it's crazy how all of these reviewers don't realize that the double tap for the gear shift is actually smart because if you accidentally hit it, it won't just go to another gear. where's the critical thinking in these reviews? and the shifter is really not that complicated to get used to, people.

I had bmw X1 and also 3 series with automatic gearbox. What you do nou understand is that there you can never change by mistake, because you have a buton on it that you need to push to use the stick.
Volvo it is nice, but that gearbox it is a shit.

90% of the online reviews say that the Volvo is the best small SUV on the market, yet, after test driving both the X1 and the XC40, picking the X1 was a no brainer for me. The volvo was one of the most unexciting cars I have driven, plus the infotainment and controls were so weird to use, that I had to pull off to adjust my climate control. It was also smaller inside than the X1 and much less practical. TBH, the only thing that was better in the Volvo was the ride comfort. Even the price of the BMW I got was lower.

    • @robert4you
      @robert4you 3 года назад

Hello from Sweden! _"that I had to pull off to adjust my climate control..."_ Why ??? You have voice control in the XC40... Keep your hands on the steering wheel and talk to your car. Works perfectly. And now they are going from the Sensus to the Google Infotainment. Huge improvement in every way.

The new Mercedes GLA looks like a proper SUV now instead of looking like a jacked up A Class, so it’ll be interesting to see what you guys think of that against the X1 and XC40! I was going to change my car this summer and I was going to get the XC40 R-Design, but the pandemic as effed that up, I’ll probably end up with a lease extension! But when I saw the new GLA it piqued my interest so I want to see if it’s a XC40 beater, or I’ll stick with my original choice!

The X1 25d M-sport is great at hitting those apex's and the launch control is a proper laugh, just be aware that the launch control is linked to the servicing times as it puts a lot of stress on some components. If you prefer any of the the other cars in this class then try a 25d, I reckon you will want to keep the keys to it, for a small SUV it has a surprising turn of speed and is all about the drive, yes the others may have a better dash or a nicer exterior, but you don't see them when hustling along those B roads, it's about the way the vehicle feels when pushing hard, and for that reason the 25d blows ALL the others away.

You have a big name but not the views to match... many car channels out there are doing much better although they don't have your experience, you're doing something wrong. I say it's time for an Autoguide face lift, or a whole new platform.
i'm only saying this because i think you deserve more.

  • @Hilariumosis

The X1 has been killing sales. But the XC40 is the European Car of The Year 2018 award winner. And XC60 has been the top selling SUV in Europe since launch basically and the XC90 is the current World Car of The Year champion. Volvo is doing wonders right now.
Can people stop complaining about the sideway shifting? It's not any stranger than other things that changes back and forth from generation to generation. People are just not used to it happen to the gear shifter but people go bonkers over it. I think it's cool and something you're pretty alone with which is fun when others drive the car xD
And the sacrifice shifting sideways instead of up-down is barely any. Just stop it already. Though I think it's ridiculous how in 2018 and soon 2019 can't do better with lagg. We are so technologically advanced and researched that turbo and response lagg shouldn't exist anymore really.

What I would willing to pay for content wise would be the following: More detail on the interior passenger adjustments, deeper content on the controls and settings available with the infotainment and Nav systems. For example does the car have an easy in/easy out feature for driver and or passenger seats, adjustability of the passenger sites). I have vehicle that it turns out to change the headlight bulbs you have to drop the bumper. Information on easy of routine maintenance. For top level review I would normally not be interested in that level of detail, but I am seriously thinking about the car that detail is of interest to me.

Stop/start modes are bad news, I wouldn't recommend using this with any car ! Why ? because it means the battery , starter motor take a real hammering over time, you can expect to replace the starter motor or battery after two or three years of city motoring, simply down to wear and tear ! commonsense should tell anyone this.
Cold winter weather, using start/stop increases engine wear considerably, especially if you live in a big city, where you might travel short distances with a cold engine, and have to stop at traffic lights etc time and time again over a relatively short time, this will cause considerable engine wear due to the engine oil being so cold for a longer period of time, compared to not using start/stop.

