Kiss Kiss Bang Bang should definitely have made the list! Brilliant dialogue, great performances by Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer, and a fantastic storyline.
Yes! Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a hugely underrated film and a brilliantly smart comedy. It's rare to see films like it that are sophisticated, stylish and whip-smart satirical comedy films! Better still, it has a twist being a clever neo-noir send-up!
One Hour Photo....a real study into loneliness and the human psyche. Oddly enough, all the guy did before and after was basically music videos for top 40 artists, but I'll argue this film any day of the week. Incredible performance by Robin Williams. He was taking a lot of chances in that era for sure and showing his non-comedic range.

He'll be in the upcoming movie/game Death Stranding with Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl Dixon in TWD. That game's created by the legend Hideo Kojima, and Mikkleson's acting in it looks really good.
I've only seen him in a few films (valhalla rising, king arthur, clash of the titans, have the first season of hannibal but haven't watched it yet), but i love watching him!
Geoffrey Schotte I saw it in college with a friend of mine who had to watch it for a film class (she was studying cinematography). We sat there in complete silence through the whole thing (normally we'd chat through the movies) and when it was over, we looked at each other and just let out this huge sigh. What an incredible treat that was. I really should get myself a copy!
I found it really badly paced -- uneven to the point of near-whiplash -- but what it had going for it was a *lot*, notably the historical accuracy, the strength of the leading roles, and some of the battle scenes were downright superlative. The one where Balian takes his men out of the castle to engage Sulahadin despite enormous odds -- and in particular the first moment of impact -- stays with a person a long, long, *lonnnnnnnng* time afterward.

I never got over the kid in the church and hated watching the entire movie as a result. I didn’t even know it was funny until someone told me. I think I even hated Colin Ferrel for a few years after that movie.
Angry Applesauce Oh so good. The story structure, the plot, the banter and witty dialogue, the modern noir vibe, the humor, the acting, the characters. So much love. Forget the title. Just watch.
The Fall is really a remake of an old obscure Bulgarian movie named Yo Ho Ho. Apart from changing the young male actor with a young female one, it is a quite straight up remake. A few other Korean films I'd recommend if you love Oldboy are "New World" and "I Saw the Devil". Partially because they both also star Choi Min-Sik, but also because they're both incredible films. Highly recommended!!
In Bruges is one of my favourite films of all time. Gleason is brilliant, Farrell showcases skills in this movie that we have rarely seen from him, and Fiennes is Fiennes (which means he's great). What about Dredd (Urban version)? I think that's one of the most visually exceptional movies in quite some time.
The Fall is unspeakably beautiful & one of my favorite. The Fountain is also superb. Both of these are so visually full of texture! Also great plot. Well worth watching.
The Lives of Others, 2006, German movie, Won an Oscar for best foreign movie. I don't claim it's underrated but it's a wonderful movie and the best recommendation I can give you.
In Bruges is one of those movies I can watch several times over and always enjoy. That and Watchmen, I get why it's not on the list, but I would call it under appreciated to the average viewer.
matthieuriolo Something very popular can't be underrated. lol I don't think you know what underrated means. Watchmen was one of the biggest movies so it can't be underrated.
Ppl should stop using the word underrated as a substitute to mean not commercially successful. Movies like In Bruges, The Fall, Mary & Max ...etc. we're rated...by lots of critics and were highly praised. Something good that was passed off as average or terrible by critics and pundits but is in fact worth a look, listen, taste or whatever the case, would be an item or experience that was underrated.
I've seen it in 2009 or 2010 and I totally loved it, but I don't remeber that he ever tried to leave the moon... I'm sure there was a similar scene in Interstellar instead.
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is an incredible film, completely underrated and an amazing musing of fan culture and media, an amazing story, great acting, everything about this film is perfect.
My all time favorite. I can put it on at any moment in the film and enjoy. The historically accurate dialogue and the amazing cinematography mixed with exquisite acting, not to mention the story of a true American outlaw, make it one of the most amazing films ever created. . .
Take Shelter (2011) is easily one of the most underrated/underappreciated movies I've ever seen. Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain are phenomenal in their respective roles and the fact that the film itself didn't get serious awards recognition is seriously baffling to me. It's one of my all-time favourite movies and I hope more people get the chance to experience it. If you enjoy mind-bending movies that reward you on repeat viewings, then you'll adore Take Shelter.
