This is a real shocker. The relation between Toto and Hamilton basically revolutionized not only Mercedes but the entirety of Formula 1 and they're the reason they are where they stand so seeing him team which is basically his entire history is really shocking.
Maybe Toto sells his share in Mercedes and follows him over to Ferrari 😅
Leclerc is not scared of lewis by any means, if anything would relish the challenge and also opportunity to learn from one of the best drivers ever.
Let’s not forget that the same guy at 19 years old joined Ferrari and outperformed Sebastian Vettel

Personally, Hamilton doesn’t think he can win an 8th and is starting to go into the twilight of his career. I think he knows he’s got a set number of races for him and he’s tryna complete side quests lmao
In my opinion I think it’s for the opposite reason I think he still has a hunger and realises that Mercedes is not in the current situation to feed that hunger.
Lowkey think it’s the opposite, instead of letting his career dwindle down at Mercedes he’s trying to reinvent himself at Ferrari.
Also deciding to join in 2025 is clever not only because neither Merc/Ferrari will be able to challenge RB, he’ll use 2025 season to get to know the team and get settled going ultimately going all in to get the 8th in 2026.
He was saying a while back that Alonso's success made him reconsider retiring at 40.
MB stuffed him up for two years, even when he wanted the car to go in a different direction.... and Ferrari is a new challenge
@@gonzo1354 that’s also another way to look at it. But I definitely think there’s a component of “I’m getting old and I want to do other shit in life” so it’s a new challenge but it’s either a hit or miss if that makes sense
@@alastairman1223 yeah but it's a hit and miss where he has everything to gain and nothing to lose, because if he doesn't succeed, it will be Ferrari's fault anyway, so if he really is sick of waiting for 2 years, this is the only thing that makes any sense for him career wise besides straight retirement. This is the only way he can prove anything beyond what he has already achieved. Whether or not it materialises almost doesn't even matter.

I'd love to see Russell and Albon at Mercedes though. Albon _really_ deserves a better car.
Btw, this isn't the first time in recent years Ferrari grabs "the biggest name" on the grid - they tried it with Alonso, they tried it with Vettel. And both times it went... meh.
Sainz would be out of contract so would need to find another seat

@@NotApplicableF1 True. Also, Alonso was only 4 and 3 points away from the title in 2010 and 2012 respectively. Both years the title went to Vettel, who would go on to suffer a similar fate at Ferrari. I wonder whether the same will happen to Hamilton. Red Bull and Max looked like they're on top of everything last season.

As a ferrari fan, I have to say that yes Lewis is an amazing driver and him joining ferrari would benefit the team a lot but I believe that he belongs to Mercedes. 6WDC just says it all. It would be like if Schumi joined McLaren or Renault in 2006 for the 2007 season. (yes he joined mercedes 2010 but that's different as he came back from retirement)
I had that thought too. Surely Lewis and Mercedes have too close a relationship for this to happen. But I guess in F1 you never know.

I feel like if anyone is replaced it'll probably be Daniel as Yuki has been putting up more consistent results and has a lot of momentum going into 2024 season

George only just beat a rookie in what was on average a slower car. I'm guessing Mercedes will try & get Kimi into Williams for at least 2 years & take a "temporary" driver in the meantime. I think Hulkenberg would be a good fit. Not sure Alex will want to be secured driver in a team on the way down while Williams are still going up. Ocon & George will crash into each other. Agree Lando isn't going anywhere

@@gonzo1354 Schumacher was a slow in a haas, name the last person you remember being fast, developing, or even really doing well consistently in a haas. He’s already a reserve driver for Mercedes, and Toto has pushed for him to get a drive at Williams saying that he shows a lot of promise. I’m not saying that Mick definitively will probably get the seat, but it’s probably a possibility that he might be considered or maybe even thought about in the conversation.

This is single handedly the most shocking news to hit F1 in a while. I think there's going to be a drama at Ferrari, Sainz will feel a huge sense of distrust for having his seat axed without prior notice, and Ferrari will no doubt begin to isolate him after the 2nd half of the season so as to protect their important information when he moves to another team.
Mercedes will feel a bit of betrayal after Lewis publicly commented on his loyalty to the team. No doubt Toto will begin to show George preferential treatment and direct the staff to tune the car to his liking, whilst also isolating Lewis a bit too.
I can foresee both Ferrari and Mercedes having subpar seasons for those reasons...let the fireworks begin.

@@NotApplicableF1 just like in tennis, everyone is a RF fan even though they're not. In both Premier League and the NBA everyone secretly a fan of one of the giants - Man U, Arsenal or Liverpool in PL; Lakers, Celtics or Bulls in NBA. Each sports league have their own iconic team(s).

Maybe Hamilton will lose the one that Massa was cheated out of - then it will be six, and always in the fastest car with a poor teammate. Will be interesting to see how Hamilton fares against Leclerc in the same car, if it’s a great car Leclerc is more likely to be the next Ferrari WDC.
