doesn't, then this should put your mind a ease because it would mean that your memory concerns are more than likely associated with something that you can control.
      Lastly, I would recommend that you look at the kinds of memory issues you are having in the first place. If you're forgetting why you walked into a room, after you've walked into the room, and memory issues along those lines, this could just be normal memory lapses. For me, my memory losses are a bit more significant.... At almost 58 years old, I am forgetting the names of people who I already know, and having the occasional black out where I forget how I got somewhere, or why I am even there. I will eventually remember, but sometimes it can take several minute to get my memory back. I am also doing other concerning things like leaving my house without a coat, when it's very cold and putting on my shoes (and tying them) before I put on my pants. These things have concerned me enough that I am now seeking help, especially since they are getting worse and because I also have a family history of dementia. Please keep in mind that I am almost 58 years old, so there is a 30 year difference in our ages. However, if you are experiencing anything like what I am experiencing, then you should definitely see a doctor. I hope this helps.

    I have adhd and was diagnosed at a young age, I have been on medication for years but when I forget to take it I know because it’s like dementia. I’ve gotten lost in places I have been over 100 times. I’ve asked the same question, 4 times in 20 minutes, like my short term memory is gone. Before I got on medication, I had no idea how bad it was. Adhd can seriously be debilitating if untreated.
    Side note, sometimes even on medication I still have these moments they are just not as frequent. And thank god because living like that is debilitating.

    I have several TBI’s, BPD, now mold toxicity has brought me to a complete standstill. Extreme mental fog, I ca not Renee why I left a room or why I’m outside. This is different from before, it seems like when I try to recall something, it’s like it never existed. On a farm with a narcissist and I must admit it’s spooky here now. I get nothing but gaslighting and untruths from her. If it wasn’t for my dog here I don’t think I would be alive today.

    Im 19 and i struggle with my memory so so much, it impacts every part of my life and makes things harder for me. I try to write things down, and i guess in a way it feel as if trying to remember things makes it harder on myself because of the way I talk myself down in my head like “how did u forget something like that, what were u thinking, why can’t u just remember” it’s really exhausting. I forget things I did the day before, I forget appointments, I’ll make reminders for things and I’ll forget I made them, I forget where I put things down. It’s really confronting when someone in my life asks me a question like -do you remember this thing that we did the other day or a place we went and im scrambling my head just trying to grasp anything relating to what they’re saying and I just can’t remember so I have to act like I do, I feel ashamed almost. The scary part is that if someone wanted to they could put a memory in my head that isn’t real and that didn’t happen bc of my lack of memory, like I just go with it cus I’m thinking - yeah that probably happened I wouldn’t remember it myself anyways, so I would just go with it. I’ll also get made fun of some times by those around me cus they’ll notice that I misplace things a lot and that im forgetful so I can’t even hide it. In school I struggled so much because a big part of school is memorizing things so although my teachers told me I was smart I couldn’t preform well bc of my memory. Im young I shouldn’t be having these issues and I’m worried for myself it’s always affected my life but I’ve been noticing it more recently that I’m not living with my family anyone, I don’t have them to remind me about things and keep me on track a lot so :/ I have to rely on myself, my notes app, reminders and papers I write things down on but still then I misplace those 😂 or forget to come back to them. So sad !

    I look several times at number digits to be able to type them
    Or once I have it memorize, if im cut off, I forget what I remembered instantly
    I forget people's names, I forget even having a dtae with them planned, I forget things on the oven, I forget my phone (even tho I use it non-stop), I forget my bags, my keys language I forget what I was doing I forget my own clothes that I have them untill someone reminds me of the piece of garment that I once wore on a particular day and I'm like "do I have that piece of clothes?" ... My grandmother had dementia and my mother has it also.... At 57 years old, I am now in a place where I am forgetting more and more everyday. And, it is much more than walking into a room and forgetting why I went in there in the first place... I am looking at people who I have known and not remembering their names - this happens quite a bit. I am also forgetting basic life things like washing my hands and putting on my pants before my shoes. Sometimes, it feels like I have blacked out and I have to take a moment to get my bearings in order to know where I am. I am also becoming more tired and less active. I only do things that will effect my day to day, but other activities are at zero right now. I am at the point where it is now beginning to concern me; especially given my family history. I am not sure if this is normal or something far more concerning. Every on-line memory or dementia test seems to indicate that I am going through something normal for my age. I don't believe that this is the case. I am not sure what to do.

