    typically most power lines by the road are 7200v... (typically). Those cutout fuses are loud when they blow. One night the power went out, came back on 30 seconds later, then I heard a massive BOOM, like someone was shooting a shotgun. I think a power malfunction happened, The safety caught it, and blew the fuse to prevent any more damage. I think it was like 4 blocks down, But sounded like it was right outside. Cool video.

    When the flames reach clear across the limb it creates a ionized path.
    Ionized air has low resistance and conducts enough current to blow the fuse.

    I dunno why, but I laughed my ass off when that thing finally blew.

    This happened near my house the other day, but with a whole tree and really high power lines...there's no more tree there...just a bunch of splintered wood

    Ouch!!!!! Sounds like the branch did a good job of shorting out the circuit and blowing the fuse feeding this part of the circuit.

    Tree branch fell across a couple of the phases, and since wood is not a good conductor the branch heats up and starts on fire. Once the fire reaches all the way across it causes the conditions to be right for the power to ionize the air and jump across. But I didn't see any "explosion". Thats my take on it.

    cutout fuse blows, sounds like a shotgun. Its LOUD!. just the lines safetys working as they should when they detect a overcurrent fault.

  • @aussiespoon2471
    @aussiespoon2471 11 лет назад

    The fuse was probably a relay that sensed the problem and then annoyed people that thought the power being out is the power companies fault .Trees Bastards!!

    that branch tress is burning because the protection device of the system is not working.. because of it, the electrical current keeps flowing and burning that branch

    No way that's only 7500 volts. I cut trees around powerlines, that's at least 33000

    • @bamaslamma1003
      @bamaslamma1003 4 года назад

      The "explosion" was the upstream fuses blowing. No more power. No more noise. This looked like a phase to phase fault. When it arced over, the fuses blew.

    why would the tree explode lol

    • @AndrewChumKaser
      @AndrewChumKaser 7 лет назад +8

      I'm no scientist or electrician, but my best guess is this:
      When 7500 Volts travel through the branch, the water inside of the tree's bark heats up. A lot. That steam is trapped inside the branch and can sometimes colgate into a pocket inside of the branch. Once the pressure is too much for the branch to handle, pop.

      It becomes more and more conductive over the time. When the resistance is low enough the electricity can flow through the carbonised wood causing a short between the two lines.
