ABOUT UPROXX INDIE MIXTAPE:
Indie Mixtape is the go-to for all things indie music. We serve as a funnel to make sure that only the best music -- new and old -- is delivered directly to the people who care the most.
Indie is more than a music genre. It's a sensibility. The indie fan may be overlooked in our current cultural climate, but they're alive and well -- going to see live music, visiting art galleries, and prioritizing substance over facade. This is for you.
The 1st time I heard this track I was living in Sweden as a new immigrant. I was about to go to work in a factory (easy immigrant work). 4AM and my eyes and my mind were still tired as hell. I would have a quick breakfast and watch whatever was on TV so early in the morn with the volume super low to let my GF sleep. Barely alive and drooling, this video suddenly comes on on MTV and right away I'm transfixed and wide awake. For the rest of the day, all I could think about was this song. Wonderful
was your GF swedish?
That’s a really nice image , thanks, made me smile
Hermoso
The band would almost always get only 2 hours of sleep a day recording Loveless. The dreamy vocals are mainly the result of singing in the studio right after they woke up. Your waking up to this is in harmony with the creators.
this comment getting replies 7 years later haha
I love that a major label thought music like this was going to be the next Michael Jackson. I love how much money they gave Kevin Shields. This is like dance music for non-corporeal interdimensional beings.
its weird, but actual times seems like a transition from body to spirit ( or mind...) would be the Transhuman project that compañies were (are) searching for?
It was for awhile , without there’d be no chemical brothers and Curve/garbage
This was dance music when I was a kid...
major label? Wasnt it Creation?
Creation was a part of Sire Records at that time. But yes, It was Creation.
This is one of the few music videos that actually captures the vibe of the song rather than just portraying a random scenario like any other short film
I though EXACTLY the same thing!
Crazy by Gnarles Barkley is similar along with When I Was Done Dying by Dan Deacon
the vibe im getting here is me dissolving into steamy liquids, so you are right there
The vibe : Acid
I could live in this song for ever.
yessssssssssssssss perfectly put
Yes perfect, this is a place.
Place on earth
I could die in it
This song has my heart
This song literally feels like an entity coming out of sonic space just to say "hello"
it feels like the voice of God, whatever that may be, telling you how much they love you.
+1
I can see how Kevin Shields went bonkers trying to top this album.
Yeah, is it really possible to top this?
@@pixussb7524 yep. self titled is equally as good imo
@@sale9667 true man, the melody on that album is top notch
@@pstrokeslibsarctic Its definitely a step up from loveless. Kevin has said in an interview that he purposely kept all the chord progressions simple in loveless (some are a little more advanced) but m b v has some fucking insane chord progressions, I cant even begin to imagine how he came up with Who Sees You
Well, he also went bonkers cause Bilinda left him cause he was doing too many drugs, specially ecstasy which depletes serotonin and overtime gives you crippling depression.
Ahead of their time. If loveless came out today, it would blow people's minds. Album truly displays what's possible sonically
not ahead
people are always behind
This song sounds so calming and yet so harsh, it reminds me of how it felt to throw my life away on heroin, luckily I got better.
✌️
are you still sober
This one album - Loveless - should be enough to get them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. What do you guys think?
+Tom Fuck the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
+Lucas Ferreira i agree with you!
+Tom YES
Definitely
Oh, fuck yeah
Shoegaze music is so timeless, you'd think this video is shot recently this year on a potato.
A very hallucinogenic potato.
Zedfinite not really just more 90s music nostalgia unfortunately it was the bands from England that ruined it bands like Slowdive, Boo Radleys etc
You won the internet with this comment.
Monty Ryan Slowdive ruined shoegaze?! What?!
@@montyryan3018 excuse me madam, but slowdive are one of the three most influential bands of the genre. mbv, cocteau twins, and slowdive. the big three of shoegaze.
miles ontario Cocteau twins are not Shoegaze and Lush have been around longer than both Slowdive and Ride (both of them suck, especially Ride bunch of misogynists)
loveless is that type of album that sends you in a completely different dimension, like on an elevated level of existence
Mood elevator 🌊🏄♂️🪷
Well said. This album took me from Eugene, Oregon to NYC by way of Hitch hiking summer of 1993. MY RITE OF PASSAGE SUMMER…I was 19.
