What really gets me about this song is when Eponine says "I've come home from so far". She's finally in the place where she's been dreaming of for so long, and Marius is telling her to hush, and "I will stay with you until you are sleeping". He doesn't understand how she feels. He is trying to make her comfortable in her death, but nothing else. At the start, Eponine almost shrugs off him when he says "but you will live 'ponine" by saying "just hold me now and let it be". It's like Marius was trying to reassure her that he loves her while she is dying, but she just shrugs it off because she doesn't want him to lie to her. It's such a heartbreaking scene, so much better in the musical when portrayed by Samantha, but her and Eddie do a marvellous job in the film and still manage to bring me to tears

Often when someone is seriously injured, there is a period where they don't feel any pain. It's mercy. She is at peace because she is finally sheltered in someone's arms. And she gets the heroes reward for doing the honorable thing.
I watched the movie, and only 2 scenes made me cry. one was "To love another person is to see the face of God", the other was this song. I'm man enough to admit that this song gets to me, even when seeing the movie for a second time
its sad to think all these years she wanted marius to hold her and love her and then the only time he does is her death..... its just heartbreaking :'( :'( :'(
