    Seeing a ton of comments about the “poor writing” without anything to support why. If your upset with the writing, we’d love to hear why. Could be a good topic of discussion.

    • @JDY-11
      @JDY-11 5 лет назад +466

      I think this is how it was always meant to go down with Dany, but her journey to becoming 'mad' doesn't seem justified and feels rushed. This is meant to be the woman who has spent seven seasons freeing slaves where ever she goes, but instead of flying to the Red Keep and just burning Cersei (totally what I thought she was going to do) she just decides to burn all those innocent people? For what reason?
      I think it's purely D&Ds fault for insisting on only 6 episodes. HBO wanted more but they were adamant on only six for whatever reason. We needed to see her journey to becoming more and more dark not just burning loads of innocent people because of 'lol shes mad'.

    • @thorkagemob1297
      @thorkagemob1297 5 лет назад +320

      Do you believe the things that happened to her warrant that big of a change in that moment? Remember when she locked up her Dragons for killing 1 kid? Now she doesnt just have collateral damage and citizens die in the battle. She actively seeks out surrendering, running away, innocent people and children. Seriously? I dont see it at all. I understand that there is definitely a plot line of her having a descent to being the Mad Queen but this is extremely rushed and is honestly just so disappointing. The writing the last 2 seasons have just been so below everything else. Everything feels rushed. Like we are missing episodes with character development. And Jon is literally a side character now. Arya is now the main character. And I love her. But come on. I could talk about a lot.

    All of Dany's friends and advisors, the people who would normally be capable of changing her mind, are gone. Barristan is dead. Jorah is dead. Missandei is dead. Greyworm is in revenge mode because of Missandei being dead. Varys betrayed her and is now dead. Daario is keeping the seat warm in Essos. Tyrion has fucked up too many times for her to trust his advice.
    This kind of "rain indiscriminate hellfire upon my enemies" reaction has always been Danaerys' natural inclination. But until now, it had mostly been kept in check by her advisors.
    If Jorah were here, things might have turned out differently.

      So from a strategic standpoint it makes perfect sense to instill fear in both your allies and your enemies. You can't rule with no love from any of the people. Usurpers would start plotting against you day 1. They would smile at you while plotting to overthrow you behind your back. You need the iron hand on the iron throne if your dynasty is going to change the world.

    Daenerys wasn't triggered by the bells. She decided this after she executed Varys and didn't shared her plan to anyone. When she was talking to Jon after, she kissed him because she thought maybe they can rule together. But he rejected her and then she says "alright, then all I have is fear". At this point she felt betrayed by Varys, Sansa, Jon and also she was jealous of Jon's position in eyes of common people. I wish they've showed much longer path of Daenerys going mad though. Directors of this show sucks. HBO offered them to shoot one more season, but they refused to switched to some other project. And now we have this 6 episodes of speed run.

    Question: My biggest problem of the season was how they resolved the bran/NK storyline. Initially after seeing episode three, I thought the only plot purpose of the NK was to weaken danerys's army so the last fight w/ cersei would be fair, and that was a huge disappointment. But even that turned out to be false, the fight wasn't fair at all. So what exactly was the purpose of the NK? The WW's were the first scene in the first episode, and were referred to throughout the entire show as some unstoppable force. Yet they did nothing to impact the story except kill off some side characters. Also, what was the purpose of Bran? He's supposed to be the most powerful being in the universe and his only purpose seemed to be an exposition machine on wheels. I was still holding out hope that he would do something cool this episode but it looks like his story really is over.