You can listening Day by day - by White Flowers. You gotta love it.
The late 80s-early 90s really were the golden age of Indie music. Watching this video makes me pine for a Jazzmaster and a Yamaha reverse reverb pedal.
+Daniel Rennie the reason that i got both of those things lol
+Daniel Rennie - thanks for the recommendations for my wish list :)
Hows the Holy Grails reverse reverb? I use a Quadraverb but it would be nice having something to stomp on.
vaporfarts listen to it on RUclips mate, its excellent. But if you're going to get the holy grail deluxe you might aswell save up a bit more and get the large version with a reverse function but tons of other functions as well
I just wanted to clarify something... there is no pedal or effects unit that can do a "reverse reverb." A true reverse reverb or reverse delay can only be done post recording, in the old days it was done with clever manipulation of actual tape, these days it's easy to do in any DAW.
I remember when I first heard this I was like, "What the hell? This shit sounds like someone hooked up a circular saw to a flanger pedal", but now this is one of my favorite albums of all time.
It's abstract not just musically but also engineering-wise. It takes a while for ears to get used to the sound Kevin Shields made.
'The reliable rhythm of a giant linoleum buffer systematically rubbing the skin off your soul.'
@@tonyvilaysack88 You're totally right! This is not the first time that I'm listening to this song, but every time I do, the first minute is just unintelligible fuzzy noises, totally nonsense, but around 3 minute idk, it's like my ears finally could organize it and now everything turns to be a hypnotic melody in such a way that I could close my eyes and feel quiet.
i got so many friends that cant handle this shit
Love blasting it when everyone's tripping mad balls
kevin fuller I had my friend listen to a song from Astrobrite and when she finished listening to it she said "that made me want to take off my clothes" lol
I think some ppl get the sensuality from it, but not the emotional pull...
Or they connect to other genres of music. I can understand this kind of music not being some people's cup of tea, but they can certainly find inspiration elsewhere.
I have exactly this issue!
They got a low IQ
Although I have owned, known and loved this noise for more than 30 years, when I replay this gorgeous song, I feel my chest tighten from the pressure as I'm pulled down into the drowning depths of its achingly beautiful ethereal ocean of sound.
this song has the same effect on me. no other song hits like this one and I love it so much for this.
@@shikarics I'm glad I am not the only one who felt like this.
Thanks.! 🔊🎶❤️
This vacuum cleaner makes some great music.
When I bought the EP I was like:
1. WTF
2. Hmm. Let me play that again
3. WTF but I kinda like
4. Best Song Ever
T wow! I got hooked on the first listen.
Brian Clark obviously you’re better than me.
T Never said I was.
SAME
This is the only band I know of whose music sounds like what their videos and album artwork looks like.
Chris B. the only other band I can think of where that is the case, is Godspeed You! Black Emperor - it is rare that the music and the visuals fit that perfectly.
Tame Impala and Devo
MBV & Mew, for me.
what about Cocteau Twins? the design of their album covers was out of this world!
Chris B. Except phsychocandy album by the Jesus and Mary chain
Everything will be okay.
Thanks.
Reverb is an acceptable substitute for human warmth.
Tails petting a chao
Cringe
@@Landauh that's not reverb, that's actually multi-tap delay, people confused with reverse reverb which is actually not
but yes I got your point
Magic. Still sounds like music from the future 30+ years later
Without any doubt one of the most beautiful songs ever played. theres music that comes from the ego and theres music that comes from a deeper source. Either you get it or you dont.
ok for me, i found your comment interesting,, this song is all ego. ego is wonderful as it lets ongs like this is with a vision of beauty, it is only the ego that sees and fells and hears this, id, supergo doesnt see this. ego is good. its is human
Pretentious hipster. You are egoistic as fuck but dumb enough not to realize that but to me it's not even a bad thing. Cheers!