How is Layer Cake not of the list, it's the movie that made Daniel Craig James Bond, it starts some of todays biggest actors before they were super famous.
The movie made $11.9 million in box office and isn't well known to the general public, and only has one awful trailer I would say it qualifies for this list.
OMG Thank you for including The Fall!!!! I have loved this movie since the first time I saw it. It is just breathtakingly beautiful and completely surprising. I hope this encourages more people to watch and appreciate it!!
The interaction with the Girl and Lee Pace has always brought tears into my eyes, her desperately trying to help him or be with him just warms my heart all the way hoping they embrace and feel love and joy! Ive teared many a times also the beauty was lost on me when it came to the climax or that scene in which he tries to die
The trailer looks like it was made in the 80s/90s. Trailers show too much nowadays, but back then they made no fucking sense whatsoever. You couldn't get the tone of a movie from watching a trailer.
The Life Aquatic is not only the most underrated Wes Anderson movie, but one the most underrated and underappreciated EVER. Every line of the movie is pure gold and the music is as good as it gets. SO SO AMAZING.
josh1333100 $10million worldwide is a success? Deserved at least $300m. Should of been up for best picture and at least two best supporting as well as best actors. Although imdb 79, and rotten tomatoes 86 are indeed not too shabby.
+TomgkTV... I don't remember exactly how it ends (although I do remember him NOT dying), but it was fucking amazing movie indeed. I remember having sat down to watch it out of boredom cause I had just watched all of the blockbusters of that time and wanted to watch another good movie, but - like I said - I had already watched all of them, and I sat down to watch Moon with little expectations. Needless to say the movie (more specifically, the hidden plot) kept me watching for 1 more minute, and another one... and another one... until the finale came and had my jaws dropping. I think I stood there in the chair during the ending credits rolling and contemplated what I had just seen for like 2-3 minutes straight (maybe more) before I even managed to close the VLC player, and even after I had closed it I was still unable to do anything for 1-2 more minutes. Just sat there in the chair and thought about how interesting and unpredictable the movie was :) ... Oh well, since we're at this anyway, may I also recommend Spectral (2016) to everyone? That movie was still kind of "under the radar" (well, I haven't heard / seen any trailer of it anyway, and only heard about the movie 1 year later), and - just like Moon - it was also underrated and extremely good movie. Seriously, go watch that movie everyone. It fucking kicks ass
The cool thing about Moon is that the plot twist is basically the setup of the movie. The core of the movie is then about how to deal with the consequences of that twist. A very smart movie that plays out in an unexpected way.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, I'm Not There, and In Bruges are amongst my favourite movies. Everyone I know who has watched the The Life Aquatic loves that film.
The strange thing is that I think I have seen almost all of them, and yet none has left any strong memories of 'wow - that was great'. Moon had a massive plot flaw in it but it started well (very reminiscent of Silent Running), The Guard was somewhat gentle with the IRA, In Bruges was fresh so I would recommend that, The Fall seemed to put all its energy into making pretty images, and I think I saw Mary and Max and The Fountain, and The Life Aquatic, but none stayed with me. I might give The Grey a chance, and possibly Valhalla Rising (although that looks a bit grim).
As for both Sunshine and Children of Men, if a movie is based on such a stupidly impossible initial premise (the Sun has to be reignited in 50 years? or ALL? women suddenly are unable to conceive?), then at least it shouldn't take itself seriously. Like I don't mind, Star Wars, LoTR or Spiderman - it's a fairy tale and it acts like one, so it's fine. We shouldn't be expected to give a creative license to any half-assed, lazy, brainless idea! Like they had no imagination to come up with a reason for a spaceship to go to the Sun? Or for a man to take care of a pregnant woman?
Agreed. It came out when Elizabethtown, Doom, Saw 2, Waiting, and The Legend of Zorro. For that time the actors/awaited films were far ahead of RDJ and an aging Val Kilmer. For 2005 those movies hyped out Kiss Kiss.
