I just love your sense of humour. Your getting out of bed routine is exactly like mine as I’m 50 now. Best hifi channel out there. 👍🏽
I have the same "issue" with my speakers. Regardless of make, model. Sometimes I think they sound absolutely terrible, muffled, muddy, I switch to another set of speakers, then switch back. Suddenly they sound perfect, lots of detail, plenty of top etc. I think the key thing is to remember that you listen with your brain, not your ears. Your ears are just a tube feeding your brain. It all depends on how your brain interprets the signal on any given day or time.
I have 5 sets of different speakers ,with the lintons being one of those sets! I love them!
Congratulations on your anniversary, buddy! Those are exceptional looking speakers! Very nice indeed.
Great to see you enjoying your new bits of kit, I love my Oberon 5's, can't help thinking, if you'd done some room treatment earlier & topped up the meagre lining in the Dali's, they would have sounded even better, now just get Living Colour - Vivid fired up and sit back and enjoy your new Linton's 👍
Yes, i got the same thing as you!
They sound 'bright' on the first minutes, slowly after about 15 minutes they become warmer and normal.
Thought it was just me.
My Linton are 2 months old.
That could be your amp warming up
Congratulations. Nie speakers. I heard them playing in shop - beautiful sound and look. Materials used in speaker drivers are still hard I think and they need more time for breaking in process. I was thinking that could be the amp itself as well as he needs to warm up but more likely speakers itself. The way I "breaking in" new speakers is 1st week or 2 low to medium volume level and after 2 -3 songs with dynamic music on about 70 to 90% of speakers power to give them good stretches. After that even on evening listening on low levels can have full sound with nice bass.
Just don't go too loud, be careful and don't burn it 👍 speakers need higher sound volumes from time to time as well for loosing up suspension, it will give them good stretches and they will become softer and faster responding for signal imo
I have had my pair with rosewood finish for about 5 months now, though I don't get to play them everyday. Love the warm and rich midrange but feel they sound a bit grainy sometimes with string instruments...
aside from grain, do you find any issues with male vocals?
its my target loudspeaker this year..
and would pair them with elex mk4
I really like rich tonality in the midrange (esp in vocals,
more than anything else
any compromise in the lows and highs are ok with me
If you ever get a chance to try a NAD c370 with your Lintons please do as this to me is a great pairing. I bought my c370 in 2006 second hand for £150 and its still going strong. Ditched my much more expensive amp for the NAD and I'm loving it. The only way I could be tempted to switch again was if I can get the equipment home to demo before I buy.
Hi. Congratulations on 10 years! Well done matey. Anyways, I reckon it’s more the amp than the speakers. My amps definitely need half an hour warm up time, even my latest marantz pm7000n. But especially my older Denon audio amps. The speakers I’ve got said 200 hours running in time! One company suggested just leaving them playing all day. Lol. I do want those speakers!
Could be the speakers breaking in bearing in mind the material used in those wharfdale cones is quite stiff, it could however be the amp though too, I have a big old Denon Amp which is fairly new and if I have not played that for a while it is fine when i switch it on, however it deffinately gets a bit louder after a few tracks, and in turn the base seems to fill out more. Or could be a bit of both.
Congratulations Marty on your anniversary I’m 30years this year how do we do it as for speakers there stunning 😍
Great speakers and it's normal for most speakers too sound ropey sluggish until they warm up if not used
😂 funny video !
love the Lintons and the Oberon’s too
Congrats, I wish I could afford buying these speakers right now.❤
I have these paired with a Denon DRA900-H Amp. I am very satisfied with this setup.
I have a pair and love them I many listen to them at low volume a sub would be fine only at low volume congratulations on your wedding anniversary you are a lucky man many wife's don't like audiophiles too many wires around
My amplifier behaves the same way, it takes 20 minutes to warm up and the sound becomes brighter. I didn't notice this in the speakers.
