  • In this video I install two earth clamps and a piece of 10mm earthing wire to a coper pipe, this is so that a plastic component can be installed in the pipe at a later date. By doing this you ensure that the electrical continuity of the copper pipe is not compromised, if the pipe was cut and a plastic joint was installed.

    The lock nut should be placed over the metallic label and then be tightened to hold that in position so it can be read. Not be left free moving where it can end up side on and less readable. Also allows me to put my wira 10mm ratchet to good use tightening nut whereas behind the label i can only use the jaws end as on the video. That is a deal breaker for me ! 😀 Otherwise great vid

      Might be worth fitting a ball valve as I have done in my boiler cupboard, taps all over the place to isolate hot and cold pipes and in need of replacement. Now its easy to tell on or off as it's written on the ball valve plus it's a simple turn of the leaver. No more taps for me!

      As long as your incoming gas and water pipes are equpotential bonded within 600mm and before any T branches in the pipework. Then you don't need to supplementary bond the pipes beneath your boiler. The casing under the boiler gives equpotential to the rest of the pipes. The copper for the Gas and water makes ground for the rest of the pipework. 18th edition regs now state if the pipework below ground to the stopcock or pre gas meter isolation valve is MDPE plastic then again no bonding is necessary. I just install it to keep the other Gas engineers and some of the old school sparkies happy. Either way consult an electrician if you're unsure.

    • @rayc1503
      @rayc1503 2 года назад

      If you really want to supplementry bond the boiler pipes. Then best practice is to keep the wires short, 6mm earthing cable should be suffice. Shortest possible route to ground.

      A single pipe just needs to be bonded with a 10 square, there is no need to put a bond between a single pipe, if you have a few pipes in series you just link them all together! Also twisting the earth around in a spiral shape has been changed in the regulations, the more you twist the earth and use a longer cable the higher the resistance which essentially means longer trip times in a fault situation!

    Just abit puzzled as it looks like the pipe is mains water pipe and stop tap ? If so this should already be already earthed with a10mm earth wire to the dis board, everything else is correct except if the mains water pipe is pvc then cross bonding in video would not earth pipe and technically if this is a stop tap if fed by lead etc and no 10mm bond already on it it is not earthed, although think that the reg’s have changed for mains water feed in pvc (don’t think they run a earth wire to mains pipe just check )

      MM75 imagine this scenario. Your immersion heater develops a fault which causes the case to become live. This is connected to all the copper pipework, taps, radiators etc which become live also. As you have no earth connection there is no way for this electricity to return safely to ground. Your wife is making a cup of tea and turns on the tap whilst filling the metal kettle which is earthed through the plugs wiring, a path to earth is established THROUGH YOUR WIFE. Hence the need for bonding,