Please understand that 'underrated' does not mean 'movie I never heard of', especially when one is hardly a movie fan, what is pretty obvious given the content of the videos. Seriously, 5 out of 10 movies mentioned received very positive reviews and awards and were also vastly popular among intended audiences. 'Moon' received rave reviews and was praised for being a rare hard-sf gem among modern science fiction movies. Script and performance were also noted for being top-notch. Nominated to 17 prestigious awards, won good half of them. 'The Guard' became and instant cult classic in Ireland, was considered the best movie of the year and gathered almost unanimously positive reviews (e.g. 94% rating on RT if this means anything). Again, nominated for almost twenty awards, won good half of them. 'Mary and Max' also received universally positive reviews, mainly thanks to great voice acting, clever script and well-executed black comedy. It also generated large revenue in all countries that screened it (for some reason in USA ot has been only released as video on demand). 'In Bruges' was universally praised, especially being a début for director and writer. Most reviews stress the great performance of the main cast and the intelligently contrived plot. Received several awards including Golden Globe. 'The Fall' and 'Valhalla Rising' received a similar treatment - these movies were almost universally praised by critics abroad for non-standard approach, but were also criticised for somehow incoherent plot that was by far outweighed by elaborate visuals (although the review were still pretty favourable). According to some American critics, 'The Fall' was one of the best movies of 2008, even accounting for the fact it was virtually a glamourized remake of the Bulgarian movie from the 1980's.
I told a couple of buddies to watch it and they hated it... so weird cuz I thought is was the most thought provoking movie I have seen in many many years. I felt like I was living vicariously through the lives of two hitman that hated their choices in their lives and it was really interesting to say the least.
i love that movie to man, one of Mads Mikkelsens best performances. however, i understand that alot of people wont like this movie, the pace is slow, no dialog, its far from a mainstream movie, but that is one of the things that sets it apart, and in my eyes is a true masterpiece :)
The second half is just... too narrow. It becomes psychedelic, and then loose breath. Was on my to watch list. Glad I saw it. I was let down tho (maybe it was the epicness of Dunkirk, I just saw days before VR).
In Bruges was HUGE!!! What qualifies as "underrated", because in my books, an Oscar nomination, Golden Globe win and many other awards don't place a movie in an underrated category. The Fountain, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful movies ever made :)
I just commented the same thing! One of my all time favorite films. I can understand why it didn't do well, not the 'action' film people thought it would be but I just love everything about it. Still my favorite Deakins film too.
Yeah I'd forgot about that, it almost feels like a much older film somehow as if it as filmed in the 80's, one of Brad Pitt's best efforts imo. It's got an eerie vibe throughout the entire movie especially the voiceover talking about how Jesse James was getting increasingly paranoid, suffering from rheumatism and would look at the entails of chickens for omens, very revealing. Another good movie with Sam Rockwell, he seems to pick the good ones, I also enjoyed the one with Rockwell, Colin Farrell and Christopher Walkden with Woody Harleson as the Gangster, great movie.
the iron way It wasn't weak it just wasn't an action flick rolling along at a million miles an hour, to me it felt more like a low budget indie flick that ends up becoming a cult movie. It was definitely about characters and from what I've learned very close to the true story, I agree Casey Afleck was great in it and it was mostly the story about him, Jesse James and why he did what he did, but ultimately he gained no happiness from his deed and just ended up making Jesse James more of hero while he was just known the coward. When the guy came to kill him in the end it was like he welcomed that bullet, his life had turned to shit and even his own brother left him by committing suicide because he couldn't live with what he'd done. Like I said great story and wonderfully narrated by Afleck.
Good call on In Bruges. I would also add a brilliant comedy and parody of musical biopics, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. It was well received by critics, but a box office bomb. It does turn up occasionally on cable, unlike pretty much every film in this list, so perhaps it's not quite underrated enough.
Phone One Dude that is a documentary! Everyone is getting stupider! Especially in our government! I’d rather have the President in Idiocracy than the one we have now!
@@louisbrugnoni1291 we aren't heading into Idiocracy. That would be an improvement. Proof? We don't give people the jobs based on their intelligence. The president in the movie is a man willing to admit his faults and hand the reigns over to someone competent, ours is not and would not. And when's the last time you got a BJ at Starbucks? I _wish_ we were in Idiocracy, things would at least only be able to go up.
Terrific breakdown. I really enjoyed Apocalypto visually, for pace, action. It's a rollercoaster that moves like Jason Bourne in a setting that's rarely been presented.