Yes, you can shut them off, but not before they go wild... Pull up to Starbucks, beep, beep, beep! I hate how the doors don't stay swung open if you're on the slightest slope... I don't like the windshield wipers, never the correct speed... I don't like the GPS, when you arrive it won't shut off some times... The seatbelt chime continues even when in PARK if you take it off a second before... No option for a remote starter... Gas tank cover pops open on every car wash... The front tow cover kept popping off... The driver's side door opened up once at highway speeds... The transmission stutters when going up parking ramps and especially noticeable when cold... I could go on and on, but I won't... BMW=NEVER AGAIN!

No in depth review of Volvo’s horrid infotainment controls? Hiding temperature controls behind a digital display was a huge mistake. Volvo was at the bottom of Consumer Reports reliability consumer survey due to problems with the infotainment. When many of your vital car functions are tied up in it then that’s a problem. I hope they get things worked out because i love where this brand is headed with these redesigns.

Why does no-one talk about the Volvo steering wheel? It is Tiny
It is the smallest steering wheel I have ever seen in any car.

Honda CR-V by far. Super reliable, solid, economical, high resale value, etc. Not a fun SUV, but the best for driving from A to B . I want to see that Volvo in 5 years and 100,000 miles......and the BMW I want to see the owner paying for repair like if it was a Rolls Royce

The most mileage ever done on a car is on a volvo with over 3 million miles. And you can get a gold mileage award when you get 500,000 miles on your volvo

As always there are excemptions . I would bet that on 99% of cases a Honda or Toyota Will be in better shape after 200k miles than on a Volvo. Now, we are talking NEW cars, not ones built in the 70´s ! There is no way a Volvo S40 Will last longer than lets say a Corolla or a Civic...not in a million years

Silly. Comparing a Honda to a Volvo and BMW makes no sense. If you like a base economy vehicle with a loud interior, plank, seats, low tech options, and zero curb factor go ahead, that's your choice. I'd choose the Volvo every time.
Also regarding reliability my last three Volvos have all cruised to 200k with basic maintenance and no issues otherwise. The tradeoff in maintenance cost is worth every cent for the upgrade in value and class. Lastly, most people don't keep their cars for 20 years. So as long as they are reliable within the window of ownership who cares what happens after.

    • @wren460

@@animmortalperspective4256 I have had Volvos as well. No comparison between Honda and Volvo in regards of costs, Honda is waaaay cheaper. Now, do you know why Volvo´s motto is " For life " ? Because resale value is so low you have to keep it for a looong time so you dont lose a lot of money when you sell it. Now, safety, Honda CRV is Top safety pick + , so, same safety as a Volvo. Last, Volvo is not a premium car , it wants to be, but it just doesnt. I like Volvo, my S60 was a great car, but definitely for moving from A to B there is nothing better tan Honda and Toyota.

@@wren460 Your response is silly. That Honda is an economy car. Volvo is a premium class vehicle. You can't change that. Whether you "think" it is or not doesn't matter. That's where it's objectively situated in the automotive hierarchy and reviewed as by industry professionals. Your uninformed Honda fan opinion cannot affect fact. Oh, and a Ford years S60 is hardly a good example of experience.
Regarding depreciation, all expensive luxury vehicles depreciate considerably. Ever look at Audi's numbers? Infiniti? It's just what happens when you have a larger trajectory. Also, those that can afford these vehicles aren't as concerned with such negligible things as those that can't. We can afford it.
Now ultimately, comparing the two in person is laughable. That loud, hard seated, low tech, bad accelerating little commuter is great from a to b for all those that can't afford to buy a premium vehicle in the class. For those of us who can, we just aren't interested in choosing a Honda. It's just too low rent.
