    Your video solved the mystery of removing the oem pump from the housing of my 07RT. After banging my head against the wall for several hours, and about to surrender to ordering an oem pump, I found your video. The video showed the trick of carefully nudging the filter base from the pump housing and saved the day (and my wallet). Thank you so very much.

    A great video, showing all the handy things you need to know when cleaning the (non replaceable) fuel filter in an r1200gs. It's easy to watch and full of useful 'does ' and 'do nots' to make the job much easier and useful details of how the whole system works - thanks! :)

    Many Many Thanks for this....This is exactly the video I need. My bike performance after 122,500 miles has degraded at higher revs and top speed. It now only does 118MPH instead of 134-6 MPH of old. It feels like an odd fuel starvation issue, so this is a rabbit hole I will try to go down after going down others (coils/plugs/shaft drive). This is a 10x of my mechanical skills and the bike (2004 R1200 GS - No. 179 off the production line !!) Is at a holiday home in the Canary Islands....

    I recently bought an 07 1200GS, and after a week in, I was driving along with what I thought was over a half tank of gas left, and before I knew it I was on the side of the road without sgas. I can only guess it was fuel issue and after watching your video, which was VERY informative. I will be going over my fuel system here very soon. Thank you for such a great step by step video! I wish more people would go into such great detail.

    Really exceptionally instructive video - top marks!
    Minus for BMW that managed to make a super-complex assembly that could be easily simplified by design, with no need for a million different features.
    Also, minus for advertising a good-for-life part such as a filter! What is life? For some it is a few years, for others it is 10. For me it is 20. An easily replaceable, standard design filter - like that I have on my Ducati - would do, and make our life so much easier.
    I am surprised that the large pump assembly gasket changes size and ductility if not wetted by fuel. A Viton seal would keep its properties. I wonder why BMW has not adopted this material.
    I bought my bike new, after about 3 years I took it to a BMW dealer for regular maintenance. They found a few recalls from the factory, one was related to a "a plastic part of the gas tank that cracks". I wonder what this was (no explanation was given) but I was surprised BMW had released such a part.
    Final remark: instead of dipping a fuel line in warm water (aargh!) I would heat it up with an air dryer

    Hi my RT has got a rough idle problem can it be a symptom of clogged fuel filter ? besides rough idle and stalling it rides ok when not in idle

    • @bestrestproducts648
      @bestrestproducts648  2 года назад +1

      I doubt the rough idle is related to a clogged filter. Usually a clogged filter causes lack of power at higher RPM because the bike can't draw enough fuel thru the clogged filter. Instead I'd look to your injectors and/or timing and/or valve clearances. You should also look at your air filter and check that your gas is clean and fresh.

    • @bestrestproducts648
      @bestrestproducts648  Год назад

      I'm not a BMW tech so I'm not sure I'm qualified to give you a firm answer, BUT I think it's unlikely that the pump would build enough pressure to crack that housing. More likely, the crack was caused at time of factory install (over-torque). No way to fix it, no way to tell when it will fail. Best plan is to buy a new assembly.

    • @bestrestproducts648
      @bestrestproducts648  5 лет назад

      The teflon just ensures a good seal between the threads. The threads carry the load. All the fittings are plastic so the load can't be that high.