It's called Psytrance ;). More particularly "full-on psytrance". Seeing this is the first comment I've found regarding the music, I thought I'd chip in ^^. Even more so, I'd like to know artist + trackname haha!
I am totally agree with you about The Fountain, The Fall, In Bruges & The Grey..They all leave an impact on me and so beautifully made..I never watch The Guard and I cant wait to see it.
Moon is one of the best movies I've ever seen. It subverts every expectation for where the story is going, and *minor spoiler* doesn't follow the trend of hipster indie movies having an extremely hopeless and depressing ending. It's just such a unique and brilliant movie, I love it.
That movie pissed a lot of people off, including me, due to its extreme historical inaccuracy. The mayan's were dead when the spanish showed up. They writers were given the best story in the last 2000 years to use as a base and fucked it all up.
Then I would imagine Wikapedia and accepted history must also piss you off eh? In 1517, Francisco Hernández de Córdoba set sail from Cuba with a small fleet.[92] The expedition sailed west from Cuba for three weeks before sighting the northeastern tip of the Yucatán Peninsula. The ships could not put in close to the shore due to the coastal shallows. However, they could see a Maya city some two leagues inland. The following morning, ten large canoes rowed out to meet the Spanish ships, and over thirty Maya boarded the vessels and mixed freely with the Spaniards.[93] The following day the conquistadors put ashore. As the Spanish party advanced along a path towards the city, they were ambushed by Maya warriors. Thirteen Spaniards were injured by arrows in the first assault, but the conquistadors regrouped and repulsed the Maya attack. They advanced to a small plaza upon the outskirts of the city en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_conquest_of_the_Maya
Nicolas Brandon No, The Guard just shouldn't have been. I love The Nice Guys and I don't doubt that The Guard is a great movie either, but neither of them is from the 2000's so neither should be on this list.
Arch Angel Gabriel it's got talked about plenty. hell, it's basically hours of people talking. but yes, it's great movie. kinda have 12 angry men's feel to it.
Marc Weldon very good film and a great story told with such an imagination you literally knew the kind of man his dad was.. And felt the realisation of his son that he'd never appreciated the great man that was his dad until it was almost too late.. I found it brought tears to my eyes at the end.. Not ashamed of that at all
Meh.... I'd rate it a 6. And thats just because I just finished watching valhalla rising, after which any other movie will jump at least 3 points in ratings.
Flyingdutchy33 I understand where you are coming from!, but compared to recent semi low budget movies, this is a hidden jewel✨✨ 💍✨✨ Very suspenseful!!😎
Not sure if the movie Phone Booth (2002) counts as an underrated film. Its a great movie with superb acting, I gained a lot of respect for Colin Farrell as an actor after watching it.
Subject two. Not a horror film, at least other than existential horror at the exploration of life without feeling. The Man from Earth - Jerome Bixby's swan song is as low budget as you can get, it's shot mostly in the room of a house, with a dozen characters having a conversation. But it's the most interesting and mind blowing conversation any group of people could ever have, ever.
Fantastic movie. I've recommended it to several people after I watched it. Yeah, it's just a bunch of people talking for the entire film, but I was seriously glued to the screen the entire time. It's the most amazing story you'll ever hear, and REALLY makes you think after you've watched it.
The Fall and The Fountain, without question two of the most awe-inspiring cinematic experiences I have ever seen. I disagree, however, with the suggestion that The Fountain is unfocused. The exercise in making this film, I think, was challenging the correlation between multiple simultaneous story lines, each of which informs the main theme of searching for eternal life in contrasting yet identical narratives. Each narrative plays an essential role in supporting and informing the grand conflict, but at the same time, each is seeded by the necessity of the grand conflict. It's truly a mind-bending experience you just have to see for yourself.
I think it's one of the most visually stunning movies of all time. Top 3 at least. Took me a few viewings to really take in the entirety of the film's meaning though. Very dense
Life Aquatic is my favorite movie. First Wes Anderson movie I'd seen and I've seen them all multiple times since. One of the few movies I knew I'd love from the first trailer. Fantastic Mr. Fox and Rushmore are also up there among my favorites.
I didn't like the grey at all. tried to watch it 3 times and couldn't make it through the movie. The guard is great tho. And moon while not popular with the public was a critical slam dunk.
