I really love his persistence and how he's showing his mistakes and how he learns from each of them. Major props to Cliff.
You missed the demiglaze.
It's his first time
And it was missed.
Considering how long it takes to make demi-glace, it's understandable. He could have used gravy and you wouldn't have known any better (unless you were eating it).
gravy? for used it isnt before it had ever i think dont I
@@joshuajtm7202 say what now
he's getting a lot of hate but personally I LOVE that he did such a simple take because this is all about how we can try to make it ourselves, demystify, non-intimidating, this result feels feasible whereas you watch the other one and it's like "yep leave it all to the masters"
AGREED.
The omurice thats been trending around is really just a fancy version. The one cliff did was incredibly great for having less than a day to attempt.
I'm going to take this as a compliment as my 2nd attempt was in my opinion even better.
Why is everyone so salty? lol it's his attempt at omurice. I'd like to see all the people who talked bad about Cliff post a video of them trying to make it lol
No, kidding! Hahaha.
It might be the fact that Cliff isn't really doing a standard Omurice. He's going for the Kichi Kichi Omurice, which is quite a few levels of difficulty higher than a normal Omurice.
Truth
Egg nerds, the worst kind of nerd.
Why are you getting so salty about people getting so salty? it's You Tube dude people like to get salty.
props for trying, omurice is all technique.
Real omuraisu usually envelops the rice. What that guy made was just a fancy alternate version ---your result wasn't up to his level, but I think it was good enough to be in the omuraisu family ;)
Critical Eats Japan definitely not up to his level. And that makes me happy actually. I only had an afternoon. He has had years. I
For sure. I think you did a great job!
@Alex Cheong Oh shut up.
Hell, I'd say most of Japan isn't up to guy's level.
See kids this op is what you call helpful criticism.
I like seeing the process of learning and mastering a technique. Enjoyable!
Japan refined the basic French-style omelette for it to become this perfectly shaped encased scrambled egg. I make these at work for my free meals. As our head chef was trained to make these and he offered to teach me how and the concept really comes with the shape and the seal. Definitely better than my first tries but try fold the omelette closer to the edge, angle the pan more steeper, and maybe a bit less oil as too much and overcook some of the egg. Definitely a great watch and I hope this comment reaches out to you guys before the next time you make another omelette.
This one is awesome. It showing you the reasons for failures as how to be success. I just tried to make it for the 2nd time and it still scramble, I know I have to find the right video, this is the Right video.
Lots of people in the comments clearly didn't listen to him in the video he said he was just going to make a basic fried rice because the eggs were the part he wanted to try and get also this takes years of practice and he got fairly close in 3 tries relax people hes just showing us that it's achievable at home by any regular Joe with some basic cooking skills
The amount of oil used for every trial makes my head ache
That's great. He bumbles around like all of us would when making omelette. But got it pretty close at the end. Thanks for making the video. It gives me confidence to go and try it too.
I'm the one millionth person who subscribe to this channel. cheers
Thanks for the video I always wanted to try making this
add some water when you mix eggs can make it softer ( egg:water = 3:1). try it :D
For steaming egg, i like 1:1.
You can use soup instead of water.
Cliff! Try straining the eggs. Gives a smoother texture. Awesome vid.
smaller pan for control flipping, and open flames for more heat.
Good job .. I was actually trying it these few days ... And I was like your first and second attempted
Thank you for Representing my neighborhood sandwich shop!!
This wasn’t even a half ass attempt. It was a quarter ass attempt.
Unless you have the same pan and fire power, I'd think it's nearly impossible to duplicate.
Learning from Buzzfeed... just like regular people... :)
Clifford you were great
Dat shirt doe! Best po-boys ever!
3 eggs. that dude used SIX omg
Thing is he didn't do the hand thing untill the very end, he first FOLDED IT x'D
he's good
You might not think this important but... he was using an OPEN FLAME. Much more immediate heat, more control, faster cooking of the exterior of the omelette. Good try!!!!!! (Okay, I ran out of exclamation marks).
This is Epic Fight in The Comment Section I see
I am surprised that you didn't check out Jacque Pepin's video on french omelette.
Great to see you back Cliff, I missed you.
We are officially missing u. Want Esther Choi to demonstrate..
Cliff- we love the videos- make more!!!
Can you PLEASE do chocolate soup dumplings?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
you did a good job
PLEASE DO RAIN DROP CAKE!!!!!!!
good try! Make an update video when you get it perfect!
He forgot to put the egg into a sift
Wannna try this SO bad!! Since watching tampopo for the first time!!!
Is that non-stick pan?
The rice doesn't look right
Ye he used light soy sauce instead of dark soy
He missed out using demi glaze.
The rice definitely needs to be sticky and then broken up in the skillet with a spatula. I didn't like the looks of the rice either because it wasn't sticking together and didn't look done enough. He may have rinse the hell out of it with cold water too which would remove too much of the starch.
The chef strains the egg first before using it. And he uses 3 eggs per person.
ruclips.net/video/rFAddL8g8mw/видео.html
u need to use left hend to hold pan
to the overlyloyal viewers, there was a huge huge mistake he made consistently due to not watching the video clearly enough. when forming the omelette, you flip the near side about halfway closed. you want it to start to look like an omelette. that way when you flip, the omelette seals like an envelope and lands on the seam, sealing it entirely. he probably could have done 20% better if he had done this. but all things considered he did really good and I'd say he got a 50%. halfway to perfection.
what's with all the dislikes? Cliffy is a cool guy, hate the vid don't watch it, simple stuff
You have to watch a video to know if you like it... otherwise i agree with you. Its a good attempt.