      You know, I read a lot of fantasy novel. And always we know the end, the grey characters will die, the evil characters will die. Here, the hero is not the hero, the new hero is not able to save the city. Bran is just a child with the knowledge of the world without knowing what to do with it. Jon cannot accept he is the rightful king because he is still the bastard in his head. Sansa learns to play cards with everyone, except the right person. Arya is the assassin with a big heart but losing her focus on what is important. Danyeris is a girl searching love and not finding it. Jaime is persecuted by his father and sister, but need their approval. Tyrion found a purpose to live with the task of the defense of King's Landing but lost it with the perfidy of his lover, after Shea he was never the same. Cercei try to be accepted by her father by doing unbelievable things but failed it. Add the magic, the dragon. This is the best because still one episode left and we do not know what will happen.

      @@FirdausMTB Sansa went from one of my least favorite character to one of my top ones. Cersei's snide wit, Littlefinger's cunning, Ned's devotion to the north, Cat's devotion to her family. Fortitude to stand firm from overcoming Ramsy. She took the best the people around her had to build from and now I want to see her on the throne in the end.
      Assumption: Jon kills Dany to end her mad tyranny, then refuses the throne out of weariness and sorrow. Who comes into the throne? I have two ideas, and both involve Sansa in power in the North, at least. These are fanciful predictions and wishful thinking; I assume there are swiss-cheese-like holes in them.
      1) Due to Cersei having been a rightful ruler, and Jon and Dany being out of the picture in this scenario, would the Lannister line be considered the line of succession? If so, Tyrion could be king. He could wed Sansa, and with her as queen, the next generation would have claim to the North in a way the northmen could accept. Problem- Tyrion is not beloved of the people and he was the hand of the queen that burned down KL. Might raise a few issues...
      2) Forget the Lannisters! With the last Targaryens out of the way, it's next Beratheon up. Dany may have gone nuts, but the men of the north witnessed her make Gendry legit prior to her fall. Make him king and he wouldn't fight the northerners' desire to be independent, leaving Lady Stark as the ruler in the north. If Arya decides that she might not be a Lady, but she doesn't want to end up like the Hound either, she might decide that being with Gendry is worth it- after all, when she's queen, who's going to tell her how to act, anyway? North and south united in marriage and a king with ties to and sympathies for the common folk is on the throne (Davos as Hand? Fleabottom represent!)
      Any other moderately non-disastrous end seems to me to put Sansa in control in the north. I'm fine with that.

    "Poor writing" because it is. Why is Brandon Stark all the sudden supremely useless. Why build him up for 7 seasons, only to have him do literally nothing more than AFK? What is his purpose? Why would Dany burn the entire city to the ground, after spending years upon years investing time, money, and preparation to take it, and rule it, only to burn the entire thing to the ground, and make literally EVERYONE turn against her and her dragon? Why would, in episode 3, they send all the women and children to the crypts, knowing full-well the Night King RESURRECTS CORPSES to fight for his army? Why was the Night King built up for 7 seasons, to die in a single episode? Why did the Night King persue Bran at all? He didn't show that he had some immense power or anything of the sort. What WAS Bran doing, when the Night King was killing everyone? Why wasn't he using the crows to scout the location of the King to Dany and Jon or something, literally anything? How did Unsullied and Dothraki die by the thousands to the wights, while Samwell Tarly had supreme plot armor on and was laying on a wall of corpses, and when the NK rez'ed them he is somehow still alive? How the fuck did Dany not suspect or rather, even see the Iron Fleet when Rhaegal died? She literally can see the farthest of any person, being half a mile into the sky. How the f was Euron accurate as hell with the shot to Rhaegal, when it was his first shot, from extremely far away? I can go on, and on, and on, pointing out SHITTY writing for this season, but you guys already see this shit. This entire season is basically D&D seeing some super fan figure out the ending, and now they want to "surprise" us, by changing everything, because people saw through their foreshadowing, and now literally nothing makes sense. Why bother to show Nymeria's wolf pack if your not going to bother to use it at all. Why mention that Ghost would have a lot of screen time this season, and then completely lie about it? Why at the end of a recap did one of the producers mention that Dany "forgot" about the Iron Fleet after she spent several episodes and seasons being very concerned about the Iron Fleet. Where the F is Yara, sitting on the Iron Islands? There is so much bullshit with this last season it's incredible.