"The Lives of Others" (2006): Americans should be REQUIRED to see this film in order to vote. Hell, they should have their eyelids taped open and be forced to watch it like the dude in "A Clockwork Orange".
I collect films I really like (most of them are foreign, but not all). I own the Lives of Others. Great, great film. I also own Pan's Labyrinth. Love the beautiful dark scenery in Del Toro's films.

I agree. That movie was so good. I was scrolling down the comments waiting for someone to mention that movie.
No question one of the best movies of the last 20 years.
In Bruges is one of those movies I can watch several times over and always enjoy. That and Watchmen, I get why it's not on the list, but I would call it under appreciated to the average viewer.
Watchmen was huge and overrated.
matthieuriolo Something very popular can't be underrated. lol I don't think you know what underrated means. Watchmen was one of the biggest movies so it can't be underrated.
Rorschach: None of you seem to understand. I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with *ME*!
The makers of this list aren't exactly geniuses though, are they?
I haven't seen any of them. Which is your favorite of the three movies you mention above? Personally I loved Moon.
Amen!
@@thewhat531 In Bruges was good.
Apocalypto was a brilliant movie and far underrated.
whm5609 that was a very good film.
You nailed it. It was so incredible one of my all time favorites
One of the best movies I've ever seen
agreed. serpentine.
sorry but it was sheit mate
Moon was fantastic
ApocGuy And so realistic! Like when he shot himself from the moon to an Earth reentry in a trash can.
I've seen it in 2009 or 2010 and I totally loved it, but I don't remeber that he ever tried to leave the moon... I'm sure there was a similar scene in Interstellar instead.
Its so good it has been added to school curriculum in film studies in at a level
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is an incredible film, completely underrated and an amazing musing of fan culture and media, an amazing story, great acting, everything about this film is perfect.
My all time favorite. I can put it on at any moment in the film and enjoy. The historically accurate dialogue and the amazing cinematography mixed with exquisite acting, not to mention the story of a true American outlaw, make it one of the most amazing films ever created. . .
I'll watch this. Thanks for the recommendation mate
Yes this is an absolutely amazing film!
Madison Hutton I've been hearing this for a while now I'm definitely going to watch it today
Everyone raves about Affleck and Pitt in that, but it’s Sam Rockwell ftw, all day, every day.
Valhalla Rising has something of Dark Souls. Savage, mute, raw beauty.
the guard made my day, cheers
Take Shelter (2011) is easily one of the most underrated/underappreciated movies I've ever seen. Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain are phenomenal in their respective roles and the fact that the film itself didn't get serious awards recognition is seriously baffling to me. It's one of my all-time favourite movies and I hope more people get the chance to experience it. If you enjoy mind-bending movies that reward you on repeat viewings, then you'll adore Take Shelter.
On your description I decided to give it a watch. It looks really interesting.
Happy to hear it, my friend. I hope you enjoy it.
The soundtrack is also something else.
Yeah. The soundtrack by David Wingo is so hauntingly effective.
just watched it this week. very interesting movie, I enjoyed it, but not rewatchable
How is Layer Cake not of the list, it's the movie that made Daniel Craig James Bond, it starts some of todays biggest actors before they were super famous.
because it was a hit and is well regarded.
The movie made $11.9 million in box office and isn't well known to the general public, and only has one awful trailer I would say it qualifies for this list.
nobody ever seems to know Layer Cake. Its a straight classic
Classic movie. Yes, Morty!
read the title 'underrated' movies
OMG Thank you for including The Fall!!!! I have loved this movie since the first time I saw it. It is just breathtakingly beautiful and completely surprising. I hope this encourages more people to watch and appreciate it!!
The interaction with the Girl and Lee Pace has always brought tears into my eyes, her desperately trying to help him or be with him just warms my heart all the way hoping they embrace and feel love and joy!
Ive teared many a times also the beauty was lost on me when it came to the climax or that scene in which he tries to die
Whenever people ask me what my favourite movie is, I say The Fall. And when they ask what it is, I gush.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang! is the most underrated film of all time.
Second Hand Lions
In bruges is my fav film ever. It has the best music as well.
You have to see seven psycopaths then...
The trailer is kinda wrong tho. The movie is much more serious than it may look.