I was afraid you would leave out your punches at the beginning of the video. Don't ever do that, we deserve those punches every time a new video comes up. By the way, I think those Linton speakers are like a good wine. They get better and better with time...
As long as my arms still work, I'll never stop punching! 😄
Great review! I really like the Lintons.I like deep bass and warm, sweet upper mids and highs. Some have mentioned that the Lintons' tweeter can sound harsh at times. How far have you placed the speakers from the rear wall? From the video, it appears to be about 25cm. It's recommended to position them roughly 40cm from the wall for optimal performance. Have you encountered any issues with your positioning in achieving the "right" sound? And regarding home cinema, how clear is the dialogue? Are the explosions deep enough?
I own Q Acoustics 3030i. My room measures 5m by 3m, with the listening position at 3.8m. Sometimes, they seem too small for that distance. I believe a larger speaker like the Linton would be more suitable for such a listening position, though I'm not certain. Could there be a risk of the Lintons booming in this space? Thanks.
Yes I have experienced what you called the wake up period but I felt like it was the amp warming up not the speakers. I’ve had mine a little over a year now. They respond well to cable changes in the system. Now they sound better than ever. Like you said they will fill a room up. I don’t have mine as close to the wall as you and bass is very fruitful. That being it is a 6ohm speaker my amp is pushing a little over 250w and the first 10w is class a . I am using separates and I believe that really helps their performance along with good cabling.
I need to upgrade my cables - what gauge/type do you recommend for these speakers? Thanks
@@tombassmanI would go with nothing less than 14ga. Chord rumor x is a thin cable but wow it breaks a lot of rules, it really sounds dam good but expensive.I’ve own audioquest rocket 88, chord clearway x ,wireworld solace 8, Kimber 12tc and a few others. Audioquest has a big sound but it leans to the warm side which is too much of a good thing for the Wharfedale depending on your amp characteristics. Chord and wireworld are pretty decent and the kimber opens them up a little more. But I would say choose a cable according to your setup. The speakers to me leans to the good side of warm so if you’re components are on the bright side try to find a neutral cable. And vice versa. Not everyone would agree with cables making a difference but in my setup they do and it’s not small. I have separates
@@socool8860 thank you for the advice - my amp is usually described by reviewers as neutral , although with the Lintons I have a slightly warm sound which I love , so I’ll keep that in mind. At the moment my cables are 21ga so definitely need an upgrade. Cheers!
I had a pair of Wharefdale Lintons. I made them from a kit I bought in Newcastle upon Tyne about 1975! That were great and lasted me years. They actually blew at our Silver Wedding party. So they were at least 26 years old. 😢
I love watching your channel. We seem to have the same taste in speakers. I've got Oberon 5s with a Dali 12s sub and love them but I really like how the Wharfdale Lintons look like and their size. I hope their sound stage is really big. I just can't sell my Dalis. They sound too good. I will probably end up buying Lintons anyway. I have also Svs prime bookshelves with a svs 1000pro sub and I loved them too. I can't sell them either 🙈
I wonder how well these would pair with a proper class D amp, Hypex or Purifi. Good detail, exceptional bass control, super high damping factor, utterly neutral and no warmup. Seems like such an amplifier could bring out their qualities nicely.
I needed those three solid punches to wake me up after watching a Jay’s Iyagi review.
Anyway, congrats on your anniversary 😛
I got both speakers but am using the Dalis because the linton dominate my room which is 5m x 4m plus the wifey is happier but the linton is a better speaker especially and replacing the cheap crossover parts with better ones with the same values improved the speaker sound even better
which area in performance improved ?
and how many parts are there to be changed?
please feel free if you can spread the details
Hello.I have Q acoustics 3030i. My room is 5m x 3m. Listening position is at 3.80m.Sometimes i feel that they are too small for that far listening position.I think that a bigger speaker like Linton is most apropriate for that far listening position.Of course iam not sure. Is there any chance that these speakers (Lintons) will booming in this space?
