      The sad thing is that many, many people actually fall for this crap.

    • @Dowlphin
      @Dowlphin 5 лет назад +342

      It could be that this was not meant to refer to Microsoft themselves, but a sub firm that provides a special service. (I didn't follow every word of the video though.)

    • @rars0n
      @rars0n 5 лет назад +249

      @@Dowlphin They were doing the "Microsoft Security" scam. They don't claim to be Microsoft, they claim to provide security FOR Microsoft, so that they are associated with them. Regardless, it's such a dumb scam (remember, these people have ALREADY been scammed for the "security" in the first place and this is now a refund scam for that service, claiming that "we're shutting down") that nobody should ever fall for it in the first place. But because it's technology and people shut their brains off because they think they don't understand anything about it, they go along with the scam.
      It'd be kind of like someone just randomly calling a person saying "Hi, I'm the President of the United States and I'm going to give you a million dollars" and they actually believe it. There's no reason for a person to believe what someone randomly calling them over the phone is saying. But because it's about their computer, they shut their brain off and don't question it.
      When someone is telling you to go to your bank and make a transfer from your own account into theirs but not to tell the bank any of the details, and they're speaking in broken English in what is obviously a call center, that should be an immediate red flag that this transaction is not legitimate. Same with going to the store and buying iTunes gift cards or whatever. This doesn't take a single ounce of computer knowledge to figure out, this is just common sense.

    • @Dowlphin
      @Dowlphin 5 лет назад +21

      @Adam Baldwin - Yes, those scammers basically make use of the structures that have been laid out by society's manipulators, by the really big crooks. Rotten politicians control people through fear, and that then is pretty much comparable to private hackers using an NSA backdoor. - The rich and fearful attempt to shape the world to match their mind so that they feel less bad about themselves. Enlightening contrast is painful to them.
      There is a lot more (suppressed) self-awareness in these things than people think.

    Being an Indian this is hard as well as embarrassing to watch. But this is a very real part of IT sector in India. My cousin brother once unknowingly interviewed for this job. Once he knew what was up he refused the offer.
    I remember him explaining it to me what other things happened there; his accent was checked, good and proper accent is crucial. Learning a script, it's like having a completely different identity on the job. Mock calling during the interview etc.
    The main reason most of the youth end doing these kind of job is because the pay is really good (at least for the Indian standards).
    I think the western media should bring this issue into light, so more people become aware about this situation and don't fall prey to such scams.

Similarly to the Nigerian prince scams, where the email contains grammatical errors the scammer wants to see if the victim is naive enough to pass all that by and still make the call. In summary, if they bought that Microsoft is going under, changes are that they will buy that they have to pay more money to get a refund. It's a weeding out process.