I kept wanting to watch it. Cannot get through it. Awful film. And I like strange stuff.
i loved it
The trailer looks like it was made in the 80s/90s.
Second only to The Royal Tenenbaums.
It was also unwatchable.
One of my favorites 👍
"Sexy Beast". One of the essential films in any collection.
OMG, 10000 TIMES YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES.
One of my favorites! Glad someone's mentioned it.
A fantastic film. But a critical and commercial success so don't see how it fits into this category.
josh1333100 $10million worldwide is a success? Deserved at least $300m. Should of been up for best picture and at least two best supporting as well as best actors. Although imdb 79, and rotten tomatoes 86 are indeed not too shabby.
quick vid He probably didn't like it because his hero in the film was bu##fuc#ed and then later shot. Hehehoho.
In Bruges is the one I have been recommending to people for years.
THANK YOU for putting in The Fall!
It's such a great movie!
OMG, the Fall is breathtaking! As a cinematographer, one of my favorites! oh, and Tchidedy, thy eyes on your profile...... amazing.
Brendon Gleeson really might be a top 5 actor of all time.
He's incredible in _The Tailor of Panama._ Great underrated film as well.
Sunshine was massively underrated, one of Danny Boyle's best films I think.
because of the 3rd act.
Surprised by "In Bruges": it was outstanding
The Fall is one of the best movies i've ever seen and also really emotional in the end...you should definitly watch it!!
In Bruges is one of my absolute favorite movies ever. I thought this movie was just brilliant!
I've watched "Mary and max" at least 5 times. It's beautiful
I really loved it too, such a moving piece of arr
prepare to cry
I didn't cry
I'm excited to watch it already!
Mary and Max was tediously uninteresting before we stopped watching about half-way through.
I watched Moon. That movie was awesome. Huge plot twist.
カラス 死神Karasu Shinigami he dies at the end
"Moon" is a very interesting film, I really like it.
The cool thing about Moon is that the plot twist is basically the setup of the movie. The core of the movie is then about how to deal with the consequences of that twist. A very smart movie that plays out in an unexpected way.
In Bruges is just so great!!
You can skip The Grey, too.
Lloyd! I’ve never run into a comment of yours! This is amazing, made my day.
Can you recommend any Wow movies which are underrated ?
@@wyattjensen9628 I was so confused!
If The Life Aquatic didn't stick with you, you weren't paying attention.
SUNSHINE by Danny Boyle and maybe Children of Men there are I think quite a few others
Cris Nally YES!
Spot on with both. Children of Men is seriously underrated. Sunshine also doesn't get enough credit.
FUCK YES... Sunshine is another epic Danny Boyle film (like pretty much all of his!) Cillian Murphy is bloody excellent in that film. Great call dude!
Edward Hill I fully agree, Children of Men is superb! It's got to be one of my favourite films of that decade. Clive Owen has done some great stuff.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is one of the most underrated movies, imo.
yeah... This, and Lucky Number Slevin... both great (underrated) movies :)
I would not say that movie is underrated it just took a little while to find it's audience.
Agreed. It came out when Elizabethtown, Doom, Saw 2, Waiting, and The Legend of Zorro. For that time the actors/awaited films were far ahead of RDJ and an aging Val Kilmer. For 2005 those movies hyped out Kiss Kiss.
another awesome!
Downy and kilmer are on top form. I really enjoyed it
Hands down In Bruges is tops.
In bruges rocked.
Have you seen The Guard ? If not , you'll love it .
Yeah in Bruges rocked definitely.....watch Dead mans shoes 2004
ruclips.net/video/dZPV1MF6Kgs/видео.html
I told a couple of buddies to watch it and they hated it... so weird cuz I thought is was the most thought provoking movie I have seen in many many years. I felt like I was living vicariously through the lives of two hitman that hated their choices in their lives and it was really interesting to say the least.
i fucking love valhalla rising, cant understand the hate for it
i love that movie to man, one of Mads Mikkelsens best performances. however, i understand that alot of people wont like this movie, the pace is slow, no dialog, its far from a mainstream movie, but that is one of the things that sets it apart, and in my eyes is a true masterpiece :)
The second half is just... too narrow. It becomes psychedelic, and then loose breath.
