Hey great video. I watched a few on your channel and find them to be very thorough and easy to understand. Would you mind doing a video on a DIY aquabus cable? I've read it can be accomplished with a CAT5 cable. Thanks.

I can certainly do that if you are interested, as it is very easy, however I am not sure it is generally worth it. Any passive USB cable will work for the purpose, and they can easily be found in lengths up to 25ft. Here are sizes 3-25ft all for under $11. www.amazon.com/Male-Cable-Type-25FT-Black/dp/B013J2KYAG/ If longer lengths are needed I would attach a usb extension. What you do not want is a active/repeater/booster cable, as this will fry your apex. I personally know people who have run 50ft of passive usb cable without any problems, and the architecture that the apex is based on should be able to do significantly more. Most people do not want to run longer than 50ft lengths, but if you do I can certainly make a cat5 to usb tutorial.

Thanks for the link but as a scare tactic Neptune has made people scared to use ordinary USB cables forcing them to buy their over priced aqua bus cables. You would be proving a service to the reefing community as well as creating original content. I dare you to find someone else who has created such a video lol. In any matter you also seem to be handy with those solenoid valves. Another great video would be a water change device that replicates the Renew Genesis product. genesisreefsystems.com/product/renew-pro-pumps/. Hope you don't feel I'm putting you on the spot, just throwing some ideas at ya. Thanks.

I will certainly do it- It will be a quick one. I like the Genesis idea a lot! Thanks. Neptune does the heavy warnings for fear of people using active cables or plugging something into the controller. I and many others use passive cables- they just usually don't come in longer lengths because actual USB wont work much past 25ft without a signal boost. Just an FYI, Neptune will send you to this company if you ask for long cables- www.usbfirewire.com/search.aspx?searchterm=apex

Who wants to pay $60 for a 50' USB cable? If I understand you correctly any "run of the mill" Male to Male USB will work?

Yeah, prices do seem a bit high, but I suppose they are made in small quantities. personally I would just take 2 25' extensions and plug them together. But yes, any passive usb cable (most at or under 25' are) will work.

Hey man . Thanks for the video . For turning the soleinoids ON/OFF , isn’t there a way to do that using the BreakoutBox instead of using precious plugs from the Apex power bar ?

The break out box is a input device only- it has no ability to output signal. Without some really complicated DIY, there is no easy cheap solution to not using 120v plugs, or if you have them, 1 link plugs
