Amazing that SY were 25 years into their career when they released this song
This song is one of their latest examples of how they master all their playing techniques.
Tremolo picking, harmonics, abstract tunings, the combination of effects, melodies and bridge, catchy but precise lyrics, Steve drumming is on point, clear and noisy, Kim bass crunch is always the strawberry on the cake carrying all that noise.
Just beautiful.
@danielalessandri6425 Why the double bass player tho
A band that’s always stayed true to their sound. Never changed it for anyone
I have been watching this performance every night, since I "discovered" it a few months ago. Came across it by sheer accident. Incredible
I'm addicted too. They were so good together.
It came out years ago was taken down and put back up lucky accident
Why is this video and song so addicting?
Same here. I listen to a bunch of SY plus Thurston's amazing solo stuff every day.
Btw you use the writing name I ripped off from "that guy" who didn't want to use his own name, except I go Samuel Clemens XXIII and haven't published anything.
Please bring this kind of music back into mainstream!
I watch this probably twice a month no matter what
It sounds spot on too. Love it. Them old days, sometimes I wish I could press rewind go back to zero.
Lee Ranaldo added some improvisation which sounded absolutely great
Double bass.. amazing
That's Mark Ibold on the bass.
God. You can tell they simply love playing this song. What a legendary band.
That's how every basement should be!
I fucking love Steven Shelley.
should be called Steve Shelley and the Sonic Youth. that man carries this band on his back. Always an excellent band, excellent performance.
Que exagerado.
He was definitely the engine room for SY!
Bs this band works in unison and all of them together are sonic youth. Sonic youth doesn’t exists without all members. I’d say the band would agree as well.
Those in the know know about Steve. But to say he carries this band on his back is ridiculous, sorry but SY is the fruit of the universe bringing together 4 extremely talented and hard working artists. What your seeing in this set is high art.
Carries the band on his back? What a load of horse shit.
This rhythm section should be taught in the music schools around the world
what wouldn't I do to get a chance to watch them live...
What a beautiful song
My favorite track from Rather Ripped! Thank you, FTB!
Just realized, this is one of the best R'nR'-Intros ever, and this piece consists almost entirely of Intro. Cascade of Energy! Thank You So Much S.Y.!
Epic! The only time they played in my city Guadalajara, Mexico I could not attend was a teenager without my parents' permission and without money, it is one of the few things I regret in my life not attending that concert.
¿En qué año? :(
Emmo Hernández En el 2007 se presentaron en la Expo
Qué dolor bro, lo siento. :( A Colombia creo que ni han venido.
You think you'd get over it by now. Best of luck
No point regretting it, out of your control- but think how fortunate we can sit back and watch this performance now :)
Watching this in a pandemic just makes me miss live music SO much.
Just wear your face diaper and get your monthly b00$ters and everything will return to normal. They promise.
no words can´t describe the greatness of this song
My favorite band ever 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
S Y was and still are one of the most influencuel bands in musical history such a great video thanks
How long have I waited for this to be officially published
I just come by to run you over
I just come by to watch you quiver
You can come, you can run inside, babe
Killer eyes and a burning heart, babe
Don't you know you need no other
Im the man who loves your mother
Open up your arms to me, girl
Let me feel your wild heart beat, girl
Sweet lips, flowers and cream
Deep in love, surrender pink steam
Deep in love, you need no other
Deep in love, your lonely lover
Open up to me
Lonely lover
Feel your wild heart beat
Lonely mother
Your sweet lips are mine
Like flowers and cream
Killer killer eyes
Surrender pink steam
this song makes my brain melt and my heart stop beating
Un sommet du Rock, quatre guitaristes! une batterie...Et un côté symphonique, de longues plages sonores....Cool!!
wow...oh my god!!
Eargasm!!!!!!
this is such a pristine performance
Was sure this was an instrumental the first time I heard it. Great song from a great, great band.
My first live show when I was 15 in 2004! It was AMAZING! They pulled a double encore and finished the set with Teenage Riot! This track right here tho! What a performance!
Thank god i was able to see them live twice in my lifetime. Excellent band, other worldly.
Amazing band! What a find!
No way you just discovered them
This is stupidly good still. Like criminally good
Una verdadera obra maestra!! Amo a Sonic Youth! Tuve la fortuna de verlos dos veces en CDMX, fueron conciertos legendarios!
Unos genios!❤️
cool af
Sencillamente increíble 🔥
Excellent realisation of this brilliant song……they sound so tight!! One of my favourite sy songs
Magnífic Sonic Youth

Que pedazo de tema hermano estos tipos son una locura
God i remember when i heard this album and sonic nurse. They became my favorite Sy albums tell this day.
Rather ripped came out on my 16th birthday im 32 and this song still gives me such a beautiful moment always
uf, lo más
So good *sigh*
So much better live! 😊
Genius
He escuchado este tema mil veces y juro que lo seguiré haciendo, no tan solo por la composición instrumental, más bien por la letra que, cobra un sentido particular en mí.
“sweet lips, flowers and cream”
Lovely
Feel high
Their last really great song.
💙
wow
I actually like the but at the start when they are tuning
Ufffff.... Ufff ....OMG
Wow
❤️
Show me one other band that can do this. Radiohead is my favourite band, but even they can't make a song like this.
Yeah, ok😂
I can't quite work out how the two bassists thing is working here. Must be subtle, just like the incredible way the two guitarists play together. Either way it's fantastic.
They engaged the other Bassist Jim O'Rouke, so Kim could Dance More (her words)!!!!!!!! She cant even play bass! I think that's why Thurston left her, bad bassist, bad dancer, expensive shoes,
@@lachlanpaul2590 that’s Mark Ibold
que aula meus amigos
te vuela la cabeza
Fuck. Look at them. All of them. It's my all time fav SY tune.
Who is greatest band of all time, and why Sonic Youth ?
Logically this makes no sense… but when I listen to this song I can only think it’s the best thing they ever did. And they recorded a lot of superb songs.
Shit ton of their songs! They sound like they pulled the songs from the ether for us mortals to hear for ourselves. Rain on tin & Pink Steam are definitely like that for me.
@@LikeigiveAFaboutUPulled from the ether is a perfect description.
Despues de esta canción no había nada más que hacer, llegaron a su punto más alto y se desintegraron.
For a couple years I actually thought “the basement” was a place Radiohead recorded 😂 In the last month I’ve discovered at least 40-50 videos of amazing bands and many were new to me. I know sonic youth, but not like this. I love the basement sessions so much.
Every video recorded in my studio is called “Manupod Sessions” as sort of a shoutout to the band that inspired me to become a musician and gave me a career for over a decade!
Oh man what id do to see a basement session with The Mars Volta before they officially end the final chapter of their story…
The drummer is a monster. The drumsticks are too small for him.
Steve Shelley and he eats drums for fun

Kneel
No way!
That’s jazz.
Kim Gordon is such a cool chick. I don't get why Thurston dumped her for a younger girl
Cmon meng.
Kim’s chords are cool but Younger trim always wins.
thurston always sounds like a 16 year old
stronda
Ty segall on the second bass?
Not criticizing but why the double bass on this song?
She's doing more texture stuff with her sound. He on the other hand, like Steve Shelley, is holding on to the foundation of this song. It ends sounding amazing doesn't it?
cool song i guess
Why’s there two bassists?
why not?
Because....
La putamadre...
Cringe.
Looks like ur the only cringe here...
That was pretty good!
