Figure Note:
Stop-Motion Transformation of Magic Square MS-B56 Tyrannosaurus Rex. Good old Grimlock. This guy is a bit more “FansToys” mid-transformaiton than I would prefer, but he’s pretty good.

T-Rex to Robot: 0:09
Robot to T-Rex: 0:55
Speed run to Robot: 1:42
Speed run to T-Rex: 1:59
2x Run: 2:15
End credits: 2:32
Production Note: Much better workload for this than last week, that’s for sure!
Viewing Note:
If you want to follow along, I recommend skipping to the speed run and using your , and . keyboard keys to advance by single frames. Every step of the transformation is documented in the frames of the video, in what I consider to be the best sequence. With minimal rubbing and minimal parts-parking.
Music: The music is by Ethan Meixsell - www.ethanmeixsell.com
Songs: “Granite” and “Run” - Кино
i know it's cartoon accurate and all, but it's so unpainted that it still looks like a prototype... maybe some highlights in the chest or crotch would have helped. hope they release a toy version with a proper paint job :(
Name: Grimlock. Faction: Autobot. Function: Dinobot commander. Alt mode: Tyrannosaurus Rex. Subgroup: Dinobots. Motto:" Among the winners, there is no room for the weak."
This seems like a somewhat fairly SIMPLE, SHORT, UNCOMPLICATED transformation......
And I love it!
(mainly Cuz I think the ORIGINAL grimlock (die cast metal, paint) was much longer and more difficult, lol)
You need to tab the backback into the head column (all 4 vertical grey tabs) _before_ bringing up the side panels - and the front chest panel tabs in last.
If you're getting gaps in the robot shoulder area, that order of operations should remedy it.
Ah, I missed the bottom tabs. I was trying to manage how floppy the whole thing is during transformation and had hit upon the two side tabs being able to be inserted after the chest was together and forgot about the bottom tabs. It can still be done after the chest assembly but I should have shown those being leaned in as well.
I feel like every company is required by law to make a Grimlock/Dinobots lol
It would explain things.
Very cool video peolesdru
I just can't get down with the paint and plastics offered by MS. NA all the way, baby.
Interesting. I actually seek out MS for their materials.
@@peolesdru interesting indeed. What is it you like about the MS plastics. I find them to feel.... cheap.
@@TheTruthHz Their plastic is very sturdy and lends itself to the flat panel packing they like to do. I like the texture that results in a matte finish. I liked the finish on Transformers: Animated for the same reason.
@@peolesdru interesting to hear your thoughts on that. I understand your points, thank you for taking the time to explain. 👍
@@TheTruthHz My pleasure. I compare NewAge to FansToys and MagicSquare to MMC. Although I do pick up more NA than I do FT.
Impresionante la verdad
Interesting transformation. Like the G1 look but i dunno, it feels like it can break...
It's a combination of things. The small scale, the soft-looking plastic, the focus of the simpler cartoon aesthetic without much indulgence of greebles... It's a solid figure, but it conversely LOOKS like not a lot of care was put into it. lol
It was more inelegant than you'd expect from MS.
After owning SS86 Grimlock, a cartoon accurate version just looks so wrong to me.
The SS86 Grimlock was definitely a more toy-looking version. Given that it's a separate part, I suspect MS could make a toy version of this figure by replacing that part, among other paint changes.
@@peolesdru It would help, but the flat surfaces of the cartoon aesthetic don’t work in Grimlocks favour in my opinion. I also don’t like the less bulky limbs.
He seems a little plain to me. I dunno, I never really had any intention of getting this set though, so it doesn't matter to me. I had to do a double take on Dino mode turn around to see if what I saw was real. Interesting that he has a red eyes option in that mode.
When I was in post, I realized that people might think he had one red and one blue eye, but that would be resolved when I turn the dino head around 180 and you can see they're both blue. Good eye - I went to a bit of trouble to flip the eyes twice and realized in post that maybe no one would even notice.
I usually say ft's better, but I'm coming to like mmc and xtb better depending on what's not messed up. I'm finally realizing ft isn't what it's cracked up to be
Welcome to the dark side!