      @yankee2666 I made this comment over a year ago, and in that year, I have become more and more forgetful. This is no longer an issue for me, and it no longer frustrates me. I simply don't care about this situation anymore. I've learned to cope and to take many deep breaths. Overall, I have simply made my peace with all of it, and I am now at the point where I am making arrangements for my life in the coming years. I really don't know how many years I have left, but at some point, I will forget it all. I have also come to realize that there is something pleasant in what is coming. Yes, I realize that I will forget many good memories, but I also realize that I will forget many unpleasant ones as well. And, at last count, I've had more bad ones than good ones. Thanks for the comment.

    A dear friend of mine is always losing bank cards and she is now a senior citizen (every month going to bank to get a new card - instead of online),she constantly loses her keys, cash, iPhones and she has always been like this. She does not have help from her family who at one time helped her with keys. She does not seem to learn from her mistakes. Her house is filthy and she can not get repairman to go in and fix things. When she was a kid she had a maid and a nanny. She is now on a fixed income and I am constantly shocked at the amount of important items she loses and she loses them often. I wonder if she is doing this as a distraction so that she does not have to deal with feelings or issues. Maybe this is some form of self-sabotage. Her filthy house may be a way to keep others out of her life. I can not speak to her about her hoarding issues as this makes angry no matter how kind or gentle I try to be. I do not want to lose her as a friend and I worry about her. She is fiercely independent.

    i'm 16 y/o and i'm really struggling currently with some type of memory loss, i'm forgetting words i used to know, i'm writing things backwards, i forget the meaning of things even though they have been told to me multiple times throughout the course of the day or week, and even with in a span of a couple of MINUTES. things that i used to know and be familiar with are now something i need need to be reminded of. patterns and routines, i recently got myself in trouble at school bc i have this class, 8th period on what we call an A day,an d i had completely forgotten what i had i was so sure i checked all my possibilities and i never found it, now you might think, "why didn't you ask someone in the office like an administrator?", well my anxiety is pretty bad and i was scared to for whatever reason so i ended up skipping that class for a month. i got lunch detention then got in trouble bc i kept missing my lunch detentions and was told i was refusing to go when that was not the case at all! i kept forgetting and they would remind me AFTER lunch, meaning i would have to make it up the next day, and the cycle would continue. i go to therapy for several reasons like my mental illnesses, Anxiety, Severe Depression, PTSD, and ADHD, its just a handful. and i often forget what i am supposed to bring up to my therapist because even though something has been bothering me and it is worth mentioning during our meetings i will not remember that i had something to talk about so we end up circling back to the same issues that we have previously discussed even though i'm going through way more and new things keep popping up. i Have a REALLY hard time remembering names. My dad has a hard time remembering names to coincidentally, i have always had thins problem to a small degree but i feel throughout the years it is way worse and much more of a problem. If i have to give important information i wont remember who is worth mentioning i will just refer to the person as my relationship statues with them, such as, "my therapist", "my (insert subject) teacher", "my psychiatrist", "my friends from (whenever/however i met them)". i always forget what i am talking about mid sentence and i can never recover and just shut down, OR i will say one thing multiple times throughout a week, day, or minute and not realize it until it is pointed out and even then might continue to make the same mistake. i have a hard time learning new things, i have always had and it caused me to be a bad student since i started going to school, i was labeled a problem child and a trouble maker when i only acted out bc of thing i was going through at home and the fact that i was really struggling but people would only tell me to ask my parents for help (which was not an option for me as i have gained a lot of trauma bc of it), or study, or just pay attention. no one understood the i COULD NOT. or at least that it was really hard. i have a lot of deep rooted trauma associated with school and bc of it i stopped doing my homework in 6th grade, stopped informing my parents about how i was doing in school, stopped telling them about important meetings the school wanted to have, stopped trying in school, etc. and i stopped trying to learn overall bc even though i knew i could if i just had the right help, i wasn't getting it and came to the conclusion that i would never receive it. so i stopped trying and now i have missed years worth of important and valuable information regarding basic education. i felt stupid, i still do bc i do not know most of the things i should, i am a junior but i only got this far bc of sympathy from school/teachers and summer school. i have went to summer school almost every year of my school life since is was in 1st grade. Now i'm acting like i have dementia. i don't know what to do and it is really scaring me and messing with my anxiety, i feel like this might cause some sort of panic attack in me as i feel it is getting to me a lot more. i'm having suicidal thoughts bc of this and self-harm urges. i need help truth be told. i cannot remember fucking anything, and forget fucking everything. i know i'm a year late but i just found this video.

