This is because the x2 is a sporty version of the X1 , like the x4 is to the x3 or the x6 is tot he x5... In this comparison they should of put the X1 , volvo and jag do not have a sporty version of their cars...

it's ok, I think is a good balance , of course it is not sporty like the T5 but it pulls more than enough, and most important thing for me, it is a very smooth and quiet engine.

P.S. BMW made me hate the X2 with their adverts - rather than advertising the car itself they advertise lifestyle and tell this BS about being different. I know most adverts are about lifestyle etc but BMW took it too far.

Ever since Matt had an XC60 he absolutely creams himself over Volvos... that said, Volvo have done a top job with the XC40....still if I had to have a compact the Jag, in grey with a black pack is sensational.

Anthony Dayspring99 well u are talking about the looks. Looks do not reflect driving or practicality which both are average at best. If u are speaking of looks, the jag is quite outdated on the inside IMO, not as nice as the XC40.

CM Adolf SXE hit the nail on the head. I’ve driven the Jag and the Volvo and that Volvo drove like a Mini Countryman (the wife and I went to check them out), the Jag drove sooooooooooo much better. nothing like any of Jags current stable XE to F Pace but the cost is lower. So Comments about the drive being poor is bullocks. Vs it’s peers its bloody good. Also, the Jag interior had character - like an F type. Whilst Volvo whilst well put together was meh. To be fair the Volvo wiped the floor with practicality and MSRP but the actual price you paid was cheaper on the Jag.

Earlier in the clips he says the X2 has the best handling, cornering, performance etc, but ends up saying the XC40 drivers the best!

I have owned Both the X2 and now a XC40 and yes the X2 corners better but overall the XC40 drives much better which really surprised me. i have also driven a E-Pace and fully agree the Volvo is the best out of these three

In my opinion the Jaguar looks too pathetic for its heritage and badge, it looks like a wannabe F-Pace but is too short and looks like an egg.
Only due to minor issues like the infotainment screen. Otherwise, the engine and transmissions are solid. BMW on the other hand had some catastrophic flaws with its diesel engines.
Is it reliable though? To me, that's the BIG QUESTION MARK. Nobody really knows yet.

Bmw x2 hands down. It's like a super-sized hatchback. The other two or just tpoor attempt at creating a cheap SUV. If you approach the bmw x2 as a pure SUV only then yes, it completely fails against the bigger guys like a tahoe, navigator or an escalade but it's not necessarily trying to be a small regular SUV it's going for that practicality and sportiness. The Volvo and jaguar jist fall short.in those areas looking like poor, smaller EU versions of American beasts.
The BMW is likely getting lots of attention whereas the other two are just tbeing overlooked by bigger cars in the SUV segment. Nothing screams uniqueness about them.
The X1 would be more appropriate than the X2 in this test, regardless of it being 2 years old. The X2 is trying to be sporty the X1 isn’t. The Jag is a 💩, Volvo is nice but the driving position isn’t great, unless it’s just me who has a problem with the clutch foot rest 🤔
Wish the x2 wasn’t unfairly matched up to the more practical x1 competitors....

Biggest plus for the BMW is their superb gearbox+engine+chassis combination which is probably the most important thing if you're the driver and not the passinger. But it seems they have made it a bit too stiff, and it looks quite smaller next to the others (for the money) and people who like these kind of cars want to look big.

The reason the X2 handles more tidily is because of the stiff suspension... not in spite of it.
The problem is none of these are SUVs. Without a proper locking low range gearbox, the utility factor is missing - an essential feature of an SUV is a locking low range gearbox. Without that none of these vehicles will be able to tow a trailer loaded with a jet ski on the beach. They are a cross between a wagon and a Utility Vehicle-- cross overs.

I think he BMW is easily the best looking if slightly less useful. Maybe the X1 is a better comparison to the others...with more utility.

Mx Jonson I think most BMW's are pretty ugly cars.i only really like the 3 series X drive estate and 5 series estate.compared to modern Volvo's they are awful.
Yeah, they have gotten too big and overstyled. I prefer the simpler design of the older m3s like the e92 or e46.
As for nowadays, I like their "real" sporty cars like the m2, m4 or m8 but overall I'd choose an audi or something else over a bmw.

My gosh. That XC40 is so gorgeous. I'm a bimmer boy, but boy that X2 has no appeal at all. Well deserved for the XC40. Just not a fan of the taillights, but that mean face is mesmerizing.

He keeps mentioning the 'cheap plastics' in the Volvo (a strip in the dash and a trim on the back door), something "you wouldn't find in a German car". Eh, ever sat in the back of a 5-series? The entire back of the driver and passenger seats is made of cheap, hard plastic. Not to speak about basically all VW's in all but the most luxurious trimlevels.

Just watched an Austailian review and he says the XC40 is a harder ride than the e pace and the same as the X2. WTFF. I’ve driven all three and he’s completely wrong. Matt, you’re spot on. The channel should be called don’tdrive.com!

Volvo for me
I like the E-Pace but I think Jaguar did a fantastic job with the F-Pace instead. It is difficult to justify for the E-pace higher sticker price (no apple car play, no android car play, cheap materials, poor mpg, sub par engines, sluggish infotainment). Ian Callum does a decent job with the design but Jaguar needs to step back and tweak lot of different things to bring it back to competition. Jaguar seriously need to work on their pricing and if they want to be called a premium brand they should use high end material (leather, wood) to make the cabin look much better. You cannot compete with merc, bmw and audi with substandard materials. Another thing, they might have got much better with reliability from where they were under FORD but it still needs lot of other detailing to gain customer confidence. People whoever wants to buy a Jaguar, the first question they ask before anything else is it looks fantastic but how reliable is Jaguar even though with a 5 yr/60 K warranty
Volvo maybe the best out of the lot but time will tell about the cheap Chinese parts reliability even though manufactured in Sweden.
Personally I will pick the Jaguar I-Pace instead

Appearance-wise, I prefer the Jag’s exterior, the BMW’s interior and the Volvo’s practicality.
I just don’t like the Volvo styling. Reminds me of a Jeep Compass. Although when it comes to the XC60/90, those are true beauties.

Not apples to apples comparison, you should be comparing the x1, not the X2, as the latter is the sporty and less practical version. The x1 matches the pricing of the other 2 also, the suspension is much more comfortable and by the way, the rear seats fold automatically in the x1 with a button as standard (in the UK at least). So really not a fair comparison here.
