  • This week on 'Has It Aged Well?' we finally discuss our first Guru Dutt film. It's the romantic comedy 'Mr. & Mrs. '55' directed by Guru Dutt and written by Abrar Alvi. Joining Abbas for this episode is perhaps the most prolific chronicler of Hindi cinema - writer, film historian and documentary filmmaker Nasreen Munni Kabir. Topics discussed include Guru Dutt and his coterie of frequent collaborators Abrar Alvi, Johnny Walker etc., The difficult and confused gender politics of the film, Madhubala's run as the vivacious leading lady in the 50's, how the 'commerce vs. art' debate was seen by the filmmakers of the 50s, why Guru Dutt's 'tragic' films are more celebrated than a light hearted one like Mr. & Mrs. 55 and a lot more.
    Abbas is alone in the host's chair this week as Urjita is touring with her solo show across India. Catch her in your city: in.bookmyshow.com/events/urji...

    please please and please make Nasreen Aapa a recurring guest. Her well of knowledge about the journey of Hindi Cinema should be available to young audience more frequently. It was an absolute delight listening to her. Also I am excited about the idea of seeing her and Urjita interacting their takes on same context, it will be entertaining.

    What a wholesome conversation! Loved every minute of it ❤❤❤! While I have always enjoyed seeing Abbas in different podcasts on IVM, whether as a Co-host, panelist, or guest, this was my first time seeing him as a solo host and he nailed it! Dear Abbas, I really hope and wish you have your own (single-host) podcast someday soon 🙏.

    The lady in the song with Johnny Walker is not Noor. Johnny Walker married Noor. Noor played sister of Kishore Kumar in the 1954 movie Naukri directed by Bimal Roy.

  • @Jitendrakotai
    @Jitendrakotai 2 месяца назад +1

    Fact check : Johnny Walker did not marry the actress in Jane kahan Mera Jigar Gaya ji... She was Yasmin.. She was not Noorjahen and she was not the sister of Shakila as mentioned.

    What a great episode. An absolute gem discussed so lovingly! It'd great if in the editing, if it is possible to add corrections! To err is human, but it'll be cool to see that it is addressed, adding to a reliable ecperience! For example, while it is correct that Johnny Walker did marry Noor Jehan, they met while filming Aar Paar, but the artist in this film isn't her. It's Yasmin/Vinita Butt!

    Unnecessary or incorrect reference of movie Animal..Tripti Dimri's character was working as a rat to kill Ranvijay, still he just says it in anger and lets her go without hurting her at all. What are men supposed to do if some women is trying to kill him ? Ridiculous reference and top of it Ma'am said that she hasn't watched Animal.. why did she take the reference. Even in Tere Naam, that guest kept referring to Animal many times .. after a point it felt like the episode is about comparison of Tere Naam with Animal

    Describing the rich of India as 'westernized' is not accurate at all. The attire worn by them may be described as westernized but their demeanour was/is one of powerful, elitist, dare I say, pre- British rule in India, with women enjoying a sense of freedom just like westerners (not necessarily copied/mimicked from western styles), who have been enjoying that for yonks. Slapstick humour hasn't aged well at all.

      Rich of India in the 50s might have been "western" considering the fresh independence era