I have these speakers too. I decided due to soft treble I added a pair of aperion super tweeter. This is a great combo😂
Hi another video, they are great speakers but to big for my room including the stands , if I had more space be great funny u have lintons 2 vintage speakers on my other system just updated the caps on the crossover nice sounding for r the age. I know you had 606s2 anniversary of which I have too but seriously thinking of changing them , I still like my old dm602s3 better than 606s2, it’s also interesting that b&w have re-engineered to s3 model . Regards mark
Wharfedale, please put a pull tab on your grills. That would be eazy peazy.
Thanks. Really interested in the Lintons, but think my listening room is too small. I like your reviews. Hope you get a chance to review the new Wharfedale Super Dentons. Interested in your take on them. 👍🏼🎶😎🤜🏼
Hi! What size is your room? I’ve got the same problem. Mine is 3mts x 4mts I’m think in evo 4.2 super denton or maybe pay less (first expirience in audiophile) for diamonds 12.2
@@manuelsalcines5432Sorry about delay responding. Been taking care of my sister. My current listening too. Is a small bedroom in apt. It’s 11 ‘ 8” x 10’. I ended up going with the the Wharfedale Diamond 225’s. 1” soft dome tweeter w/6.5” mid-woofer bookshelf two-way paired w/dual 8” subs. Working great & sounds wonderful. Saved about $1,500 and pleased with sound quality. 😎👍🏼🎶
Love your sense of humor 😂, I'm seriously considering getting these for my entry into the hifi world, wonder will these pair well will Marantz Model M1
i just bought these in walnut with the stands. i use them with the Wiim amp. i love it, definitely get them. best speakers i've ever had
Not had the issue - but I start them at v low volume…maybe that helps?
Are you going to be trying out the Super Lintons
I would love to get my hands on them but I don't think Wharfedale will send me a pair for review and I certainly can't afford 2k. 😩
@UTILITARIANTVUK How about reviewing Acoustic energy AE 500 speakers. I have a pair myself
Congratulations! BTW, do you think Linton's can reproduce your bones' sounds accurately?
I can't afford the Linton's, so, do me a favour: don't regret that purchase and, instead, enjoy them for you and me...
Cannot afford lintons get yourself a pair of b&w dm4 you will be shocked how good vintage speakers are I use spendor bc1 superb images and terrific separation of instruments I've used loads of speakers and they new what they were doing back then go have a listen don't believe me
@@michaelvincent8306 thank you!
I have the Lintons and wonder how they sound with your Leak 230 amp? Are they too warm? I would appreciate your comments as I might go and audition the Leak. Thanks
I don't find them overly warm with the 230.
I notice they are not toeing in to your listening position or do you move them when listening? I would think 30 hours is a short time to fully loosen up the drivers my 12.2's took around 100 hours before they really kicked in. Are you sure the Leak has enough grunt I use a couple of Vintage Receivers Pioneer SX750 and Toshiba SA735, I do find the Pioneer a bit weaker than the Toshiba when it comes to driving the 12.2's especially at lower volumes. Keep it up Thanks
I tried toeing them in but preferred them as they are. The Leak 230 has 75 watts per channel so it should have enough power to drive them.
Hi I just recently come pass you RUclips channel. It’s a great channel and very informative.
I wanted to ask your suggestion on a speaker choice. I currently have a Maranrz 5005 amp and I have some old Accustic Sulotions speakers that are over 20 years old. I recently wanted to change my speakers and decided to go for the Q Acoustic 3050i. I listen to a lot of vocal based mono vinyl. I find the speakers to be very cold and more importantly the vocals are set back. The soundstage is wide and I’m guessing that could be the reason. Can you suggest any speakers that can push that vinyl vocal sound and have more of a midrange. Tbh my 20 year old Acoustic solution sounded better specially with my vinyls.
Thanks in advance and keep making these great videos.
