Half 🦁 & Half 🦅 = #Griffin/#Gryphon. Scared animal of Great #Apollo(Sun), the God of the ☀️, healings & soul. Also known as the Hound of Mighty #Zeus(Jupiter) & also associated with #Nemesis(Invidia), Goddess of Retribution or Revenge. ❤ all your video's mate especially this 1 👍.
Fun fact: Goldar from Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers is meant to be an anthropomorphic griffin. In fact, his Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger counterpart is called Grifforzer.
another little known fact, while not directly identified by name, one of the 4 living beasts mentioned in the bible that surround gods throne and sing glory to him is described in a way that resembles a gryphon.
I just finished reading through all of Joe Nigg's nonfiction books on the history of gryphon mythology and it's surprising how many different cultures had their own take on the gryphon without talking to each other (and then how the gryphons evolved and changed when those cultures met other cultures with their own gryphon myths). The Egyptian hawk+lion gryphons were put on tombs to guard dead pharaohs, but later pharaohs wanted their faces to appear on their tombs, which is how we got the sphinx. And the Greeks borrowed the Egyptian gryphons and changed the hawk to eagles, which later propagated back to the Egyptians who decided that was a cooler bird. My favorite was definitely the Minoan gryphon, which was a peacock. Why aren't there more of those? (A quick glance shows a gryphon reading list of over 200 gryphon novels, so maybe they're super common and I just haven't been reading the right novels.)
Yeah, usually myths are quite similar worldwide, they just differ to fit the local culture. The Garuda and the Sphinx are very similar in some ways to the Griffin.
I love the Griffon! One of my all time favourite Mythical beasts in Mythology :D
Mythoscope Indeed! A truly majestic creature.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention the hippogriff even in passing.
