      Boy these are all great performances. Especially Maximum Overdrive (P.S. King hasn't done anything interesting since he kicked booze and cocaine)! This is reminding me of when Spielberg told Kubrick that Jack Nicholson was over the top in The Shining. And Kubrick responded by saying that depends on what you consider to be great acting. He cited James Cagney as being great. And of course Peter Sellers was brilliant to him. Check out the guy in the wheelchair in Clockwork Orange. Kubrick kept saying "bigger". "Give me more!" The guy thought he was gonna shit his pants by the end of the scene. He was drooling for Christ's sake. Did you forget Tony Montana? Gotta say, I'd rather see this than the tepid, unimaginative, derivative, pretentious, self important crap that usually drizzles across the screen. At least I'm entertained.

      *Abhishek Choudary* Psst... They are American. Subtext - or good actors doing their best with bad text - is hard for them to understand. Let it go.

    Vampires Kiss entirely relies on Nick Cage's overacting... it really would have been a boring movie if it weren't for him being over the top insane through the whole thing...

    • @alexw9544
      @alexw9544 7 лет назад +5

      Agreed. Vampires Kiss is also black comedy at its darkest. Even my 84 year old grandma loved that fucking movie because she thought Cage was great.

    • @TheKueiJin
      @TheKueiJin 7 лет назад +4

      Problem is, people don't know one of the best vampire depictions out there, name the World of Darkness... and in there there is a bloodline of vampires called Malkavians, those guys make insane look like Oxford Undergrads. VtM:B is a vampire game set in WoD theme, and there's a literally different story depicted from the eyes of the Malkavians, everything from you (the vampire) arguing with a god damn STOP sign, from the news anchor on the god damn TV accusing you of doing various destructive actions, of which you did. However, to paraphrase another character in the game, "If you have the time to scrape off the shitstorm that resides in the Malkavians mind, you got yourself a gold mine." because these particular bloodline curse is it's greatest weapon, since the voices that it perceives and make these poor creatures go mad are the actual thoughts and... well... white noise of the world, filtered directly by their meager brains... The poor things perceive everything, physical, mental and spiritual, and it kills them. Worse still, they will always be under the impression that white noise is their thoughts, for me that would literarily be the worst hell imaginable, never being capable of knowing if your mind is working against you or not.

      Winslow Wilson
      yeah he's good because over the top and bad acting don't go hand in hand. Just cause 1 is over the top doesn't mean it's not good, I watched Face-Off just the other day love it like it was my 1st viewing, but both he and Travolta were over the top Nic was Nic but Travolta more than he's ever been. "Oooowwwee u good looking!!!" LOL so over the top yet still great performances by both.
      No matter how OTT Nic may be it doesn't negate he can act or has acting talent. I'd take his performance over these "movie stars" who just plain can't act anyday. There's times when I just think "how TF are they in films big films at that?" Then I remember they are good looking or popular.

      King hasn't done anything ballsy post Misery -- when he quit cocaine and alcohol. Understood -- he didn't want to loose his family, but shit, that was some high octane stuff he was putting out in the 70s and early 80s. Lars von Trier recently commented on sobriety saying something to the effect that the Rolling Stones are only magical when you know they recorded a song after finishing off a bottle of Jack Daniels. Same would go for The Doors. Did anybody want a sober Jim Morrison? Best he died young. That woman getting machine gunned in Maximum Overdrive after blowing a circuit herself is awesome. Loved it as a kid, love it now.

      Yep, it was an entertaining movie - loved the steampunk stuff (there's nowhere near enough of that in movies), the leads were an amusing double-act, and Branagh was a very watchable and wonderfully hissable villain :)
      I guess the movie fell foul of the rampant political-correctness of the time, with critics deeming the Loveless character's constant racial taunts (at Smith) and cripple taunts (at himself) to be unfit subjects for humor, making audiences self-conscious and uneasy about enjoying the movie.
      Future (less uptight) audiences will rediscover the movie and wonder why such an entertaining and inventive film flopped so hard.

    This list would be better titled "Most Memorable Moments from Terrible Films." 'Over -Acting' is a sorry trope that means nothing. Say outrageous performance, or melodrama, or physical acting, or bad acting, or really anything that isn't making everyone who isn't an actor even less able to accurately speak about the art form. Propagating this kind of psuedo-critique is damaging to real life actors and people who value critical thinking.

      I agree! I always feel like I'm crazy when people say they hated it. But I watched that dang movie constantly, growing up.

    You forgot every moment Orlando Bloom has ever been on a movie screen

      Yes, that's quite interesting. He always seems to go under the radar for some reason, yet I can't think of another actor that literally overacts every single line in every single appearance. You can tell him to nonchalantly say "hi there" to a girl in a jazz pub and he'll accentuate literally everything while twitching like he's on speed because he's trying to do facial micro acting.

    What about instead of just continuing to pick on the same “bad” movies, you choose moments from movies that are actually supposed to be critically acclaimed?

    The waitress melting down was my favorite part of Maximum Overdrive.

    Have to disagree with the last one completely. Kenneth Branagh's character was actually my favorite of that film. The film as a whole may not make a Top 100 list, it was still entertaining. The dialogue, delivery and timing Branagh used (IMHO) was hilarious (again, in an entertaining way). I've seen way worse, in fact ANY of Nicholas Cage's films are "typically" going to make that list. Hahah ;-)