I mean, there's this tree that fell in a forest once.
The remembering of the Fullness
@dibble1973 that is one of the saddest statements I've read. I pray for you brother
The most music beautiful music in the world, played on lawnmowers.
the warmest, fuzziest and most comfy song ever
The year is 2321, aliens come across a little blue planet with nothing but rubble upon it's surface, the only trace of our existence they find is an old vhs tape with this music video on it.
I remeber when this came out my friends all thought I had gone mad saying this was one of the best records ever made, right there with sgt pepper and dark side of the moon, it awesome to see how people have come around
On this evening I listen to My bloody valentine for the first time in my life and It's amazing. I'm in love!
same here brotha!
i listened to them for the first time 2 years ago and i still love them
I listened to this song first in 1991. I was 16 years old. Bought the Tremelo EP on vinyl. I still have it. Listening to this song teleports me back to amazing times and memories.
welcome
I remember the first time I heard them too. It stopped me in my tracks. I hope you've introduced this album to just about everyone you know. I hand it out as Christmas and birthday gifts.
this song melts my brain. everytime i listen to this it's like my ability to think stops for 5 minutes. no other music ever managed to do this
The guitar is breathing
This song makes me feel like I'm floating
with alison
Grateful Dead sinking, even
Abigail DorisMae it does give a good aural buzz...
this *IS* shoegaze. beautiful
Every track of Loveless is like a sunny spring day.
its also like a dark winter night at the same time
Dark winter night looking out of the kitchen window at the rain outside drinking hot chocolate, sad but knowing things will be okay.
Unicorn Guitar Hero Jesús okay dude
You mean like a sunny sundae smile right??
Fucking no
My school...My college years...33 years old and I'm still amazed and touched by this song...I love how songs become just kind of the soundtrack of your life, away from the meaning that the composer gave to them...Music is timeless and free from everything.
I feel what you're saying! 😄 The melodies of music, manmade and in nature, seem to touch us on a more spiritual level than anything else, maybe the frequencies remind our consciousness of some kind of universal love of life itself 😃
Oh god, that Deep sound at 1:05, makes me shiver, first time experiencing such emotions with music, this is honestly so good i don't know how to describe this .
I don't know what this song reminds me of more; a beautiful sunny summer's day or a wailing phantom taking over the earth- maybe both? either way i love it
this feels like taking a bath for my soul
Not of this earth.
you are inside in the music
Still my favorite piece of music ever. It's like I am listening to it for the first time after all these years listening to it constantly. No music makes me breathless of euphoria as this one. This music makes my spirit desperate to leave this limiting mortal flesh and wander flying and dancing on the air, giggling happily to this ethereal ocean of light. Truly the most spiritual and divine.
me too lol@@positive.juice.apartment
that reverse reverb man... THAT REVERB
uh huh
yamaha spx-90 for the nerds out there
there was not even reverse reverb in this track....
Gloomer there was.
if you actually read the 33 1/3 book you would know there isnt
This is the soundtrack to being so in love with someone, you're heartsick and everything is beautiful.
The last minute and a half of this art sound collage is just divine, the whole song just scalates till it´s all "chaos". Can't comprehend how a musician came up or dreamed about these sounds combining them in a way you are like in heaven but the light is so bright you cant quite see the full picture, layers, upon layers. Theres no other song in existence that's quite like this one, just unique.
This record had a $250,000 pound budget for Kevin to work out his sound in the studio.
This song made me fly the first time, the second time was more instrospective looking to undersand. There is nothing to understand, just be one with the non-chords and incredible sound. Im just happy for my very existance in this tiny little planet and have had the pleasure of heard such beautiful things. Thanks mbv, thanks kevin shields. I fucking love every bloody second of this album.
This makes me feel like I’m everything and nothing, all at once.
The big 4 of Shoegaze. Slowdive, MBV, Ride and Lush
I loved this song the first time I heard it and still do. MBV have sometimes been compared to Jackson Pollock's style of painting - a wonderful combination of order, beauty and chaos of which this song is a good example. Of course, MBV does take a lot of people out of their musical comfort zone, and not everyone likes Jackson Pollock's paintings, but they have both been enormously influential on other artists.
