You’re right about their build ups. Tool is so patient and they make you wait for those rewarding explosions of sound. This song performed live is so amazing. I like how you re-visit parts that stand out in your reactions. Can’t wait for you to experience Tool’s Parabol/Parabola.

I think they were playing at a concert over here recently. It was with some big names I wanted to go. At the time I had no knowledge of tool. I am a lot more knowledgeable now 😂
@n2thealgorithm it's hard to know of any band these days that has songs longer than 4 mins. Radio has a limit around 3-4 min songs as a rule but there are exceptions. Even in the 90s Tool wasn't on radio because of song length. The Doors, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd all get their songs chopped down

He talks about the song not being in his range "Crazy Train" in an interview before he did it. And he was terrified to do it. But because he was asked to do it, he was so honored that he had to accept of coarse. If you'll notice nobody could do Ozzy any justice that sang, but then again there is only one Ozzy Osborne right.
I've only heard about the song but I did hear that Maynard was saying the song didn't fit hm vocally. But it's a once in a lifetime thing
On that same note probably Ozzy or anybody else for that matter just wouldn't quite fit a Tool song.

@@n2thealgorithm there may be versions but it's never Anywhere near as good as Tool. However, Tool's cover of No Quarter is superior to the original imo. I don't feel any emotions when listening to Zepp's but with Tool's cover, I feel it all. Very hypnotic.
My favorite 😍 this should've been played adjacent to the track h. Woulda been necessary. Thanks for this 🙏 give more songs a chance there's no bad ones

I still say Maynard is the best Lyricist of this time. Not talking just about holding notes etc. Using and twisting word meanings to form a pattern and a story

The Crazy Train Performance wasn't bad... I enjoyed it. I think people just expected something totally amazing and over the top
I think they went in expecting something a long the lines of their cover of no quarter BUT that was Tool revamping and doing their own thing to a classic while making it their own
People expected top notch Ozzie impressions. People are idiots. Although I gotta say the guy after Maynard was objectively awful.

Tool is just as good live as they are on their recordings. You could argue that live shows are better because they add the visual element to the song that is not there in a recording.
I get that there's a comfortably numb live version that I prefer over the studio version. The solo is amazing
Do their song The Grudge. Head smack off the get go! And a scream that will set you back! Don't hold grudges..they will destroy you!!

Now that you have heard the more mainstream songs, it's time to get a little more experimental. Pneuma or Lateralus are both wonderful songs that will give you a different view of Tool.
Both of those names sounds very medical !!! Idk why ! I'm down for it !!! Tool has been reshaping my ear

The build up is barely noticeable and then suddenly you're aware the whole song changed.

Yeah, Maynard doing Crazy Train was meh. He admitted beforehand it was out of his vocal range.
Its hard to imagine a Maynard performance that is meh. But him admitting that's out of his range is commendable