You're probably going to need something a bit more balanced. The Dali Oberon 5's may be a good choice if they're within your budget?
Love your video.. thinking to get a linton for myself… any recommendation for the ampli? Like marantz PM6007 or yamaha a-s301 is good enough for the speaker? Or need the bigger amp? Thanks
I'd probably go for the as501 if your wallet can stretch that little bit further?
@@UTILITARIANTVUK lovely❤️ .. thank u 🙏🏻
Please could you tell me the height of these from base of stand to top of speaker
About 120cm.
Ta thanks very much 👍
I’m considering getting a pair of these speakers but wonder if my room size would be too small and would I get issues with bass. My room size is 13ft x 14ft with 12ft high ceilings?
Should be fine but you may have to move them away from the wall if they sound a bit boomy.
My room’s not much bigger than yours and they sound great. About 2 ft away from the wall, with the 2 speakers and my listening position in an equilateral triangle of around 6 ft.
hi, I have been following you for a long time, I know you had diamond 230, and I would like to ask you what you advise me to buy, linton or diamond 250. Thank you
I've not heard the 250s but the Lintons are a lot better than the 230s.
@@UTILITARIANTVUK Thank you for the answer. If we're only talking about the mids and highs between linton and diamond 230, is linton over diamond? i keep reading that the linton has the more relaxing highs, how are they on the diamond?
This or kef r3 meta ?
I hope your RUclips channel lasts as long as your marriage, great video, thanks.
I hope so too! 😄
It might be your Stereo Amp that needs Warming Up to Sound it's Best, Rather than the Speakers
That's a good point.
It could be.
Would you please review Rega Aya speakers or else I will give u an uppercut 😅
I'd love to review them but I have a limited budget (I'm broke 😄). So I guess I'll have to eat an uppercut! ✊
@@UTILITARIANTVUK ask Rega to send u a pair?
I've emailed them but don't hold your hopes up. 😄

Get a big fat carpet ok that hard floor and they will sound even better
If you think these sound good I have an old pair of Realistic stainless steel enclosure speakers to sell you. GR Research review of these are spot on. The Lintons are cheaply made and sound mediocre at best. The crossover networks are cheap and the cabinets are cheap as well. And the speakers look good but are also budget quality. I hope for my 85th birthday my family gets me something that is quality made.
Odd, Erin over at Erin's Audio Corner measured these with professional equipment and he was really impressed with the results? Personally, I love them!
@@UTILITARIANTVUK If you're happy, keep on truckin'.
@@UTILITARIANTVUK But you do realize that Erin's makes commission from selling these speakers, right?
@@tomsettles6873 Not really, he loaned the speakers from a subscriber and has an affiliate link to crutchfield. The commission off that is a few bucks. Strange that you think Erin is making up the results for a few bucks but you believe Danny from GR Research who's trying to sell us the £1000 upgrade kit? 🤔
@@UTILITARIANTVUK Maybe I'm too much of a perfectionist. Danny is also a major hypocrite. I asked him 4-5 years ago to offer kits with larger woofers and he said it wasn't needed. But now he sells kits with 10 & 12 inch woofers. Enjoy your Lintons - sorry to have dumped on them. I really like the use of a 5 inch midrange.
If you could pull them out away from the wall a foot or more…they will be even better
I agree mine are almost 3 feet from the wall they are so good and I am still in breaking in mode
lol.... nice to know I'm not a tosser. 🤣
If Crosshair looks like Flea then yes, you look like Crosshair.
That's a bit of a 'Chilli' comparison!
Regards the sound difference, I've noticed it can happen with a cold and warm room?
I'd love to give them a try. Congratulations on your 10 out of 10😅I have to dali 5s and a pair of fyne 501s. There's a difference but dunno what it is. Anyway 🤛🤜👊🫵😂
Got Dali oberon 7s. Absolutely brilliant. Really strange and don't know why but they take a long time to wear in but now sound fantastic.
