Hi Scott. I've made a habit of making a 'Search Helpers' folder and dropping it in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Search Helpers. To make Start-Search more efficient for me, but Windows 10 update has caused problems.
In there I add 4 flavors of shortcuts in this folder.
    a) App short cuts with shorter names than standard, so I can type faster (i.e. 'VS2015', then just typing 'VS' in Start-Search pulls that instead of having to type 'Visual Studio...').
    b) Favorite folder shortcuts in the format of 'go*' where * is name. i.e. goRSApp1 would go to default folder on my Rackspace Application Server #1. These shortcuts actually run a *.vbs script passing in desired folder location...probably better way to do it, but it works.
    c) Remote Desktop shortcuts in the format of 'r*' where * is server. i.e. rRSApp1 would open RDP to Rackspace Application Server #1.
    d) Common URL shortcuts that I always hit (I just drag shortcut icon from browser address bar into the folder and name it to a short/quick name that I can use).
My problems with Start-Search are the following items are no longer 'found':
    1) No longer allows me to type r* shortcuts for RDP
    2) A 'handful' of the application shortcuts do not work (although some still do, can't figure out pattern of why some would work and some wouldn't)
    3) URL short cuts are never found
    4) A benefit I accidentally discovered in Win 8.1 is I could do 'first letter' searches, so with a shortcut of 'Data Updater', I could type 'D U' and it would find that. That no longer works.
Any ideas on how to fix this and/or a support forum that I could direct question to? I might try StackOverflow but not sure appropriate forum.

i wasnt even looking for this video but i had full intentions on looking into exactly this later haha. lifes funny.
i just discovered the shorcut to control panel the other day, and it saves me so much time switching back and forth between headphones and tv sound.
For once a youtube "you may also like" auto-play actually took me to a video that i wanted to watch.
thank you so much. video saved to favorites. it will take a few views to remember all this

It was pretty nice of Microsoft to hire you Scott after you basically publically criticised unfairly the Windows team's work in your last W10 video. Also are you going to do a similar video for Windows 10?

Huh? Having an opinion isn't "unfairly criticizing." And these videos are just something I do on the side for fun.

Scott Hanselman You described the previous icon set as "amateurish" when the Windows team already delivered an updated set of icons, in my book that is unfair criticism. I'm sure you wouldn't like your colleagues at Microsoft to get a hold of an early draft of one of your books and then publicly call you out on one of the mistakes in the draft when you already fixed it in your final copy of the book. Everyone has a right to an opinion but the platform and the nature of the opinion was inappropriate given your position at a professional organisation such as Microsoft. Also the video is still up so I will assume that you still fully endorse what is said in that video. Apologies for calling you out on this but given the unfair crap the media writes about the Windows team's work all the time its a little bit disappointing some of that comes within their own organisation.

elmar001 If you look at Scott's RUclips channel, you'll see that Scott's been doing a thorough review of every major build of Windows 10 that has been released. The videos are snapshots at a given time and at the time of that release (and Scott's review of it), what he said was 100% accurate.
The whole point of these preview builds are for public review and feedback. It's not to offend the Windows Team but to share his *own* sentiments about the product. And those ugly icons had to go and I'm glad that people spoke up. And now it's gone.
With unfiltered/unbiased voices like Scott's, we'll have a solid product in Windows 10.
P.S. It's unfair that you are criticizing Scott on a Windows 10 review that he did on a totally unrelated video!

Thomson Vaidyan Please re-read my comment, you haven't really understood my point.

elmar001 Ok, let me dissect your comment, point-by-point:
*You said*: You described the previous icon set as "amateurish" when the Windows team already delivered an updated set of icons, in my book that is unfair criticism. I'm sure you wouldn't like your colleagues at Microsoft to get a hold of an early draft of one of your books and then publicly call you out on one of the mistakes in the draft when you already fixed it in your final copy of the book.
*My response*: The video review was on Windows 10 Build #10122, specifically. And in that build the icons were horrible; so the comment was justified/warranted/accurate. And if someone was doing a review of an early draft of a book and there were problems in that particular version, those comments would be justified as well.
*You said*: Everyone has a right to an opinion but the platform and the nature of the opinion was inappropriate given your position at a professional organisation such as Microsoft.
*My Response*: If Microsoft is going to release a "public" release and ask for public feedback, they should expect both positive and negative feedback. And that's exactly what they got.
*You said*: Also the video is still up so I will assume that you still fully endorse what is said in that video.
*My response*: Yes, I'd imagine so. The title and the video content clearly states that the review is about Windows 10 Build # 10122.
*You said*: Apologies for calling you out on this but given the unfair crap the media writes about the Windows team's work all the time its a little bit disappointing some of that comes within their own organisation.
*My response*: And my apologies to you +elmar001 for calling you out - this video is about Windows 8 hot-keys... why are you picking a fight about another video here?
So, please explain how I misunderstood your comment. Thanks.