Loved this band and their music for so many different things. The way it isolated me in a soft bubble of dreaminess and psychedelic vibes. People at work hadn't the slightest what this was about I had a little picture of Bilinda that cheered me up and no one could see what a cute poppet she was . Only around 6 people in the town I lived in were into MBV.
Magic music of its time and I'll always cherish it.
Magic music for all time.
The most beautiful thing ive heard
Kiss
Your fear
Your red button
Falls from my mouth
Slip
Your dress
Over your head
It's been so long
Move
On top
Because that way
You touch her too
Turn
Your head
Come back again
To here knows when

A 15 minute version of this tune would be ideal for a DMT trip
***** Just blaze or listen to the whole album
try lemon chair's version
it's 10 minutes of auditive bliss
Ross McDermott when you listen to mbv you don't need drugs the music is enough to get you to the other side of the universe
antstein nietstna thats not the point. This music sound in this song specifically is "good" for a dmt trip specifically due to the atmosphere of the music. When you do dmt, things like the music really effect the visuals you see when you close your eyes. The patterns will go to the rhythm and stuff. The music more helps the dmt trip then the other way around.
This song is exactly what it's like to rot away in your room
just a constant drip of dopamine through your computer screen while in pure ignorance
One of the finest creations in terms of music - Loveless. Best $10 spent!
why on video from 2009 all coments from 2020
especially for the last 3 days..
@fox pals dang dude, my bad i didn’t know that us zoomers aren’t allowed to listen to mbv 😔
The greatest album of all time, by the greatest band of all time.
its like the most beautiful women in the world humming to herself walking along the river
bilinda is actually the most beautiful woman in the world
Cristian Cannata Belinda Butcher is my dream crush.
@** u get no bitches dawg wym
That's a beautiful way to describe this song, S2 👍
genius, genius, genius. 199-fucking-1, and it still sounds absolutely amazing and boundaries-pushing today. btw gotta say I kinda cried when I heard this live a few years ago.
I can't discern any of the lyrics but I feel like I'm crying inside. Hypnotic stuff
The only band in history who absolutely can't be plagued.
One of two. Cocteau Twins are inimitable also
Happy Mondays
@@yacuncha4045 underrated choice, Bummed and Pills and Thrills are top tier. GMans good but the crack albums sucks
Am I high or am I high?
+ThomasNigelHawkins I once listened to this while peaking on MDMA. I normally wouldn't go for this kind of music, but in that moment it was just incredible :-D
+Demonwhisper That's exactly how I was introduced to MBV. Life changing experience.
ThomasNigelHawkins i am
Higher than high
@@mortenrobinson MBV sounds good on just about every drug except alcohol. MDMA + weed is best though
This is the single greatest rock song ever written.
Yes. It is that good.
lol
No. But it is good.
No. But it is good.
No. But it is good.
Yeah, no, it's not even the best song on Loveless. It is quite good though
This is one of Robert Smith's favourite record. Enough.
This song is so beautiful and hits like no other
caught this band in 92.. one of the most mindblowing experiences of my life. they were so high out of their minds on ecstasy, and it was so loud that nobody could here anything at all, but the band just played thru the music, telepathically to each other.. never once looked or spoke at eachother. just pure body music feeling
wish i could go back
I remember when I first heard this I was like, "What the hell? This shit sounds like someone hooked up a circular saw to a flanger pedal", but now this is one of my favorite albums of all time.
how to make such beautiful sounds from guitars..... mesmerizing.
Proto-Boards of Canada at best...that’s why I love this damn song! So ethereal, ambient, and strange!
