Only person I know that doesn’t rate Rare Breed highly & all the reasons you gave is exactly why most people love it, they are a solid, true & tried formula, that doesn’t change & you know exactly what you getting, good old bourbon, nothing tampered with, nothing added, no experimentation.
I got annoyed with bourbon being hard to find/markups and started drinking scotch. Found I liked scotch better until I got into the barrel proof stuff like JD & 1792. Both great and I like to have an Ardbeg to get that experience when I can to go along with them.
Elijah craig barrel proof has been my bourbon of the year. Although three different batches, I've never been disappointed. In my personal opinion, it's available, less than a hundred bucks, and it outclasses a lot of hyped up bourbon.
Being primarily a scotch drinker, when I have bourbon, I prefer to have the single barrel or barrel proof ones. Solid choices with Elijah Craig BP, 1792 FP. I’d also recommend makers cask strength and knob creek single barrel. If you have rarebreed I’d say skip Russell’s reserve single barrel. Surprised you didn’t have Bookers on here. Solid list man. Cheers!
Agree on most of them . Surprised that rare breed is in ur least favourite , rare breed is in top 10 barrel proof on my list. Any 1792 is on middle for me . Blanton’s is overhyped though blanton’s straight from barrel is as good as GTS the price is ridiculous . Stagg jr price skyrocketing which is disgusting . Ecbp is always my favourite barrel proof always available easily my top 3 . Weller 107 at msrp is great , makers barrel proof and larceny are in middle may be bcoz of their lower age where maturity really effects the taste . tried JD barrel proof and it surprised me its one of my top 5 barrel proof whiskey as well . Nice video 👍🏼
The problem w/ Blanton's gold is that it's 5% more ABV than regular Blanton's (other than that, it's the same thing) but the price is double. That's a ripoff.
Got the Joseph Magnus for New Years- you are one of the few who reviewed it(helped my decision). Although not my Favorite it is so unique I found myself liking it more and more. Thanks ...I’m so glad I added this to my bourbon cabinet!!
I tried Elijah Craig on Christmas Eve along with Four Roses Small Batch and Whistlepig and I thought Elijah Craig was the clear winner. Smooth and just a great all around bourbon.

After starting my bourbon “journey” my daily sipper soon became WT 101 and I was excited when I got Rare Breed but was super disappointed and will not buy again.

Great review ! Kc sb @120 proof , I think should be there tho. I agree the rare breed is better than 101 but not worth the extra money .( 25 extra in Ontario ) Also Elijah Craig Barrel proof was a lottery win at 142.50... So good luck and ouch... LOL
I appreciate the video. Nice to see Remus reserve getting props as it’s one of my favorites. I love the Larceny BP but only have the B& C batch. I hear the A batch is very different. Still have not had ECBP that was not excellent! Thanks
Nice list! Mostly easy to find. I think 60%+ is just a different thing than 40-46. Different way of drinking a neat pour. Turkey should amp up the Rare Breed. JDSBBP does stand out, mine is 66% and blah blah blah, you do a great job mansplaining. Price does matter. I just balked at $79 for JDSBBP Rye. Ready to pay but shocked at the price with tax. Actually bought a more expensive scotch but the RYE...is it worth a $15-20 premium????
Elijah Craig Small Batch and the Evan Williams bourbons are the same mash bill, same char barrels and from the same distillery. So the difference has to be age and maybe barrel selection? Yes, that's a question; I don't know.
I have discoverd your channel this year, last month i guess, and i am learnig a lot and enyoing all your reviews. Sadly, the great amazing Bourbon, hardly ever get here in Brazil; but, iti is still possible to find some good and very good Bourbons. Excellent video. Thanks and have a great 2021!!!
Great episode and I really liked your list!! I've been teetering back and forth on the Jos Mag for quite some time and haven't pulled the trigger based on price. You're the 2nd person in as many days that had it on the top of their list, so I'm heading out to get it....and make it my New Year's Eve pour with some good friends. Happy New Year!!
I have had many bourbons, and I found 1792 small batch to be at the very bottom of the bourbons I've tried. I didn't really enjoy it at all. I found it too bland. I had really high hopes of it reading all the reviews for it. I chose 1792 over Elijah Craig, 2 whiskeys I have not tried. I should have stuck with my gut and gone for the Elijah Craig. 1792 has a really nice bottle though. It's probably the reason I picked it.
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Nah, this is the first time I watch this video so it had no influence whatsoever. I'm still not counting the full proof version out though. I'm curious about that one and some of the ones you listed since I want to try them all to see if there is one that really stands out and that will actually be my new favorite. Great video btw
rossville repeal reserve? Ha ha got a bit confused there . The top 3 are good but but none i would have pick as top bourbons of the year .doesn't mean your wrong it's your list and your personal preference so obviously it's just a matter of personal preference.
Yea, I knew this list would be a bit contentious. I had to reassure myself that being truthful was better than just putting out what people expected. The 100 I felt was disappointing whereas the 86 was exactly what I expected. Thats why it was slightly higher. As for the top 3, of the ones I had in this video, what would your top 3 be?
Seems like in your case full proof equals fool proof XD Not surprising at all that in US, where it's produced, you can find almost any bourbon for almost MSRP. In EU your choices would've been very different, because there's like only 10% of what you have is available and every bottle is almost twice the price, which in most cases makes it hard to like and justify the price over way more affordable fine scotch :)
That is one interesting list! No judgment, i know taste is subjective, but nowhere close to my list. That said i have olny had about half of those... you seem to like the MGP blends a good bit! Saw the blantons gold once for 300 so that was a easy pass. Cant quite bring myslef to buy the remus or magnus for some reason..actually all those 100ish mgp blends are a hard sell for me.
Ive found myself preferring scotch whisky over Bourbon whiskey. I've been sipping on Oban 14 over the holidays and when I go back to a Bourbon I'm finding it too sweet. 2020 has been the year where I've really appreciated peaty whiskey's, I've been on the lookout for ardbeg around here....can't find it 👎

100 BUCKS? You are WAY OFF on the price tag for that Blanton's Gold. The SRP might be 120 USD, but you would be lucky to find a bottle under 300 USD and closer to 400 USD.
There's a difference in flavor for me. Also. I didnt say I wouldn't drink the 100, simply put the 86 above the 100 because I didn't think the price increase was worth it for the extra 7%
I'm very surprised that you picked Jack Daniels as #2. From my experience, the first half of the palate was good but the back half was lacking. Maybe I got a bad batch but definitely not as good as the reviews would suggest.
