      Hi Karen,
Thank you for your message. I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
We have decided from the beginning that if we were going to share all of these things on RUclips, we would never share the name of where our kids are in school or exactly the area we live in.
Simply down to that we want to always feel safe and there can be many internet trolls. Luckily nothing we have felt or seen, but we try to keep it that way :)
So the short answer on this is that even if we did share the school name, you couldn't use it for much :) There is hundreds of private portuguese schools and you have to find one local to your area.
Each child is very different and have different needs. We took our kids to different schools and one of them just felt right for the kids; we could barely get them out - and that gut feeling on top of our large list of questions we also have; then we felt very good about that. And here over a year later it still feels like the best choice we have made for our kids.
If you want more information, feel free to connect on Facebook - the link is under each video :)

Hi, thanks for this helpful viode. My kid is 8 years old and we'll move to Lisbon this summer. His English is A2 level and nowadays we have been looking for international school for him. But We are undecided about which school to choose, our main question is what should be the primary language in school, English or Portuguese.
I want him to learn Portuguese and be able to go to public school after 3-4 years. I have already talked with some schools which use English in primary and I'm not convinced they teach portuguese.
Is there any school which use English as primary language and teach Portuguese well?

    • @HyggeJourney
      @HyggeJourney  2 года назад +2

      Hi Erdal,
If you intension is to get him in Portuguese Public school, then starting in Internation school is probably not the best help.
What we did worked really well, online tutor 1-2 hour a week and 18 months in, he reads better than some of the native kids.
The earlier they get on with it the better chance they have.
But the kid have to be motivated for it :-) Otherwise it's going to be a struggle.
Personally, I prefer the Portuguese Private schools as at least for us, we have been treated really well and very welcomed. I can't talk about the Public schools really, I just don't know enough.

Be aware that one survey in 2018 find out the kids in a public school with PNML (is the law to kids that dont are fluent in Portuguese) the kids there in less than 6 months are fluent in Portuguese.
Public schools are very very good in Portugal lots the best presidents, prime ministers, lawyers and politics come from public schools for there entire academic learning and maybe there are some public schools with lower grades of their students but they are the exceptions and come from some the poorest neighborhoods.
But if you live in a good place of the city for sure the public school is very good.

We don’t have any first hand knowledge so it’s hard to provide value for you here :)
But stay critical. Normally international schools are not under the same standards as the local.
Then they have a lot harder attracting relevant talent where some schools end up hiring people without relevant education.
However i can’t talk about the specific school as I simply don’t know it :)

Hello! We are looking for schools and we are interested to know the name of the school you are talking about?

    • @HyggeJourney
      @HyggeJourney  2 года назад +1

      Hi Nancy,
We are not able to disclose the name of the school for 2 primary reasons. It's a school with a very rural location so the likelihood for that anyone would benefit from it is low.
The second reason is - we have had well over 100.000 people watching these videos - and we simply can't with good faith publicly on the internet disclose where our kids are at school.
Maybe one day, if they no longer attend there we can publish that information.
However, that's why we share the process of finding a school, as there is almost a private Portuguese school in each neighbourhood we have done our research in.
      Good luck.

Hi, thanks so much for all the info. We’re looking into moving in 2 years. My son will be nearly 9 by then. I can’t seem to find private schools on Google as when I do a search it takes me to international schools. Do you have a link to a website that has a list of schools in Portugal so I can research? We haven’t figured out where to move as of yet, depending on the school really. Any help would be much appreciated.

    • @HyggeJourney

      Hi Maria,
      Search something like:
      Escola Privado + area
So if you want Mafra then: Escola Privado Mafra
As you are looking for 9 yrs old, that would be "basico escolar" or "privado basico escolar"
      Alternatively look for eco-schools.
Remember none of these schools have an English website, so when you try to look for them by searching in English you won't find much.
      Hope it helps!

We have unfortunately not made that level of research... There is A LOT of private schools, probably one every few miles in the city areas... So just find you area first and then see what schools there is available.