In “Play by Numbers" from BOC
was inspired by MBV
crazy story abt how i got into mbv basically i had a dream that i was climbing a hill and i heard like the first 15 seconds of this song on a loop, but like at 11pm later that day i go on my youtube and this video was the first thing recommended mind you ive never even listened to or heard of mbv before this (ive had to hear this song at least once before tho bcuz there’s no way) it was so weird and like one second in i just completely zoned out bcuz i was like wtf just happened, it was an insane coincidence lol.
i put my headphones on my friend's head and played this song at good volume. he laid back for the whole thing and he said he felt like he was in a planetarium or something. mission accomplished.

yea i like ariana grande too
oh
Biblically accurate song
"y a pesar de todo, sólo es una guitarra"
I slept through a transatlantic flight listening this this album on repeat and it was so pleasant. I have very specific semi-waking dreams centered around this song. They were a lot like the video.
how is this music from the 90s
@ciao214Z what
@@katiouss he’s having a boomer moment don’t mind him
I want this played at my reincarnation
this is the single most beautiful thing ive ever heard in my fucking life
1 year later, still nothing compares to this song. nothing. scriabin comes close, but that's about it. this song literally teleports me to some familiar, warm and fuzzy dark place in my deep subconcious. i cant explain it but it gives me a reason to move and live.
this transcends music, it's not music anymore, it's raw power
It baffles me that music can sound like this. So harsh yet so blissful, this is really art
Art is amazing, this doesn't need words, you feel it
MBV masterpiece song
masterpiece official video
thank you for the uploding
This is the type of song you’d love to listen to while smoking pot.
2019 and I'm still listening to this wonder.
Greetings from Peru!
The very first song I heard after smoking ganja for the very first time. “I feel like my brain is bleeding!”
I'm so so happy I got to see them back in the day at the "Brighton Rollercoaster" gig with blur, dinosaur junior, and Jesus and Mary chain. I saw nearly all the greats between '88 & '93 (one long 2nd summer of love as far as I was concerned!) but there are some bands I just can't forgive myself for missing! The Sundays, Stone Roses, and Carter USM are particularly painful but these guys back in their day were what I lived and breathed. lol....20+ minutes of the "you made me realise" riff at the end of the set, steadily getting more loud and out of tune didn't faze me one bit. Kevin had recently stated in a music rag it was their goal to clear a venue with boredom at the end of each set....but of course everyone there had read that interview and weren't going anywhere! Just good good times! 💕
I find it amazing how they create such a unique tone with a guitar and a few pedals
Nothing better than finding something new that's incredible. Don't.think id actually heard My Bloody valentine before until now. This song gives me chills.
watching this high, holy shit.
Benzodiazipines of any kind go really well with this band and a dark room.
Love this.... I came here because of 'The Joy of the Guitar Riff' prog on BBC4.
Altaira55 that's how I got into mbv too lmao
I also saw that and was shocked they didn't even mention Sweet Child of Mine - GnR but now im so glad i discovered this band!
It's like listening to some beautiful music, from a distant planet, on an old radio........ lovely!
i cant even imagine seeing this on tv in 91, id think aliens had hijacked the broadcasting
MBV is art. Literally music but also art.
about 4 years of late, but music *is* a form of art what
Also they are the loudest band live next to Sunn O))) no one is loud compared to Manowar
This song is the definition of Wall of sound
oh
Thankyou mbv’s label for nearly going broke so they could make this album
I had a really horrific mushroom trip a few years back, and somehow found this video on the comedown. I could feel my soul being healed
色と音の響きあう感じが大好き!
Sounds like "Boards of Canada". Do you agree?
Boards of Canada have said in interviews that Loveless is in their top 5 albums so they're influenced by MBV
Am I the only one who hears the T-Rex from Jurassic Park roaring in the background?
In particular, I’m referring to that part where the T-Rex is fighting off the raptors in the museum, after hurling a raptor from her jaws across the room she then does that massive final screaming roar.
Ga damn I’m high as shit.
I was really into harsh noise at the time, young lad by that. i listen to this at some party and i then learned that noise can also be not harsh but drowsy and hypnagogic. listening to this feels like everyone on this world dissolves into one hive mind, immanent and full of love and a final goodbye to this phase of the universe.
wassup lmao
What tf happened??
