The women in Yash Chopra movies are always deeper, matured, wiser than the men who we have to love despite/for their childish ways or flaws. She is pure spirit. He is just Ken. Yash Chopra’s romances always irritated me because of how lavish they are and how unrelatable the rich people always looked back in those days, such that you could have these happy-go-lucky sweet loving careerless ambitionless women. But he always won me over with the maturity of the characters and the love and friendships, their depth and beauty of personality and sensitivity - something that’s missing in Kjo’s movies, where love is far more superficial and surface level

The opening credits are really the most interesting part of this movie for me.
    1. I personally know one of the couples in there, as I’m sure do loads of other people as there are so many.
    2. I had a whole phase of hating the over done romantic gravy all the YRF movies dished out so I pettily felt vindicated later on when Adi Chopra got divorced - they’re the 2nd last couple, and obviously they weren’t each other’s one and done soul mates, so clearly the movie was lying to us and YRF were proven wrong with all this romantic bullshit. I was immature and stupid and took this stuff way too seriously in my defence.
Both Yash and Adi Chopra put in lots of overdone lines about “ek ladki ka dil kya chahta hai” in their movies. I can’t decide now if they were mansplaining or being empathetic.
Reviewing these 90s SRK movies I realise how much my dumbass teen self was consciously/unconsciously inspired by the SRK romantic trifecta - this, DDLJ, and KKHH. The whole negging “God, I hate girls!” “You’re not a girl!” “Bah! Romance!” all the while secretly listening to romantic music like Rahul does here. I’m pretty sure I aped his low lyrical senti style of speaking and the head tilt and lip pursing, etc. as well. For all that we say cinema is all fiction it does leave an impact. I bring this up since SRK was mostly non-misogynistic and empathetic to women. And its impact was still kinda toxic and damaging.
My 20s self was all modeled on Chandler Bing, something I recalled when Matthew Perry passed and tons of other dudes said the same thing, so I can’t decide if that was an improvement or not.
I can’t imagine how many young men nowadays think that behaving like Kabir Singh or Animal is “cool”, and what THAT’S doing to their psyche.

Not only did Akshay Kumar lose Madhuri but apparently he didn't even get paid for his role because Yash Chopra thought he's doing a favour by casting a flop hero and Akshay didn't work with YRF for a long time

Hey guys, Abbas and Bhavish mention about Uttam Singh as posthumously. But Uttam Singh is very much alive. Also, he has done music for Gadar and Dushman (Chitthi Na Koi Sandes, Aawaz Do Humko and Pyar Ko Ho Jaane Do); which were great songs as well. Gadar songs being reused in Gadar 2.
