Bit hard to fathom but I had the great fortune to have a beer with Willie last night in Qld, Aust. He and his wife are friends of my friends and we all laughed as he regaled us for a couple of hours with some wonderful stories of his escapades as a younger man. He is now in his 80s but he has a lot of Scottish cheek and is sharp as a tack. He is also very humble and it was an honour and a pleasure to enjoy his company. His wife is a very beautiful and elegant lady too. Cheers from a start-struck Sydney fella - Dave

From when I was a pre-school tiddler this man was my hero. You never forget your first hero in football and at his sharpest he was brilliant. He took some brutal treatment and like so many dangerous front players of that era, his career at the top wasnt a long one because of it.
Celtic had so many brilliant attacking players that I dont think he received the recognition he was due - but then, he was my hero and I am biased.
Thanks Willie - for all those unforgettable moments.

What a player. One of my Dad’s favourites and he was the right player to add another dimension to the legendary team and take Celtic to heights of the success they achieved. Hugely underestimated but his input to Celtic should never forgotten

The final piece in Jock’s jigsaw. A good player for Hearts. A great player for Celtic. £30k. What a buy. He wasn’t quite Joe McBride but he was close enough. Thanks for everything, Willie. 🇮🇪

One comment and it is from a Rangers supporter, thats not right, he was a brilliant servant to the club, scored some fantastic goals and a good habit of scoring vital goals.
