    Hi Marty, I grew my last batch of microgreens in straight casting as I was too lazy to go to the house and lug the big bag of potting soil, LOL. It worked great. I also had a volunteer tomato in my worm bin that is over 4 ft tall now. So plants grow very well in just worm castings.
    I am also working on a system to replant in the same soil and the first results are great. Thanks for all you do.

    I've noticed for myself that when i plant cuttings in soil that contained cow manure and earthworm free soil, every nematode, fungus and bacteria and their mother destroyed and rotted my cuttings within days to weeks, even plants known to root quickly. But when i plant cuttings in the worm castings from under my mango tree, i have an almost 100% survival rate. Even cuttings that aren't supposed to be watered often like rosemary are rooting in direct rain. I even got trees that root poorly and are grafted like citrus and those grown from seed like soursop to root within two months. Something about the microbial ecosystem created by the earthworms protected and fed my cuttings nutrients.

    • @martysgarden
      @martysgarden  3 года назад

      Yes, the microbes protect the root zones from Nematodes and promote root growth. Thanks for sharing your experience here with me and the community Loseni. Hopefully see you at a live show. They are every Saturday 9.30am Sydney Australia time. 😀

    Of course plants grow just great in worm castings. Only issue is that it's expensive and wasteful to not mix in some amount of other soil or dirt, even sand. But the castings themselves should provide more nutrients and microbes than any plant should need.
    As for growing in water with some castings in the bottom, that's pretty similar to aquaponics but in aquaponics the manure is generally from some other source like aquarium fish. Worm castings is worm manure, and so should work just fine, too until all available nutrients are used up.

It's been highly discounted now and will teach you all to know in this area. I go quite deep into castings and harvesting the farms.