    sometime i talk about something, i forget what im about to say. i have the plan on what to say but it just disappear then i have a habit to talk about something associate to it. its getting scary for me. i eat a lot of sweet too. dose that impact it? i feel like it dose but i think the stressed i had in the past really affected my mind today.

    I don't know what my problem is. Honestly, with as long as I've been aware that I'm forgetful, I sometimes think it's some kind of cognitive misdevelop (I'm aware that I may have just made up my own word), or maybe the way I was raise caused my development to go one way, or I also wonder if it truly came later when I was an adolescent. I got into an accident when I was 11. I got a concussion, but that's the only injury that was discussed. But what happens with the area of the brain that experiences physical trauma? Does it fully heal, can it cause something to disconnect. I don't know how long I've been forgetful, I just know that I've always had a hard time retaining information. I can't remember names or faces. Long term memories are easier to access than short term. I repeat things, and misplace things. My husband speaks of memories that I can't reach. I will admit that our lives forever feel like constant chaos. Circumstances always feels out of our control, so when he brings up memories, it's like something that happens around a stressful time. And with that, to him it feels like insignificance to me, or I don't care, but that's the farthest from the truth. I can't multitask, so how am I supposed to remember something when it's forgotten. Same thing with the misplaced or forgotten things. When they're out of your mind when you don't need it, how do you just pull the memory out of thin air? I'm so slow at that. Remembering what I was doing in the current moment is becoming challenging as well. I joke to my husband, which I know I shouldn't, but I say, "don't be surprised if one day I'm diagnosed with dementia, because this forgetting thing is a whole trait of mine." Don't know where it came from, or how it stuck, but no matter how mindful I try to be, I can never get better at it.

    I’m 18 and I struggle with forgetting things a lot to the point where I have to write down everything I want to do in the day before I forget and I’ll even forget I wrote them down. I recently noticed I’ve been asking the same questions over and over to my family… what to do now?

    I've always been a little forgetful, and it gets to a point where it gets embarrassing sometimes. I forget instructions, like if my sisters ask me to bring their things somewhere, or I get asked to do a small task, but if I don't do it right away, I would forget, and it's going to look like I ignored the request on purpose. More recently, my cousin has repeatedly told us that she is allergic to nuts, and in my excitement to make breakfast for her one day, I made oatmeal the way I always do it: with peanut butter. She forgave me easily, but I still feel very embarrassed that I forgot.

    A lot changed for me in the past year, mostly all positive but i ended up burning myself out on a great work opportunity. I feel like I haven't come back from that yet. I feel like I had better cognitive function when I was an alcoholic than I do now when I'm sober. I may know something but I can't recall it, or I confidently misremember things. It's becoming unbelievably frustrating.

    17 and I'm really concerned because I keep forgetting everything important these past few days and til now, I never had the chance to recall them. One instance was during my examination day. So, these are the things that I only remember, after getting into my classroom, I greeted our proctor (I was late - _- ), she called my surname and I gave her my exam permit then took my seat. We were taking physics that's why we prepared a cue card for formulas -we gave it to our tc for checking before the test- So, when I needed to take look at the card, I didn't bother for a second to ask my proctor about it (I was shy at first hehe because she wasn't our tc in physics) then she went outside for a second, so I asked my seatmate where'd they got their cue cards. She said, fron the proctor, and that's when I asked the proctor and wanna know what she told me? She said, "I gave it to you already, didn't I?" and there, I checked my bag and found I put it in there before I got to my seat. it's embarrassing af 😭