      Oh look, more shitty writing in the last episode. Tyrion tells Jon, go kill Dany so she won't be queen, you can choose to be king. He's a prisoner of treason, but gets to decide suddenly who is the next King. The person he selects, is Bran, who on MULTIPLE OCCASIONS declined LORD of Winterfell, but didn't turn down KING because of his 3-eyed raven bs. Sooooo many inconsistencies. So much disappointment. Also just to say it, D&D were offered an additional TWO MORE SEASONS to write Game of Thrones, as it did so well. They declined, in pursuit of.... fucking star wars... Not that I hate star wars, just "new" star wars. Disney crap. They literally rushed and spoon fed us this bullshit, so they could move on.

      Honestly I think Bran was playing a much bigger game. He was playing the game of throne without anyone really noticing. Those raven he send during the battle with the ww? If you look closely right before Dany turns mad you can see a bunch of raven arriving at the red keep making Dany believe those were send from Varys spilling the secret that she isn't the rightful heir to the throne. But Varys never got to send those raven. So who sent out that many raven at once? It was Bran. Knowing that this would be the last push for Dany to turn mad and leaving her in her eyes no other choice but burning the whole city so nobody would know her secret, making him king in the end. He planned it. And that explains Brans quote towards the end which seemed very random.

    There are a lot of upset reactors/Dany fans out there today. I know because I have watched most of them. The one thing that came to my mind in watching this episode is that, throughout the course of the series, Daenerys has had the best of intentions but has relied on her advisers to keep her worst instincts in check. Now that half her advisers are dead and she does not trust Jon or Tyrion anymore she no longer has anyone to balance things out. I think when the Bells rang she just thought to herself that she had not made them pay enough for what they had taken from her. That by surrendering, Cersei and the city were depriving her of the vengeance she was determined to inflict on them.
    And I know you have been saying Jon needs to take her out but I say look out for Arya. It is hard for me to believe that she will be able to let go of what she saw happening inside those walls.

      because no human is truly evil. You can't just "snapped" without any other factors that contributed to it. Yes Dany has lost her BFF, dragons & advisers and were legit reasons for her to go insane but the fault is the way they framed that into the narrative. We all expected she would go into Mad Queen route but not at this rushed pace. All 7 seasons Dany has been the "breaker of chains". She killed her enemies & not innocents. The writers rushed this development just to advance the plot and left us hanging with no explanation of why she suddenly decided to massacre half the population. They could've moved the dragon killing from last episode to this episode and that would've made much more sense

Idk why ppl feel that Jon Snow should be king just bc he is male. So where are equal rights now. Hotd happened before GOT so it means queens could lead. The same way ppl ship for Rhaenyra they should have been on Dany's side . She was Queen material unlike Jon Snow who was obviously a follower. He could lead but he still always needed guidance from a greater powerful figure. That was clear for everyone to see. Even Varys said she was too strong for him. Ppl just wanted Dany to submit to Jon which would have been stupid and completely idiotic for her character. We all followed her from season 1 with hopes she would finally ascend the Iron Throne. It was always the endgame for her but suddenly bc some characters have been grown a little bit, ppl have forgotten and picked favorites. Even f*cking Cersei is suddenly celebrated and mourned just bc she died while pregnant forgetting what an awful horrible human being she was. What about her war crimes? All forgotten. What happened here was a common case of victim mentality. Suddenly it doesn't matter how many ppl Dany and her dragons saved. Which is basically everyone in the world. It's about her reaction over being betrayed by literally everyone she had remained with after everyone that really loved her was dead. Having said that, I don't really think Jon Snow ever loved Dany. He just loved the idea of her. When things got a little bit sticky he was always ready to betray her. I say burn em all Queen Daenerys of House Targaryen. First of her name. Queen of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First men. Rightful heir to the Iron Throne. Protector of the realm. Mother of dragons and breaker of chains !!🔥

