Thank you for another outstanding review. I have the 7 Artisans 10mm/2.8, which is not rectilinear, but the video, at 178 degrees, makes me feel nauseated - literally! It really messes with my mind. Based on this video, I'll have a look at the Brightin Star 9mm though, as I do like to photograph/video architecture.

Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed the video and found it useful.
178 degrees?? Wow! That’s insane and yeah I could imagine it makes you feel nauseous lol. Sounds to me the Brightin star will be a good fit for you :)

@@Markchristiankc , 7 Artisans have now released a mark II version of this lens, claiming that the FOV is 185 degrees!

Nice video! My city is somewhat similar to where you live (except sunny days are quite regular here). Did you shoot the whole video with the Lumix S5II/S5IIX? I've heard it has the best stabilization on the market, and I'm considering switching to it. My main ultra-wide lens is the Laowa 9mm f/2.8, which is equivalent to 13.5mm on full-frame. It's definitely not perfect, but I notice less "wobble" effect. On the other hand, it has quite strong vignetting, and the image quality is just okay. I'm not sure if that's due to the Laowa itself or just because it's an ultra-wide lens characteristic (next one in lineup I have 16-80 kit lens), but I feel like I get less dynamic range with it than with my kit lens and primes 23mm, 50mm.
Also red fringing in some shots (small amount of halation) is character of your testing lens or its added in post?

Thank you! The halation is 100% me haha I just like it so I add it to all my footage :)
For this video I shot with both the S5ii and the S9. I think the ibis wobble was pretty even across the two but the shots where it was worse were with the S9. Their IBIS is still best in class but it’s just because the lens is so wide it’s just going to happen. I’d really recommend the S9 or S5ii they’re so good 😊
Interesting about your lens! I’m not sure why there’s a quality difference. It could just be the lens though as you said. Is it an APS-C lens?

@@Markchristiankc Yes, I have APS-C version Laowa 9mm f2.8 for X-mount (Fuji). Fujinon lenses (but narrower) have better colour reproduction overall but I guess maybe its nature of ultra wide lens. Also Laowa tends to shift slightly more to magenta.

I use the 7Artisans 9mm f5.6 which is great for photography. I don’t use it for video. Sadly it lacks the rear filter mount of the Brightin Star

Yeah it’s a cool idea I just wish they had more range in ND filters