    I notice that in the last few years, I started forgetting how to spell a lot of words which is really embarrassing. Need to check Google to be sure of the spelling. Then just recently, It's been difficult to retain information. I actually just started a new job and currently undergoing product and process training. It's been two weeks and I still keep forgetting important information which is very crucial to my job. I have to ask my trainer the same questions several times which is a waste of her time. I am 43 and I am afraid this is a start of a serious memory loss issue. There are even times that I would need to stare at the monitor for a few seconds to few minutes while thinking of the right words to use. If this continues I would need to leave my job(or I'll get fired) because I wouldn't be able to meet my employer's expectation. 😭😭😭

    I can recall exact situations and conversations back to early childhood.
    It’s a type of verbal/visual eidetic memory but I can’t easily memorize written text.
    My dad and his brother had Alzheimer’s so I wonder if a person like myself could get it also and how it might manifest?
    Honestly I wouldn’t mind losing this ability since this type of thing is more of a curse then blessing.
    Any thoughts?
    Ps I’m 60 years old and no significant changes yet.

      Excellent questions.
      Im not that thrilled having this “ability”.
      On the plus side i can recall in my head every note/lyric of every song ive ever heard but im not a gifted singer or musician so its kind of wasted on me.
      I dont have any techniques that I can share since it just happens.
      I was 25 or so before I realized I was way different from most others.
      Honestly I’ve developed ways of hiding it at times so i dont appear too freakish.

    I have an ex who has started losing her memory when it comes to going to places she knows very well how to get to and from those places along with having the feeling people are coming into her house when she'd not at home and blaming me for hacking her phone and internet. Now they do act weird and shows unknown devices have connected to the wireless router but blames me cause I'm the closet to her.. is psychosis and memory loss hand in hand? How can I communicate with her that it wasn't me.

    In addition to the other helpful tips in the vid, here is what helped me, personally, dramatically.
    I can't promise it will work for you because as the lady says there are different issues.
    Colloidal silver. Fish. Tea and coffee and decaf is okay. Celery. MCT and/or coconut oil. All backed by research.
    In addition, research shows a strong link between staying up late and dementia, especially as one gets older. To match circadian rhythms be in bed by 11 PM.
    Keep checking your urine ph. If it goes down you may get tired menially as well as physically. For me what works is a good solid 8 ph.
    Be sure never get to low blood sugar. Don't be hungry but keep little meals going, especially meat.

    • @sachab6098
      @sachab6098 2 года назад

      for your health, maybe cut out the silver bits? this is from webmd: "Colloidal silver has been used for infections, hay fever, skin conditions, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support any of its uses... It can be unsafe when taken by mouth, applied to the skin, or inhaled."

    • @thewordisahammer6634
      @thewordisahammer6634 2 года назад

      @@sachab6098 Webmd is very conservative in what they say. But the truth is that alternative health methods do not get funding for testing from places like Big Pharma. Years ago I had a sore throat. I tried colloidal silver spray. To my shock my tonsils, which had always been large, shrunk to so small a doctor asked if I had had them removed. Obviously I had an infection in them, for years, that the spray killed.

    She briefly touches on how it goes both ways between parents and children, but I absolutely cannot stand the older generations that criticize and blame younger generations for being "addicted" to devices. If parents actually paid attention, interacted, and emotionally connected with their children, instead of just telling them to go outside more, or do something else but not do that something with them, then children automatically would use devices less. Maybe you have to implement more of a time restriction for teens (or maybe not, teens crave more independence from their parents naturally, and they deserve to have it within reason), but younger children are already instinctively wired to crave attention and comfort from their parents. It is the parents that provide the devices to their children to soothe them instead of soothing their children themselves, that have caused the lack of attention span and focus. I am more focused than ever when I play videogames because they were my emotional support growing up, they taught me how to problem solve, how to go on adventures, how to persevere when things got difficult, and even how to make decisions that would give me the desired outcome I wanted. I know technology was rapidly advancing while I was growing up, but the videogame consoles didn't cause my mental illness. The way I was raised did that, and videogame consoles helped me survive it. If it weren't videogames consoles, it'd probably have been television in the previous generation, books in the generation before that, literally anything that could've been used to escape reality. Fucking boomers just can't take responsibility for anything (and their parents can't take responsibility for Boomers, either). Hopefully more people in my generation learn to actually be good enough parents, and stop blaming the developing children that THEY are responsible to teach life skills, for their problems.