    I think the not eating was because she knew she had a traitor in her camp. I think Varys was trying to poison her, then she felt everyone betrayed her and the bells tolling was a reminder that Tyrion kept saying if you hear the bells toll call off the fight. Maybe Dany thought that Tyrion made some deal with Cersei and felt she couldn’t trust Tyrion or the plan. The show is going to make us have to choose between these two beloved characters Jon and Dany . We have been cheering these two on from the beginning. And now we will have to choose. 😩

      The wheel are all noble houses, the political system itself. So she didn't destroy anything really. She would if she took over and then slowly stripped them of power consolidating it for herself through reforms and then eventually stepped down, if the new order was established and stable [could be some elective form of governance, or a council of elders, like she did in Slaver's Bay].
      If anything, she fractured the wheel into many small wheels. With the capitol burned, it's likely that after she's dead [and she's just made enough enemies to be as good as dead] Westeros will devolve back into smaller warring kingdoms with their own internal conflicts reignited as well.

      @Eru Ilúvatar When has she not been? Her stance has always been that the people will have freedom, provided it is the freedom supplied by her and under her rule. Those that disagree will burn.
      Allow me to describe a scene: The monarch stands before the lord that challenged their rule- and failed in that challenge. Mercy has been advised by one of the monarch's most respected counselors. That counselor learned at the foot of their father, Tywin Lannister. Tywin never held to mercy for its own stake. On the rare occasions he used it, it was for control. This was no soft-hearted plea, but a rational view of how the monarch could strengthen their own position. But the monarch rejects the advice. They give a self-serving proclamation that their actions are in support of justice, and give the order to their favorite executioner to kill the lord.
      Is this Joffrey executing Ned Stark, or Dany executing Lord Tarly? In one case we hate the monarch and love the lord, in the other we love the monarch and hate the lord. But both find it easy to execute those that defy them. Both monarchs even have their sanity cast into doubt due to being the result of incestuous parentage. The only thing keeping Dany in the dubious role of Benevolent Tyrant was being loved. When that went away, she became just a tyrant. And I've been expecting it for most of the series. I felt that once she realized Westeros didn't think of her as their "Mhysa," they'd awaken the dragon.
      A Targaryan alone in the world is a terrible thing. As in "terrible: likely to cause terror."

Danaerys Targaryen, who locked up her dragons when Drogon possibly burned one child, would not have done this. D&D completely character assassinated her, this wasn't earned at all. Two episodes ago Dany waa fighting for the survival of mankind, now she's committing mass murder? No, not my Danaerys Targaryen.

    She has accepted that she can't inspire loyalty from her own people. Not like how Jon can. That and the fact that her claim to the Throne isn't as strong as Jon's and everyone is slowly turning towards Jon as the King. Her control is slipping and if her closest advisers start turning on her then everyone else will too eventually. Which is why she decided on fear. And what better way to instill fear than melting an entire capital down in minutes. Funny how the power you root for at the beginning of the episode is the same power you revile by the end of it.

    And this is why I love this show.. because In last weeks episode after Rheagal and Missendie death , we were ALL saying burn it down. And even at the beginning of this fight we are cheering her on! Yeah! Take that! And with one turn of a moment we are seeing all this horror unfold in front of us , in disbelief. This is the realities of war, when the hero’s can become the bad guy, when someone has been pushed to the point of no return. How do we know where that line is ? How do we push someone just enough to make them go to war , but be able to pull them back from crossing that line. It is such a wide gray space. I think these nuances of the show get so over looked and are the most underrated parts of the show. They get lost on most fans over plots and story arcs or what we as fan think should happen then we get upset when it didn’t go like we want. People start yelling the show sucks or bad writing . When in reality they are truly missing the best of the show. Which is how it can take from routing burn it down , to omg she is burning it down!