Was on my to watch list. Glad I saw it. I was let down tho (maybe it was the epicness of Dunkirk, I just saw days before VR).
Valhalla Rising is awesome. It's the viking version of The Holy Mountain brought to the 21st century.
I'd add, anyone who loves American Gods will probably love Valhalla Rising
dennis eriksson the ending. Movie was really good but the ending sucked. Built up to nothing
In Bruges was HUGE!!! What qualifies as "underrated", because in my books, an Oscar nomination, Golden Globe win and many other awards don't place a movie in an underrated category. The Fountain, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful movies ever made :)
The Assassination of Jesse James fits perfectly this list. Stunning imagery and haunting throughout.
I just commented the same thing! One of my all time favorite films. I can understand why it didn't do well, not the 'action' film people thought it would be but I just love everything about it. Still my favorite Deakins film too.
Wouldn't call it underrated though. I think it's known how great a movie it is, now.
Yeah it's a very underrated film and I hardly ever see anyone talk about it.
the iron way It wasn't weak it just wasn't an action flick rolling along at a million miles an hour, to me it felt more like a low budget indie flick that ends up becoming a cult movie.
Idiocracy best documentrie
I couldn't sit through it all
Phone One Dude that is a documentary!
That movie is seriously underrated
I C Renegade tbh baristas are pretty easy
Terrific breakdown. I really enjoyed Apocalypto visually, for pace, action. It's a rollercoaster that moves like Jason Bourne in a setting that's rarely been presented.
You forgot probably one of Tom Hanks greatest films, Road to Perdition
maybe @ your house
not from 2000s
um...yes it was
Release date: July 12, 2002 (USA) Amazing what kind of information you can find on the internet before making a fool of yourself.
F*ck tom hanks
In Bruges is absolutely fantastic.
Hilarious!
Agreed!
The alcoves...
I got bored within 20 minutes of watching, so...
In Bruges is like the very definition of black humor. It also helped that I saw it in the cinema with a very receptive audience.
what in the fuck is the background music in this
It's called Psytrance ;).
More particularly "full-on psytrance".
Seeing this is the first comment I've found regarding the music, I thought I'd chip in ^^.
Even more so, I'd like to know artist + trackname haha!
Sounds like something from the same era of Mortal Kombat
I am totally agree with you about The Fountain, The Fall, In Bruges & The Grey..They all leave an impact on me and so beautifully made..I never watch The Guard and I cant wait to see it.
In Bruges is GREAT
Dead Mans Shoes 2004.........watch it.
awesome film...a room for Romeo brass is good too.
Christos Shugeh beast of a film
Bloody brilliant film!
+1 on The Fall and In Bruges. To me though, Mr. Nobody is the most underrated movie of the 2000's. Highly recommend.
It's definitely a long one. Far from boring to me though! to each his own
Have you guys seen Seven Psychopaths? Its from the same director that directed In Bruges.
Mr Nobody is amazing
mr. nobody was one of the worst and boring movies are ever made.
kLx ́ agreed.
Moon is one of the best movies I've ever seen. It subverts every expectation for where the story is going, and *minor spoiler* doesn't follow the trend of hipster indie movies having an extremely hopeless and depressing ending. It's just such a unique and brilliant movie, I love it.
Where's Apocalypto :
They advanced to a small plaza upon the outskirts of the city

Apocalypto was a boxoffice success grossing over 120 million. Great movie.
I didn't give a fuck about historical accuracy. I watched it as a story and I loved it.
One of my favourite movies of all time. It would have got a lot more success and support if the Jews who run Hollywood hadn't shuned Mel Gibson.
Children of Men
Goddammit!
not really underrated, very praised and for good reasons.
It's very critically acclaimed, but was not a commercial success. Great movie. Good call.
I do however have some major issues with the cinematography.
KTK why? The cinematography is outstanding
Connor Bonelli Flawed but very good. The long takes are outstanding.
In Bruges was really good.
The Drop with Tom Hardy and the late great James Gandolfini.
Hell yeah! Valhalla rising is one of my all time favorite movies. Mads Mikkelsen is amazing in it.
The fall was also amazing.
Always wanted to see it but never got around too it. Ended up passing on it back in the day for Centurion, which is also fantastic.
The nice guys, great film 👌🏼
Harry Taylor Yes it is, but that's 2010's.
