Great video I just recently started using worm castings and I’m starting a small garden so I will take in this knowledge that you have so kindly provided us and start using my own warm casting. Thanks again for sharing.
@@Alisorganics Yea! Im learning how to compost currently. What temperature does chicken waste (any animal waste really) need to reach when composting/ how long for disease causing bacteria to be killed? Also is it a 50/50 mix of waste(high in nitrogen) to browns (high in carbon)
I started my first worm farm a few years ago in a garbage can i was going to throw out that had holes in the bottom. (Started composting the same way.) Only expense was buying some worms.
Don't need to buy worms. Just dig at the base of a lawn clippings pile. They congregate there. Grab a scoop of worms and the clippings they are in and put that straight in your vessel
Thank you so glad you enjoyed the video, as far as a book goes may be some day when it's not so crazy. Here is a link to a worn bin on my web site: www.alisorganics.com/products/the-worm-factory-basic-bin?_pos=5&_sid=7ea124707&_ss=r Thank again
Just get a worm bin...4 x 8 or 4 x 4 with bottom and wood lid.. worms love composted horse manure.. composted vegerable leftovers.. carrot apple peelings.. in particular from a juicer. Water.. best use worms directly into garden and their castings...worms in bin double in numbers every 60 days during warm months...I had worm farm early 1970's...
Just watched your video on growing tomatoes. Loved it. Also found out that you are in Zone 8 in Southern Utah. Have subscribed & look forward to your videos.
I yielded more lettuce just by using worm leachate, and then added in casting when it was finally ready! The results have been impressive!! Our veg beds are way healthier with the castings :)
@@mariozepeda1889 only when they are super fine or powdered. I put egg shells in there that aren’t fine sometimes and they remain that way. I don’t mind, the castings with those larger pieces of eggshells get put in the garden and they will break down over time.
All the other worm youtubers say you can use leachate(the worm water that runs through the bin) because it's full of bad bacteria. You say you use it on your citrus trees and they thrive. I've always wondered why it would be bad because you are putting rotting veges in anyway so why would the water be bad?
I understand that the worm farm worms won't populate the garden. They instead prefer food waste and other decaying matter like lawn clippings, leaves or similar. Gardens don't generally have that tupe of environment.
Red wigglers are social and work together. They do like decaying matter. Other worms do as well. If you mulch with grass clippings, apply compost, chop and drop, use leaves in the fall red wigglers will decompose that debris. Yes they love that organic matter in or out of a bin. 😊
Great presentation of useful information. Appreciate the info. being clear and concise.
You answered all my questions perfectly! Thank you so much and looking forward to all your videos! xoxox

Helpful! trying to learn how to harvest castings correctly. I might have to buy a worm bin
Worm bins are rather fun to do and its so nice having your own castings!

@@horitauri Kinda late. Now I have thousands. Not all worms are composting worms. 🙂
I have plenty of worms, they are in every part of the yard. Is this ok?

@@Alisorganics Thank you for the info, thanks a lot😉
Is the weight to volume ratio of worm castings to garden mix using fresh worm castings or those bought packaged from the hardware store?
That would be a dried worm casting weight bagged or your own that has been air dried. Wet is always more dense as well.

@@Alisorganics Thanks. Hardiness Zone 6b or 7 (or something else)?
Hi can I use worm casting for flowers
Of course! It’s good for all plants indoor and out!
I’ve had a worm bin for probably 15 years. My castings seem kind of sticky/pasty, and when dried, resemble papier-mâché. Is that what you get?
Yes, It is sticky until they dry out. Then they can be fluffed. They can be used wet though.
That’s why I love worm poo! 💜
That is a true statement! :)
I know. That is why it made me giggle. 🪱❤️

I agree! Well worth using!

are amazon worm castings good
I’m not sure, but I would think so, and certain brands will be better than others for sure.
They eat egg shells too?

Yes we do! Red wigglers.