Maybe turn the heat down once you flip it.
Please do French omelet with cheese curds!!!!!!!!!!!
u need to add 30 ml of milk and 20 ml of cream to the egg it stops it setting to fast
*He obvious didn't watch Andrew on BuzzFeed!!*
I think that's where they got the inspiration from. They've seen the success with Tasty and how buzzfeed has been going less political more food wise. So they wanted to make their own food channel.
he obviously did
Buzzfeed did this right
Please do chicken rendang.... I would love to see it
Its been too long, Cliff!
Nikl P I missed you.
Nikl P that's what she said😂😂😂
Why was he out of eater?
CLIFFFFFFFF. My hero.
seriously not bad for a first !!
maybe dont do it on an induction stove where you the only way you can regulate the heat of your pan is to have it flat on your hob?
Try it with fire pan
You forced to split it. 😂
impossible with an induction stove
Everyone forgets milk man why do y’all forget milk
Its hard to make with induction kitchen
You have to strain your eggs for this dish
Copying buzzfeed and I am watching. Ur sub count live it’s boutta hit 1 mil
This omelet dish is pretty interesting - but like many things on RUclips it’s already been done....multiple times. The trick is to make your version a bit more interesting - put your unique spin on it.
Journey and Explore well the fried rice part had his own spin I guess lol
cringe
he did his own spin, he left half the ingredients out lol
Everything has been done. How do you expect him to put his own spin on it if he hasn't even mastered how to make the basic version of it?
Takes the dish and he puts his own twist on it... (a couple days, weeks, or months later) Cliff gets roasted everywhere for supposedly putting his own unique spin on the dish lol... jk
HE BACK
I think u should’ve added a bit of milk
Funny how Cliff makes a disclaimer about replicating something that "a master has done everyday of his life for years and years and years in a matter of minutes." So if he nails it, he's truly a culinary wiz (hey I did not make that up, that's what Eater put on the description), but if he doesn't then he has a way out. Hahaha
Seriously though, there wasn't any effort put into replicating the rice in the Kichi Kichi version. Yes, it's not as famous as the omelette, but it is called Omu (for omelette) - Rice (for well, rice). If he watched the Tasty video when the producers actually went to Japan, he would pick up some things as there is an English explanation for the steps.
symbian He literally said in the video that he was focusing on the eggs, not the rice. Also it says it in the title “Japanese Omurice *Omelette* ”
Nice attempt but that fried rice was really missing some key ingredients! The original fried rice had a golden color, from the soy sauce, fish sauce, and caramelized onions. I think those would have really added to the dish :)
i know its been 2 years but... this video is not about the whole dish itself, he said in the video that he's just making a simple fried rice because the only thing he's trying to do is the egg itself
You're supposed to use demi glace in or over they omurice.
We missed YOU!!!
I M I missed you too!
Gwai lo thumbs up
Watch Jacques Pepin's video on omelettes.... Done
I think it’s cause of the stove
You basically cooked the eggs into a half omelet and cut it in half then let it fold out.
PLEASE GIVE ME MONEY ! ! ! !
I recommend and just suck in the pride and watch the Tasty video where they went to japan and got taught by the actual guy. Good reference point.
I don't understand why you would eat undercooked eggs. Won't you get sick?
What part of it is omurice? Lmao
Give me money!!!! I put four exclamation points. You kinda have to do it.
dang. can't argue that.
Use a ketchup, or bulldog sauce... And top it with gravy after you cut the egg
Next level as simple as that
It is really nice to see you went for the more oil to make it silkier... rather than the buzzfeed version of using that cream... Oil is better in my opinion
I think you might get better results with a gas stove. That way you can lift up the pan and heat it at an angle, so the outside of the egg gets done faster while the inside is still runny.
he needs about 15 more years practice
I really don't understand all the thumbs down on this video. Cliff's final attempt at omurice isn't perfect, but--let's face it--you can't eat the food in a youtube video, so that not the point. The point is having fun watch somebody develop a new skill quickly by watching a quick demonstration. Egg-cellent video, Cliff and crew!
Where’s the ketchup?
is this buzzfeed?
..... But did you remember to season that one?
Haha jk I'm guessing you seasoned all the eggs in the bowl after that 😅
That was a fun video, and didn't take too many tries!
You know you could have watched the Tasty video where the master shows them how to do it.
So what? The point was to try to replicate the initial video
Dunno if it's taboo to mention the Tasty channel here, but they actually made a pretty great video (with the showcase of like a million retries) on this - with tips from the real guy.
3 eggs, not 4
:(
You have mad style too
Wheres the demi glaze?
Butter? I Guess?
funny thing is that this is the classic Jacque Pepin French omelette. The technique is hitting the pan handle, not the arm. And, it is missing the gravy.
Happy to see you back on, Cliff!
Buzzfeed already did this a year ago. Also, you forgot the gravy that goes over the omelet!
Buzzyfeed or Tasty had done it!!
Mistakes that he did:
-He didn't add oil and remove it.
-He didn't add chicken.
-He applied sesame oil.
-He didn't add soy beans.
-He didn't add the Demi-glaze after he cooked the rice.
-He didn't strain the eggs before cooking.
-After the failed omelette, he didn't apply Demi-glaze.
This is NOT a comment to mock off this guy.
U only use 3 eggs
Why is this video so quiet?
Cliff, it is all in the wrist, as you have known as an adolescent. Just pop the eggs before you spritz. That is what my sensei taught me.
I like your version better. I don’t like runny eggs. 👌👌👌