Nicolas Brandon So was The Guard
Mark Pritt lol, posted this while watching the video. I didn't get to the part yet. Well, Nice Guys should've been on this list.
Harry Taylor underrated but not 2000s. 2016.
Nicolas Brandon No, The Guard just shouldn't have been. I love The Nice Guys and I don't doubt that The Guard is a great movie either, but neither of them is from the 2000's so neither should be on this list.
Watching the THE GUARD now, feckin' awesome so far. Thanks for the recommendation.
A History of Violence,
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind,
25th Hour
The Man From Earth. amazing film I bet most of you have never heard.
Arch Angel Gabriel it's got talked about plenty. hell, it's basically hours of people talking. but yes, it's great movie. kinda have 12 angry men's feel to it.
Because it's based on ideas, not some visual roller-coaster that most of the commercial audience has become acclaimed to
I liked it but it wasn't amazing or anything.
Try the Quite Earth (yeah well, 1985) but a very interesting film from NZ.
lovely movie
I agree with Moon, The Guard and especially with In Bruges.
Big Fish
Big Fish was a great movie I totally agree very underrated
Marc Weldon very good film and a great story told with such an imagination you literally knew the kind of man his dad was.. And felt the realisation of his son that he'd never appreciated the great man that was his dad until it was almost too late.. I found it brought tears to my eyes at the end.. Not ashamed of that at all
I loved The Life Aquatic. It's a film that has to be rewatched a few times to really be appreciated. Wes Anderson rocks my world in all his films.
Pandorum
Cracking film
Dope as fuck
even the music was awesome!
A Scanner Darkly was a fantastic movie
In Bruges and Mary and Max are two of my favourite movies.
Not sure if the movie Phone Booth (2002) counts as an underrated film. Its a great movie with superb acting, I gained a lot of respect for Colin Farrell as an actor after watching it.
Hot Rod. That's all I've got to say.
Impostor Nimitz The soundtrack alone makes this movie great! 😊
Yes!! [couldn't comment earlier so here I finally am]
cool beans
Subject two. Not a horror film, at least other than existential horror at the exploration of life without feeling. The Man from Earth - Jerome Bixby's swan song is as low budget as you can get, it's shot mostly in the room of a house, with a dozen characters having a conversation. But it's the most interesting and mind blowing conversation any group of people could ever have, ever.
Great film. It reminds me of a play.
Fantastic movie. I've recommended it to several people after I watched it. Yeah, it's just a bunch of people talking for the entire film, but I was seriously glued to the screen the entire time. It's the most amazing story you'll ever hear, and REALLY makes you think after you've watched it.
The machinist
I watched that movie in the theathers when i was 11
Damn it was great
One of my all-time favourite movies
I was going to say the same then the first comment was yours, lol
Golgi Apparatus The Machinist in NOT a film people have either passed by, or forgotten! It's an amazing film
Agreed. Great movie!
Very dense
In Bruges is a new millenium privilege that we should not take for granted.
mary and max was one of the most touching movies ive ever seen
The Fountain was magical. Gorgeous. Heart moving. must see.
Life Aquatic is my favorite movie. First Wes Anderson movie I'd seen and I've seen them all multiple times since. One of the few movies I knew I'd love from the first trailer.
Fantastic Mr. Fox and Rushmore are also up there among my favorites.
"Mud" was for me one of the most memorable
Yannis Piastopoulos Mud was a groundbreaking film for me. Matthew Mcconaughy’s best performance of all time
Just saw Moon and the Guard based on these suggestions and you're fucking right, they were fricking awesome.
Just went and saw The Grey, very, very good.
Went? It's old where you go to see it...and it's awful for a survival movie.. just ridiculous
Moon is really something special.
City of ember is also fairly underrated in my eyes.
Totally agree, what a great movie
totally awesome movie - one of the best ever imho
A brilliant film, but hardly underrated, it took the Oscar for best Foreign Language film, beating out Pan's Labyrinth. (another brilliant movie)
I collect films I really like (most of them are foreign, but not all). I own the Lives of Others. Great, great film. I also own Pan's Labyrinth. Love the beautiful dark scenery in Del Toro's films.
Oh the irony.
Your mention of Mary and Max has earned you a like.
