- April 26 | Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, delivered his 288th speech on the Senate floor urging his colleagues to wake up to the threat of climate change.
Whitehouse highlighted the corrupt hold the fossil fuel industry has on the Republican Party after Speaker Kevin McCarthy passed the House GOP’s Default on America plan.

These billionaires of energy and even other corporations don’t care, period. They worked through the ranks to become so rich that they’ll never ever spend that money. Hurricane Camille dumped 25-30 inches of rain in Nelson County, Virginia in August 1969 - in 4 hours. The rain was so heavy that people couldn't breathe without bending over. Over 100 died and people ended up in trees miles away. Nobody said a word about climate change. Johnstown flood, Hurricane Andrew, 1930s dust bowl and heat waves. Climate change? No, just weather. The 1930s still have more daily heat records than any decade since.
Used to be here in Virginia in April that if you had a day in the 80s followed by 40 mile-an-hour winds and a hard freeze people would say "Typical April weather." Now it's just another excuse for the climate change ninnies to go berser

YOU are talking about weather - not climate. And you might want to rethink that dust bowl example - that was caused by HUMANS! Bad farming practices depleted the soil, so plants didn't grow, and without plants and their root mass, the ground dried up. Without normal evaporation, rainfall decreased, as did cloud cover which CAUSED LOCAL daily heat records.
And no one ever claimed there were not big weather events sometimes in the past - but it is the FREQUENCY with which they occur that is changing! And of course no one talked about climate change then, because we did not have the research tools to investigate climate change well back then. Also, no SINGLE event can be tied to climate change.
Fools like you don't understand that when you talk about climate change you need to look at the WHOLE GLOBE.

Hey Senator Whitehouse, reach out to our former Premier of BC 🇨🇦 we had a very dangerous year (2021) of massive fires and literally temps over 50c. It was apocalyptic. Over 600 people died during that heatwave here 😢 and then 3 months later we also had an atmospheric river that destroyed massive infrastructure. The consistent problem we've heard way too many times about the Dems and Democratic party leadership - the failure to have any kind of unified communication strategy. I don't know if they are lazy, incompetent, or simply lack imagination. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse gets it, but where is everyone else? John Stewart recently said in an interview on CNN a few weeks ago that the Senate was like "a senior living facility surrounded by a moat full of lobbyists and dark money interests." They are slow and ineffective. The failure that we've had this communication issue and inability to speak in a unified way after many years says a lot about how too many of these folks are failing us.
Jamie Raskin in the House is amazing too. Senator Klobuchar, and Senator Warren are also standing up for Americans.
Katie Porter is cut from the same cloth. There is a good chance she will win Feinsteins seat.

Possibly because he feels he can better concentrate on a few *very* key issues from a Senate position and all that that carries (votes, influence, ability to gain insight from peers who generally may not openly express certain views publicly).
Maybe, as senator, it's easier to push other dems in both houses of congress to recognize what direction needs to be taken in order to thwart Rethuglicon bs, and further real progress, especially as regards climate change.
As a president, he might be pulled in too many directions, lessening effectiveness. And perhaps he'd rather not undergo the current absurd (and often manufactured) negative scrutiny a presidential candidate must suffer through, as even their family gets dragged through the mud along with them by hypocritical Я's. However......I'm sure he'd be an outstanding president, nonetheless.

I have to wonder, what McCarthys constituents feel about his personal entrepreneurial endeavors as their representative. Also do States have oversight relating to actions of their representatives, or are they free to represent themselves and whomever they deem most profitable to themselves??
They’re free to represent their own interests and constituents are free to vote them out of office. The term for Representatives is only 2 years, so it’s easier to get rid of them in a more timely fashion than it is to vote senators out. Waking up Republicans is important, but don't you think its more important for them to smarten up?
They know what they are doing. Money, power and hateful bigotry are often motivations behind murders. There usually comes a time when murderers are stopped before they die. Defending our lives and our children's lives is paramount. Only necessary force is apporiate. Persistent persuasion and voting may possibly be effective force. Peaceful civil disobedience? It's always sad when self defense requires killing. Often the question to pose is less severe. For example, a leader might need to consider that it is better to willingly give away your ring to a staving person for food... before the person needs to cuts off your finger.. Always there are consequences for criminal actions.
Who passed a bill subsidising Fossil Fuels? How insane is this and why hasn't it been repealed?
